The reason you are wrong is simple Kuildeous... Medics. Medics are already under this same system and the things you fear justaren't happeningwith them.

The only thing that would happen is that in a crowded cantina people would be forced to ASK the entertainers with skill to heal them quickly instead of just leeching off of them. The only people who would be "missed" would be the people that didn't step up and asked to be healed. You could still give away free heals to anyone you wanted... You could still hope that people you heal will throw you a tip as an afterthought... Or you could ask them for a fee up front when they requested you heal them. Just like the medics.

The only negatives would be that you as an entertainer would be forced to actually target someone instead of just hitting your flourish or dance macro key while chatting.

I see it with medics all the time. People take up the medic novice because they can heal themselves. Only when they are really bad off do they consider taking a doctor up on his skills.

Medics have the ability to ask for money upfront. They still do not get receive as much money as they deserve. So why would this be any different for entertainers?

And making us choose people to target removes a huge element of fun in entertaining. The joy of entertaining is in performing and chatting with others, knowing that you're doing good for them. The joy of medicine is in helping others and crafting lovely tools that make others go ooh when you heal them for a hundred wounds. If I want to target people, I'd be a medic. As it is, I'm fine with people "leeching" off me, and I don't want any extra commands to go into this. If I have to target each person, then I chat less. If that happens, then entertainer becomes less of a social profession and more of a click-and-do profession. No thank you.

Pick-and-choose heals shouldn't even be considered. Introducing it will ruin the feel of the profession and the joy of those who enjoy entertaining. While it may be a good thing for those people who want to make money for little work (compared to marksman or medic), I don't think the game would benefit by applying this to the profession.

Remove the unique nature of entertainers, and we suddenly have to wonder why those skill points are spent on being an entertainer when we could just put it in medic instead.

You want to selectively heal, be a medic.

You want to have fun and be wonderful atmosphere, be an entertainer.

Love Star Wars, but the few role-players I could find on the servers were outnumbered by powergamers who wanted only l337 l00t and mad skillz. I can't justify paying $15 a month to play a game by myself.
Still cares enough to interject an opinion, though.

Fighters can't take a mission and go afk while gaining XP and credits, why should entertainers?

I will bet anyone on this board 1 million credits that I can show anyone how to accrue combat xp while afk. If I fail, I will pay you. However, since I won't fail, you have better have the credits on hand.

Wow, that is the most informative post I've seen.

Rather than throw out vague gambling boastings to prove a point, why don't you just prove the point by showing us.

I expect such circumlocution from politicians. I expect better from members of this forum. I know it's foolish of me, but call me an optimist.

I said I would show you if you were willing to lose the mill creds, I never said I condone or approve of people using the methods or that I want every person on this board to know. I won't tell people how to do it for free, cause then everyone will be doing it, and that is going to be blasted annoying. You want proof, make the bet, but I will warn you again, have the money in hand, because I'll be taking it from ya.

That being said, the afk problem is in almost every profession andis not just entertainers. Anyone that thinks that that has been changed and fixed is delusional. They have not fixed anything. The only way I see them fixing it is by removing it, which again I do not advocate because the macro system is very usefull overall and I think it outweighs the afk problem.

Just had to add a response to everyone who keeps listing the "fixing" of AFK sampling by SOE as a good example of eliminating a problem. AFK sampling is still very possible and still very easy. The pop-up will stop the simplest of macros (i.e. /sample followed by a long pause, sitting, pausing and hitting an Fkey or some variant). As of Sunday night, it has absolutely no effect on standing, sampling, sitting, pausing briefly until you can sample again, and looping those steps.

Anyways, I can see SOE addressing the AFK sampling as it is something that can have a distinct effect on the overall economy of materials andreduces the need for Harvesters, etc (though with the right effort, they are more effective anyways). This is something that needs to be addressed. I'm not so sure that Entertainer AFK macroing is worth the devtime right now.

Ahh...what the heck...might as well ramble on some more....

Maybe we should relax a bit on this, people that are AFK macroing their way to master won't be around long once they get there, as they will likely find the class incredibly dull. They tend to be the explorer types, they'll get to the top, see what the different dances are play withit abit, and then move on to something else that requires more work.

As things are now, I see this class petering out until the only people you find in the cantinas will be the truly dedicated social players who just like entertaining in itself. I really think this will be a problem eventually, as I am guessing that is a relatively small group of players, compared to the large group of combat oriented players that will want BF healed all over the server. Even now, there are whole cities everywhere with empty cantinas where people beg you to come heal their BF and mind wounds (hint: visit these cities). The game just doesn't have that much to offer to keep entertainers entertained (of course there will be the exceptional players putting on large shows and travelling in troupes to find entertainment for themselves, but they are a rarity overall).

BTW I have made two dancers, one that I raised to master without AFK macroing (along with Master Hairstylist...), and another that I exclusively AFK macroed to replace my first dancer (I migrated to combat skills so that I could fit in with my combat oriented RL friends already on that server). My first dancer was well-liked and I made many friends through my cantina times not to mention good times, many tips andtons of Apprentice Points). The same cannot be said for the second character (I think I may have received 1000 credits total in tips, and 500 of that was for the one time I was online and danced for someone on Talus). Now, do I feellike I have"earned" one of these dancers more than the other? Not really,"earning" is what I do at work to get apaycheck. Igot what I wanted in the game at the time, and judging by the time I spent in a hidden back room of the cantina and the tips I received, I don't believeI really cost anyone what they wanted from the game either.

AFK macroing I don't care.

Joke entertainer mission I do care.

Please ask them what is really annoying for musician profession and why people begin to think to give up music and not what the casual musicians speak a lot about.

With or without macroing, people should be master musician now if it was their primary goal. And what is really annoying IS not having money.

Mission pay better : much more reason to be behind your screen and entertaining than waiting for a tip which you can't be sure.

What I find really annoying is that once I reached MM, I had nothing better to do with music except what I was already doing. There were no more challenges really. =(
