Probably for the same reason that killstealers should be warned and banned from the game.

They make the game less fun for those trying to get the most out of their profession.

Is running a macro nescessarially a bad thing in some cases? Yes, AFK grinding out is evil, but the macro system was put in for a reason. My secondary charcter, while technically a buff-bot, uses macros so I can type chat and converse with people. I like the social aspect of entertainer, and do that instead. I don't just let her go on autopilot and leave her. I go on autopilot so she can chat it up.

Though on the other hand, I'd never expect or want a badge. I just didn't like the verbage of macros being an absolute evil. If so, why are they in the game?

Back yet again, for another round of SWG... um... fun. Yeah, that's it. (It's not just a diversion while I wait in the queues for WoW BG's)

Pex, I would like to thank you for addressing the Entertainer community directly on this issue. However, is there any way that SOE's position on AFK buffing and entertainment (although I am quite unfamiliar with what they are officially) could be clearly communicated to the remaining player-base? Otherwise, we end up withincreasingly hostile posts and heated discussion of the issues.

Again, I suggest a fix for the macro zombies.

Imperial Crackdown on AFK Zombies...

In cantinas that are the most populated, the crackdown will happen more often. Stormies will ask for ID and present a prompt for the user to click on. This should happen at random intervals so as to be unpredictable. If you don't present an ID or bribe the Stormies, they send your butt to jail in which you can receive no experience nor can you buff, be buffed, healed or watched/listened. You will be held there until your ID clears a check or you post bail, neither of which can be done from a typed command.

It's still okay to AFK macro so you're not actually outlawing the behavior which the Holocron says is okay now. You are however encouraging the zombie horde to spread out somewhat into less populous cantinas where the Empire is less likely to visit.

We still have our precious AFK zombies, ready to heal whatever cheapskate adventurer is unwilling or unable to find an entertainer to service them and we've forced them to spread out rather than have our Coronet or Theed cantinas entirely overrun we would hopefully see the zombies infect Endor, Dathomir and others where entertainers are hard to come by.

While we're on the subject of profession hand-outs...

I was tols by a fairly reliable source that one or two semi levelled jedi on Intrepid were awardedDark Knight and FRS status as Templar as there were too few Dark Knights and and/or Jedi overall, is this true?

This surprises me not one bit.

On my server there is a woman who's husband got her in the game, macro'ed her to Doc in one day (probably so he'd have a sure fire buffer avail) and ALL this person does is starport buff when she plays. Now that is fine and all, obviously the part of the game that she enjoys is the social aspect of just meeting new people. But there are countless Docs on my server who have been docs from day 1.

They got to doc by going out hunting and HEALING people in groups and in town. Does anyone remember actually healing people to get med exp? Seems a lost art nowadays. Those same docs make their own meds, and make meds to sell to the server. Some of them are server renowned for their supplying meds for almost a year. They buff people (albeit probably not sitting at a starport for hours on end, but as people ask or guildys or friends), they cure people, they HEAL people. They field questions by the hundreds from new docs that have doc/med questions.

The prof badge given out says something like "for setting an examplary example of their profession" (can't remember the exact words). And yet not ONE of these long time, all around professional docs (who have kept Doc for the love of their prof and didn't even try to be Jedi's) that do everything a doctor CAN do, day in and day out for almost a year have one of these badges.

Yet this person who was macro'ed to master doc, has no idea how to make meds, buys all their buffs, and sits in a starport for all their playing time has the Prof Doc badge.

It's simply a slap in the face to the literally hundreds of doctors that ARE playing many aspects of the profession.

To put it blundly professional badges mean squat. Until CSR's take at least a few MINUTES of time to acertain who is REALLY playing their profession using even half their abilities, then they aren't worth the space they take up on peoples bio's and are nothing more than an insult to the other 99% of people that DO play their profession the way it's meant to be played.

ATK players get tips....

LOL, apparently you are not a Wookiee male musician. It is very rare that I get tips. I don't need them, and I always appreciate it when I get them, but I do not get them often.

You miss the point completely. It isn't how much the player pays. That $15 does not give you the right to mess up the game for the ATK entertainers. There is a reason entertaining is a profession. And, those of us who do it as our primary profession do it because we like to entertain. The afk/buffbots broke the game for most of us. They chased us out of the cantinas. And, with the Jedi grind finally going away, we are going to take back the cantinas and do what we do!

/equip chid horn

/stomp off to Theed

They would not have chased entertainers out if it was possible for the limited number of entertainers to play 24/7. I'm sorry Moya' I understand your frustration. I was once a Master Musician without fur myself. I own a cantina, a busy one at that. I didn't make much off tips either, had to hire a Bartender to generate income. I lost interest and my skill waned. The real solution is to improve the Entertainer professions and abilities. Make the 'new' perks un-macroable requiring user interaction. New songs/dances are not going to help anything other than the boredom we have with our limited selection.

The problem was not the AFK/buffbots, they were the solution. There were never any or enough entertainers around and nobody of real dedication played them beyond yourself and the Symphonians. We all hate Coronet cantina with a passion, it is not an enjoyable experience - so afk/buffbots were created.... We prefer our little city cantinas anyday.

They provide a service, for free. I would gladlytip and dotip ATK entertainers well, if I see them. They are still as rare as a Gronda Juggernaut tho....

AFK/Buffbots are here to stay, it would serve us far better if they became accepted as they do fill the 24/7 need. Redirecting the complaints/criticism to improving the entertainer professions with new and more INTERACTIVE skills/abilities would go much farther to improve the game and all of our gameplay experience. If the 'itneractive'improvements were valuable enough, maybe it will be you driving the buffbots out?

Maybe we could schedule a performance/appearance by the great wookie and his palsin Fayth? We are actually training some decent ATk entertainers at the moment who would value your experience and input. Catch me in-game, I'd like to get more involved in the RP community too - just need some encouragement.

You are right tho, they do not deserve a badge if they are afk/macroing.

How about a Master Ranger? We're practically never in a city or town where the Devs might be giving out such badges because we're out doing our Ranger stuff. The only way they'll give out a Ranger badge is if they track us down or leave a trail of food leading into a cantina.

Buffing using a macro is not the same thing as a buffbot. Many live entertainers use macros for a bunch of different things, but they're at the keyboard. The issue here is that the person who received the badge is a bot that is never at the keyboard.
