Thread: AFK entertainers are killing me!

*Showers the blood off of himself*

OWW! Dang violent attack, haha I didnt say that it was the ultimate perfect scenario. The main thing I advocated was the nullification of activity in "AFK" mode. I only tried to press that that was an imperfect solution, and even more drastic measures would be necessary. And, I would be more than in favor of loosing my song macros if it meant that we would loose AFKers forever.

Remember there are very few perfect cases in the world, anyone else who tells you otherwise is selling something.

Now, if anyone else can help develop ideas that are superior to mine own, feel free! Just be aware, that flaming an idea without support does nothing to resolve an issue.

Perhaps I over reacted and I apologize. It just that I remember losing the ability to use recursive aliases which stunk. I don't remember what big problem it was supposed to stop, but it could not have been too important as you can do practically the same thing with /ui action toolbarSlot which is still in the game.
You are just now limited to 24 actions which can call each other and themselves. It's just a chore as I have to clutter up a toolbar and macro page with them.

I don't know. maybe the game was so new back then and entertainers seemed so special. But the newness has worn off now. Plus, the slow trickle of non-PvP content hasn't helped any.The movies were like that too. How many cantina scenes were there compared to fight scenes?

Guess we could start by describing the situation:

1. Not a lot of active entertainers left

2. Entertainers are scattered across the galaxy

3. Same-ol'-same-ol' songs and dances

4. Experience gain is fairly rapid

...What's the point? What are the oddswe will see any radical changes? *thinks about the CU* Let me take that back. Guess I will need to think.

The elephant in the room is that the devs were quite happy with AFK'ing - but when the complaints against it got too much to ignore, they took action. Oh, they acted alright... they took us out of the game economy. We ALL became rather unnecessary.

The thinking is this: remove afk entertainers... and the combat players (majority of players) would be left without healing and buffs. At least from the devs stand point - they felt it would be true. So, they removed the mind wounds and buffing powers.... we certainly can't have the game ruined for the majority players JUST to make the enterainer forum complainers happy.

Now, we are left with nothing. Whlie afking was a problem... the solution is worse than the disease. So, PLEASE stop complaining about how OTHER players play the game - before we loose something else.

Suggestion... focus on YOUR skills and how to make YOUR game better.. not on nerfing someone else's gameplay.

Yes go to a vendor and buy an auto-musician. Make entertaining a crafting profession. WOOHOO!! Nobody became an entertainer to craft, they did it to interact with people. How do you think being able to craft replacements for ourselves would be a good thing in our eyes?

________________________________________________________________________________________

Just for the record, I have no problem finding a buff and have offered suggestions to other crafters. But the reverse is also true. If crafters wanted to hang out in cantina's waiting for musicians to "Play" with they would have become entertainers. Crafters have been pretty beat up too and we do not see any of the other professions coming to our aid. We already have a ton of time sinks we have to deal with from looking for resources, cloning, trying to empty harvesters, cloning, waiting for a part to finish because SOE decided that each one will take 80 seconds to complete and you need to make 20. Most took a very big hit with the CU and the fact that all of the best stuff in the game is now combat quest rewards is driving alot of us out of the business. If buffs require ATK, and I agree with that, it should be for ALL buffs. SOE will not do that because all combat types have the Force X Whine Tree completed. So, to throw you guys a bone, they beat up the crafters again. That is how it looks to alot of crafters. We are also on the bottom of the bug list. Pub 24 introduced a new one and we still do not know if it is a bug or a nerf yet. Like Musician, alot of use are disgusted. Yes, we can craft without the buff. I can also craft without the best resources but I only make the best or nothing at all. Most of us are not in this for the money. Why do you think we tip so generously? Because we appreciate your time and skills.

As vain and pathetic an attempt as it it, we REALLY do hope that the DEV's might actually read our posts one day. Maybe even one of them will actually take it in, and consider a change. That is why we continue to post. Who knows? The choices are endless, and each new choice chosen opens up all new choices.

So maybe we might find the perfect solution on day. Maybe the DEV's will even enact it. Who knows? Stanger has happened. I mean in a world where Sienfeld was the most popular show on TV, anything can happen.

I am driven in DESPERATION to put a post here and in the muscian and dancer forums.

PLEASE, the inability to find a crafting inspiration buff is driving me from this game. I was an original beta tester and I have never left this game. I have 3 toons, 2 crafters and 1 combat. I love the crafting aspects of the game and I have always been driven to make the very best when I do make something. The "very best" now requires an Inspiration buff from an entertainer.

The main two buffs I need are chef inspirations and artisan inspirations. I can't get these from AFK entertainers as you well know. Am I glad that some folks leave their toons in game AFK for combat xp buffs, etc..... certainly yes. Do I consider this problem YOUR fault as the entertainer? Certainly not. This is not an attack, simply voicing my concern and yes, trying to help offer a solution. Do the DEVS ever listen? Well,I have no idea. But as a long term player with a family in RL, etc.. I have certain times I can play this game. And when I do play I have a tight schedule to keep in order to make food and artisan items to keep stocked on my vendor. I don't consider spending hours searching for non-afk entertainers as "play"......it sucks frankly. And sure, during the rush play times there are plenty of folks to find....but I can't always play then. So we need access all the time.

My solution? Recordings. Plain and simple. Entertainers, Muscians, Dancers, could all craft a simple recording device that records your performance. These would be recorded for specific profession buffs. So lets take a Chef Inspiration. You would craft the recording tool. You would then select the buff you wanted to record and target this to your tool recording. After it is recorded the device would be labeled "Chef Inspiration Buff" with perhaps a duration of 3 hrs 20 min (length of the buff if I listen to the recording). These recorded devices could then be listed on the bazaar for sale to crafters.

Key Points:

1) Enterainers would be able to craft a recording device.

2) A complete crafter buff, profession specific, could be recorded by you the entertainer onto the device. This recording onto the device would not be possible AFK and it would take you the same length of time as giving a live player the inspiration.

3) The recording device would be available for sale on the bazaar or on player vendors.

4) Each device would include the entertainers name, the length of the recording to listen too, and finally the type & length of the inspiration buff you attain by listening to this device.

5) Finally, the crafter must focus on the devicewhen they are getting the buff for the FULL time of the normal inspiration.

6) To be fair the device sold has a one time/or limited uses

This would maintain the integrity of the current system while removing the issue of finding an entertainer. Same time committment on the entertainers part, same time committment on the crafters part (in terms of listening/watching), and a simple and easy way for entertainers to earn money even if they play at unique game times where others are not "looking" for a inspiration buff.

I hope this post makes sense. I am glad that entertainers are now needed in such a high capacity. I am just disappointed that it's nearly impossible to find someone during the less busy server play times. Particularly on some of the lower populated servers (of which I think mine is one of them!).

Thanks for your time.

Well, to sum it up, what we think is that we don't want to be replaced by automatons, be they player created AFK bots or dev created holorecordings.

Yes, it is a neat idea, but in no way enables us in our battle vs AFK. The problem is you would still have someone AFKing the profession, then on top of that, they would have a crafting factory making them even MORE money. Yes, it would enable the rest of us to have another source of income (which is what I think the post was originally for), but actually would further inhibit any hope that AFK playstyles would go by the wayside.

Judging by the lack of "entertainers" whenever I wanted to use their services, I guess the "interaction" isn't such a priority. Tsk, tsk, tsk, not nice to blow smoke .....

This shows such an inane lack of understanding about the root cause of the problem that I'm at a loss at how to answer it without a flamethrower.
