Thus thisis why it failed and is something you need not take into account in deciding to invest.
Hehe...you are right that SOE shouldn't look at failures like TSO. But, TSO failed for many, many other reasons. For anyone who even dares to claim that SOE doesn't have content, doesn't update fast enough, or doesn't have any communication, TSO is ten times worse--and that's NO exageration. I know, I used to play. SWG is light years ahead of TSO.
But, this is not a thread about TSO. What Sir_Voor says is right, however--"failures" of other social games do not indicate that social games are failures. Social games and social aspects of games such as SWG have a very large player base and interest. The reason they fail is because they are not done properly. That's what SOE needs to pay attention to. Do the social game properly with your entertainers and you will not fail. You will be praised for what you have accomplished and you will have a much higher player base to show for it.

Excellent post, pretty much sums up what alot of us are feeling and thinking at the moment. Only... It was written in a much more constructive way than what most of us could write.
Again, great post.

Hello, regular poster from the Musician forum here... I did read your post in it's entirety, but I didn't read all the answers to it, so I apologize if I repeat anything already said.
There is one area where we entertainers can count ourselves very lucky indeed, much luckier IMO than any other profession, and this is in the Correspondents working with us. NewJedi for the musicians is doing a fantastic job, I hear only good things about Pandu too, and going by these comments of yours, I think the entertainers can be proud indeed to have you as their spokesperson. Yes, it does get frustrating, and overall we're a very cynical bunch these days (wasn't always this way, as those of you who have been around before the holocraze very well know), but do not lose hope. We are starting to make ourselves heard, and while there may still be a lot of work to do, I think that slowly, very slowly people are taking notice, so hold on and continue your great work. We will support you in every way we can.

This post should really be required reading for the developers and also for those of the other SWG players out there who see us as nothing more than a particularly independent type of NPC, to be used when there's bf to get rid of.
Just a few random thoughts at a for me very late hour (1:30am), so I'll cut that short now. Thanks for thatfantastic summary of our current state of the game (as it pertains to entertainers)

Thanks, Tiaga.
Entertainer wasn't my first idea. But when grinding got boring in any of the battling professions, I tried creating a musician.
Nope. Didn't work. I couldn't last15 minutes without getting bored with the bots, and no social scene (Read: RP).
Tried it again a couple months later. Same thing.
This is too important to ignore.

NewJedi mentioned that when this was posted in the correspondent's forum, the discussion with devs and other correspondents that resulted was "discouraging," and let him to post his "Please hire a dedicated entertainer dev" thread.
So what was discouraging? Do the devs actually hate us as much as some of the player base seems to? Should I just quit now?

i would say the lack of dev responce in any of the hard nosed or well constructed posts would say that

Tiaga...I wish you'd never felt the need to write this. Thank you for having had the patience to do so.
I gave up a long time ago. I'm just going through the motions while being with my friends now. I don't even play music most of the time now, other than to bait people who think they can gank me because I'm overt with my Master Musician title up, playing the world object Naralgon by the starport dressedin clothing. (And then I slap on my armor and pound them into the ground with my hammer. Wheee! So much for 'social' gameplay.)
Yep. That's what I've finally been reduced to; playing the Narlagon so that people will attack me. And there's usually someone who obliges.

The discouraging is the lack of response. I did get one response from a dev, but it was from one of the team working on JTL, not the core team.
I've been keeping it up though. Every weekday I've been starting a new post. I thought it would be hard coming up with a new subject to post on every day, but the community has turned out to be a wealth of ideas that I have yet to struggle on what to post next.

Many, many professions in this game are incomplete including the entertainer professions and I hope that they all get addressed in a more appropriate manner in the future. I have left the game several times in the past because of the devs' inability to provide the proper level of customer service. I will not pay for 6+ months of service while I wait for effectual change to occur.

Thank you, Taiga.
I am a Master Entertainer, Master Musician. Stubbornly, I have kept it, and after the Image Designer changes, I would have to think very hard about giving up ME, because I know I could NEVER work my way through the ID tree again as it now stands. Ten minutes to change someone's hair style? I fear there will be no new Image Designers. I know I certainly will not become one. I am not willing to spend a year achieving Master Image Designer when someone can become Master in almost anything else in a week or less.
Sad. All the changes I have seen to the profession so far only cripple it more. They do not help us, they give us nothing new, but, by golly, the 30 second buff is dead, and we have to wait 15 seconds to change instruments. That was really well thought out, yes.
I use macros, I admit it, but not for AFK. I use them so I can TALK to people. And, when I get someone listening to me who really responds to what I am doing, I play live, no macros. Or, just to have fun with it. I play at starship fields, I play in front of starports, and I play in cantinas. And I travel. Lok, Endor, Yavin, Dathimor, Dantooine.
But I see little respect for the profession in my travels, save those places where entertainers seldom venture. Lok, especially.
All too many players now consider our services as "free," or not worth more than a token tip. All too many player walk in and say, "Start playing music now!" And then leave without tipping, or, again, a pittance.
Because they know they can find an AFK entertainer somewhere, or that we will play because we are what we are, and manners are not something to be shown an inferior class.
After all, everyone knows that Entertainers are weak at combat skills, or non-combatants anyway, right?
(Wrong. I am TKM, myself. And I will challenge over insults to myself or other entertainers in the cantina, thank you very much!)
The Devs need to pay attention to your post. It hits the point of the matter.
Again, thank you.
