Thread: It's time for a question again..

Actually, no Beery. I've spoken with several people that were there last night when the CSR (not a dev, there is a difference)did this. It does help that Ahazi is my home galaxy, anda lot of the entertainers there at thetime are friends and associates of mine.

It (the buffbot) was totally AFK, as usual, while the Theed cantina was actually pretty lively with other ATK entertainers. The bot in question typically has the AFK tag up, and specifies in its bio that it is a buffbot. Thereis very little chance that there was a mistake made about it being a bot. As someone pointed out in the thread on the Ahazi galaxy forum, if this CSR couldn't distinguish between an AFK and an ATK entertainer, they didn't want that CSR trying to help them with any in-game issues.

There were several people threatened with account suspensions by the CSR for their reactions to this.People could not believe what they were hearing and seeing, and apparantly reacted in shock.I'm still trying to find someone who can pull a chat log or somethingfrom last night for a transcript of exactlywhat occured.

I have also been notified that word of this has been passed to interested parties in SOE. I won't say any more at this time, but I am told thatthis thing is being looked into in official channels. This never should have happened.

Okay, if you guys feel this is that important, I'll support you. But let's be realistic. Ifwe ask that question, even if you can prove that theCSR was acting wrongly, they'll only give the answer that anyone would have to give:

"This matter is under investigation. We appreciate your concerns in this regard, and we are deeply committed toimproving all aspects of the game. Thank you for playing Star Wars Galaxies."

Don't expect to hear the results of the 'investigation'.

If this CSR did this on purpose, then it gives us an insight into how some oftheSWG staffregard us. Seems they're of the same opinion as a lot of the leet players - they wish we weren't in the game. I've suspected that for a while.

Since June 2004, running one of the game's first completely nonviolent characters. Testing the limits of non-combat MMORPG play and trying to have fun into the bargain (although the developers make it difficult).

Combat is no longer compulsory.

If No, will the team please confirm the CSR team have been given revised instructions on the distribution of badges?

Alternative:

If No, will the team discuss with the three correspondants the possible methods of eliminating the afk buffbot or confirm they will raise a thread similar to GreenMarine's for Smugglers to obtain suggestions from the professions.

While I was initially very upset about the badge being awarded I think Beery is right. If we focus onthe acts ofone or moreCSR'swe will get a palm-off. We need to focus on the key issue and try to get on the path to fixing it. As a start the correspondants could post a copy of Warryyr's idea post in the correspondant forum to provoke some discussion.

Guys and gals, we are all upset andangry to varying degrees, getting angry will get us nowhere, trust me.

I'm also a DE, ever seen any high-level combat droids under player control?

Neither have we after we (yes our fault as much as the devs) got angry because we had misunderstood each other and they indefinately postponed high level droids.

The key point is to get the communication running on the right topic with the same goal in mind, then it will become a technical challenge and in time they are much easier to complete than a political debate.

100% agree Ub-ick

The first issue is a political one. Is AFK playing desired by the devs?

If the CSR was right then the answer is yes and we will have to decide if we wish to play in a game designed like this.

If the CSR was wrong (and I believe he was based on earlier comments - but the flat out question hasn't been answered) then we have the following question:

What level of AFK playing is acceptable? I attempted to raise this in my "Grading of AFK playing" thread but the point is at what point is someone abusing the AFK system as opposed to making proper use of a system to prevent us talking to someone who has been called away from their computer (by a phone call for example).

Once these two questions have been clearly answered we will know what role the devs see for us. Then comes the technical challenge of how to get the coding to bring us to this and that's where a "GreenMarine" style thread could suggest an idea that the devs can code for us.

For now we need to find which path we are on, suggesting how to get along it is for later.

Given Pex's post on 7 July, which the Entertainer community has interpreted as an official statement that AFK Macro playing is not to be promoted,

Alternative:

If No, will the team discuss with the three correspondants the possible methods of eliminating the afk buffbot and / or limiting in some measure AFK play or confirm they will raise a thread similar to GreenMarine's for Smugglers to obtain suggestions from the professions.

Also will TH please pass on the combined thanks of the Entertainer, Dancer and Musicianprofessions for Pex's response.

Question amended in light of Pex's excellent post. I still think it is worthwhile to confirm if the dev's see the limiting or removal of the AFK profession as a goal and to get us started on the route.

Any comments? Now we have dev attention let's hold off on a Theed, Naboo or Coronet, Corellia (if we get a palm off we can reconsider in a fortnight for the next round).

I would appreciate some sort of feedback on when they plan to fix the mind buff bug. Before, you could watch and listen to both a master dancer and musician to aquire both buffs simultaniously. Now you cannot! This problem really promotes people to macroing with the 3min mind macro just to get the customers on thier way. With that it takes about 8 minutes total, possibly 10. Without the buffs and macro, it's a 16 minute wait! That's just way too long!!

Thank you for a prompt reply.

Un-stickying this thread for now... There is no sign of more answers, and I suspect there won't be for awhile, if ever with the shake-up in staffing going on at SOE. In addition, changes are afoot that make some of the proposals irrelevent.

If the questions are reborn at a later date I'll revisit it with a new thread.
