Thread: From TH & SOETyrant Recursive Macros

I have been playing since the game went live - and I can say that the AFK (looping macro) has hurt alot of professions. Not just entertainers.

When I became a Master Doc... I knew nothing about getting someone to tumble for me so that I could zoom up the tree. I Mastered Doc by sitting in the medical center in Coronet - hanging out with the other doctors and healing people. BTW has anyone tried to go to the Coronet medical center lately with wounds... find any docs/medics around to heal you up -- hahah... no... and btw most of the buff bots in cnet don't heal up your wounds - the few docs that are there playing ATK might if you ask - but it of course makes the people standing behind you in line wait longer - talk about a riot to start.

Then we had the hologrind - and EVERY aspiring Jedi began to use recoursive macros in any imaginable form. Tumblers for Docs, AFK for entertainers, etc. etc.

I have played other online games which do not allow AFK play - they feel a player that is playing in a Multi Player game should be there playing - not playing while they are sleeping.

I am glad that the developers are committed to removing recoursive Macros - I shouldn't be able to play the game if I am not at the keyboard... because then... well... the game element is lost isnt it... since I am "not" playing.

How long are we going to see posts from the devs saying that they want recursive macros out of the game, yet never see any results. All we hear is that it is on their list. We've heard it for how many months now? I have been a musician since day 1 of this game. For over a full YEAR now, my character has been useless to me. The AFK entertainers first became an issue around x-mas of 2003, when the devs, in their infinite wisdom, handed out holo cubes to everyone. Overnight people learned how to AFK their way to jedi, and the game has been a pile of crap ever since.

No profession should be able to play their character AFK. I don't care what your "playstyle" is... unattended gaming is not a playstyle, is not allowed in basically any other MMORPG (and for good reason), and ruins the gaming experience of people who are trying to play the game legitimately. If you feel like responding to me and telling me how I am just hating on your playstyle, just save it... yes I am. Cuz your playstyle is what ruins MMORPGs. Period. People like you should play single-player shoot-em-up games and use your friggin easter egg cheats to get to level 500 trillion in 2 minutes. Maybe if you ask really nicely they'll open up a server which will let you all set your skills and stats and equipment however you like, whenever you like, and let you buff yourself instantly with uber long-lasting god buffs. They should just remove /tell and /say and every other function that remotely resembles roll-playing on that server as well, because you will have no reason to communicate with each other once you are completely self-sufficient.

That should make the lazy, motivationless, ungrateful jackasses extremely happy.

You can read somewhere that AFKing will be addressed right after CU.

And yes, I'm happily looking forward to need 2 hours to get a group ready for Hunting because we then need to stay in the Doc Queue first and the Entertainer Queue right after.

The reality is that I've traveled to Endor to do DWB groups several times and I always end up waiting around 10 to 20 minutes for them to quit dueling, chatting, going AFK, and goofing off so two entertainers can take 2 minutes of their oh so precious time to buff them. Then they complain that each entertainer wants 10k per person. Exactly whose time is really being wasted, seems obvious to me I'm the one waiting around not the combat players. Try being organized it does wonders for your lag time.

I'm not buying the gloom and doom, with the joint buffing and reduced buff times entertainers can now buff more people in any 2 minute period than a doctor can ever hope to. We don't have to queue you up and start/end everyone's session at the same time, that is a limitation of a robot running a macro.

This is so on the money! I often provide dance buffs for my guild on hunting and PvP events. I am constantly amazed at how long it takes them to get their act together and get out the door. I get to the appointed cantina 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time and I always end up dancing for more than 40 minutes to get everyone buffed. They run off to get equipment they forgot, run around killing thugs and creatures, conduct trade with each other. You name it and they do it. But apparently the big hold up is gettingentertainer buffs??? I've stood right next to a buff botand watched people spend 15 minutes justtrying to get an invite into the bot group. I can assure you the problem is not the time it takes to get a buff.People are soworried because they have such limited game time... if they'd spend justtwo minutes planning and paying attention they'd be out on the killing fields before they could say "entertainers whine too much." In the time it takes me to buff one group hunting party Ishould have been able to buff 5 or 6.That's wasting my limited game time.... but I guessmy time is not as important.

Just last night I did two DWB groups. The first group held Imaji and myself up for over an hour while they did whatever they do. Now that is an hour of hunting I gave up to do this task. The second group took 30 minutes so was better organized. The groups I buffed were nice and appreciative but it is so typical. I've watched them in Dantooine at the Miner's outpost and seen combat players group with a bot then never invite anyone else to the group, effectively adding 10 more minutes to everyone else's wait. I just tired of hearing how it is us that is the holdup.

I've seen this too... and am in total agreement with you regarding those complaints.

Well, I was going to say I kind of saw Taduc's point. If you're playing in order to have fun cruising around blasting womp rats or going on PvP battle royales, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. More power to you. And I can see, if that's what you're in to, how spending time in the Cantina or wherever seems like a waste of time that (1) you don't have much of and (2) you could be spending out wasting gnorts.

But then I learned (hey, I'm still a n00b!) that you can buy food and drink that buff you just as well as an entertainer, and way more conveniently. I'm not aware of a limit to the amount of time you can hold food in SWG. It seems like there are a lot of options (hunt without buffs, use this brandy I hear so much about, befriend an entertainer or two that play at the same time you do) that don't require the use of AFK entertainers.

So now I kind of don't see Taduc's point. If you're all action, all the time, it seems like the thing to do is buy up a whole bunch of brandy and then reenact "Drunken Master." That keeps you buffed without hosing the people who go to the Cantina to hang out.

how? I can create a macro that is not recursive and does the same thing but requires me to interact every once and a while to restart it... doesn't seem that big of a sacrifice if it gets rid of AFK play.

Yes exactly. Ok it is easier to make a macro loop forever but no where near required. I can make a 3 to 5 minute macro that echo's to me to hit the button again and then I can do what I like while simply hitting a button when reminded every few minutes. We aren't talking having to press a key for every single flourish we do.

Been here since day -90 and I've heard it has been a priority for just after launch. I said it back then and I'll say it again. I'll believe it when I see it. I haven't logged in for any reasonable duration for 6 months or so, but I still keep paying for the account in broken hopes that this will be resolved. I still have hopes that it will and Tyrant is doing a good job at convincing me he is serious about it. So I guess we'll see.

I don't see the problemafk'rs personally. They provide a service and fill in gaps.

Do you want to walk into a cantina at 2 AM and not be able to get a buffbot? What if you just worked all day and want to go grind for a little bit? Nope, no mind buff, go walk around wasting time trying to get one. It was frustrating enough that it took up to an hour to get ready to go out and grind being that your waiting on long lines for a doc buffs and then some noob forgot to invite the mind buffer twice.

Anyway eliminate skill pt requirements or drastically reduce them for entertainers. Could a great warrior not be able to play a flute? Somehow you can be an ace pilot and a great warrior but you can't be a great dancer and a warrior.

I wouldn't mind entertaining my friends for a few minutes and then they could entertain me for a few before going out hunting or PvPing.

How about adding "hobby" points so people can take up certain professions as a hobby entertainer, musician, buffing and even some basic skills like scout novice etc...

(blah blah blah, worst Idea I ever heard, blah blah blah - yeah yeah I know I know, I'm used to it.)
