Yup...

In the Moenia cantina on Naritus, there was an entertainer (I won't name her) who was AFK all the time (I never saw her not be AFK) and macro'ed about wanting tips every minute or two... Finally one of the entertainers got annoyed and requested that everyone e-mail her and ask her to cut it out.

Not only did she stop but I have not seen her in that cantina since. For some reason I have the feeling that rather than stop, she has taken her macro elsewhere, like to Theed or someplace like that, to continue with her AFK macroing... How sad.

On training: Having been one person who partially paid Mister Blue Elephant for the Music Fatigue Healing Tree, its always good to be appreciative to people who do tip you when you train them, but as a rule of thumb, I do not ask people for money to train them. If someone was downright rude at me and demanded training, its time to tell them to seek another or see Mister Blue Elephant for that 9k slot of Fat 4. Okay, so this really applies to Musician training, but the same principles apply. Manners goes a long way when it comes to seeking a trainer. The other thing to remember is to ask those around in large groups if anyone has the skill and needs the Apprentice Points.

Cantina manners: In doing the cantina crawl, its always a goal to spend long enough time in one place to make bus fare home. But its a goal, not a requirement. If I go to a large city that averages 20 person 'training groups' I don't really expect to make any tips, even if I am Master Musician. The dancers get those. =D However, if I am on an advanced planet, then well, it is a competitive environment and its a place I don't have to play or group with the lone Slitherhorn player stuck with StarWars1 (tho I might, if they are pleasant enough company). If they wanted to do music as a career, I'm not sure I consider Lok the best place to act as a training ground.

Manners in general: At least on Bria, the music community is a pretty good group of folks, and most have a good working relationship at the upper end. Some people may run the 'TIP ME' macro a bit too much for my taste, but I suppose it was an educational curve to the general populace that we all must endure. Hopefully it will simmer down as time goes on.

Cheers!

Well, I'll put my hat in the ring -

Personally, I believe that if you are trained without having asked, the person isn't likely expecting a tip - they are trying to help you out. If I'm not dancing when I invite someone to my group at Mos Espa on Tempest, I always chekc the Train to see if there's anything outside languages I can help them with - I also usually ask about Shyriiwook language if they don't have it cause some of our regulars are Wookies.

Now, as far as tipping for training you've asked for, I really can't say - I've taken a different tack on it. I let everyone know that I invite to join my group that I'm training for free as a patron of the arts and ask that any skill I teach them they pass on without expecting a fee. I spend a lot of time online, so I'm still the highest ranking in Dancing and EH on Mos Espa despite the fact that I run destroy missions to raise money for the group so I usually get a chance to train everyone at least once. Now that I've maxed my Apprentice XP I connect people to other members of the group with the skill when someone asks.

I think as Entertainers we are, by our very nature, the most closely knit profession in the game - after all, we group up in groups of just entertainers and so we got lots of opportunity to cross teach and share the costs of teaching. I'm always seeing people running around yelling for teaching of skills from other professions, often with no luck, but all the entertainer teaching requests have always shown up as group or tell messages. And I think it's that easy sharing of training costs we should appreciate. If someone mentions they need training to a skill level no one can offer, pool up the resources by tipping them until they've got what they need - no entertainer has yet refused to train the skills we help them get once their back from the trainer. It's through splitting the cost of training over 8 or 10 entertainers that we can subsist on tips.

I'm rambling about that now, so I'll repeat my usual rant: What's needed ar Patrons of the Arts - people who run missions enough to get extra cash and finance the artists. At Mos Espa on Tempest I've officially declared myself as one, but I've seen other unofficial ones. A cantina regular, Frosty, once came in and based on all the thank yous, and the tip I received, tipped each entertainer in the Cantina very well. I'm pretty sure he alone bought the group Musicianship I and possibly II as well.

So I ask, if anyone is reading this planning on starting an entertainer, consider being a patron - doesn't take much - Novice Marksman or Brawler, a 100 credits for your very base weapon (or start as the Marksman or Brawler) and then gain a little skill. On Tatooine with my Adv Carbine I can run Kreetles, Mynocks and Runa's with little difficulty and get 5000 credits in a matter of an hour or so - goes a long way to helping out the dancers and musicians back at the cantina where I then spend the rest of the evening.

OK, I'm going overlong, so I'm done.

Our group of entertainers at Mos Entha are a close group but very happy when new ppl join us. We train anyone for free and glad to do it. As for entertainers who ask ermm frequently for tips they soon find another cantina as we dont care for that. While we are not rude about their choice of behavior, they get tired of us fussing about how it makes us all as a group look bad.

I have always been tipped nicely and appreciative of tips I get no matter how small. I do tell the medics who heal me not to tip as its a mutual benefit..I can dance forever while they heal and they gain medic exp. Think its all a matter of finding your niche. On intrepid..we on tat love Mos Entha. Sometimes not enough customers for exp. lol but cant do much bout that except try to lure more to us.

Only ppl who really like to converse with other ppl should even take up entertainer. If you are looking to get rich...change professions or have a second one. I have artisian mainly so someday I can make myself some nice cloths and my friends too. Like any job..choose what you actually enjoy!
