15 of 17 AFK... 9 of 12 AFK...

And people ask what the AFK Macroers are doing to hurt the entertanier profession. This is why people have no respect for entertainers. Not because one is over in a corner quietly doing it... but because they see the majority of them in the major cantinas doing it, and they think that everyone is like this.

My tolerance for AFKMers is basically 0 at this point. If I am in a group that includes one but the rest of the group is RPing, then I will ignore it.. But I'd never be part of a group that was half or more AFKM. When that happens (as it often does in Moenia's cantina on Naritus), I just leave, buy a shuttle ticket, and go perform in another town. Luckily Keren seems to have ONLY dancers and musicians who stay alive and at keyboard. A lot less patrons, and only a couple of entertainers... some of the AFKMers from Moenia keep asking me why I go there. The XP is lower because the groups are smaller.

My answer? Yeah, but I'll take a group of 3 active RPers over a group of 20 AFKMers any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

AFK people still don't bother me when I group. I just make sure to use /stopband when we are changing songs, and since the AFK person isn't there to tell us what his highest song is, there is a good chance we will play above his level. If, however, we are playing within a song she can join, and they are running a flourish macro... I just really could care less. They ignore everyone, and everyone ignores them... they get xp, people get healed... kind of a win-win situation. If someone is going to tip, they will be tipping someone who isn't afk anyway, so it really doesn't hurt the band either. This still seems like a jealousy-motivated issue to me.

People aren't dissing macro usage. People are dissing people who use macros then walk away for hours if not the whole day.

I was in a group this weekend in a real busy cantina. We had a full group, including a group medic. The rest were entertainers.

If someone came and asked for an invite, the known AFK macroers were the first to go. If they didn't respond to the second warning /tell, they were booted. So we ended up with a band of 19 active entertainers. It was one of the best times I've had.

On the other hand, many times I've gone into the same cantina, seen it full of AFK tags, and walked right back out. The AFK macroers are scaring off people who may become real entertainers. If the AFK macroers weren't there, a new entertainer might come in, start playing, and feel that they were doing something, instead of just being another piece of furniture that AFK macroers make themselves into.

Down with AFK macros! *grabs the torches and pitchforks*

Inside my heart is breaking, my make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly - my friends

Yup... I have started spending my time in a smaller cantina where there are only a handful of entertainers and there are zero AFKMers. My old stomping grounds (Moenia) was more than 50% AFKMers the last couple of weekends, most times... bleh. How boring. What am I supposed to do while waiting for customers to come in, roleplay with myself? Yeah, that is a ton of fun.

The whining becoming annoying? But what does it hurt you at all? Why should you care? It's not like our whining is "hurting the profession".

It seems to me that with the only comment being "Remove them" it's hard to tell if people are talking about the macros or the Macro-Play-Gamers.

I am going to voice my opinion in this matter, and I'm going to say I'm a fence sitter leaning towards the anti-macro side.

My reasoning is this. I've recently decided to make Master Musician one of my major professions. And I am someone who has sat and spent the time playing in the cantinas live. While the rest of my guild members were off doing something that would have been either fun or beneficial to my combat professions, I was in the cantina playing music and interacting with the bands and guests.

I'm slowly earning my way up the ladder, but the one thing I dislike is playing with a band who are not there. That's not fun at all its like playing with a computer band.

Last night I had a blast at a cantina, it was a very small band but it was fun cause everyone was there live. We were able to switch songs several times, coordinate our flourishes and so forth.

Sure I'm a little ways away from even obtaining Novice musician, (I still have 30000 exp to Musicianship IV and then the exp to Novice Musician yet) and I intend to put in as many live hours needed to get there.

The only time I play music while AFK is when I'm out in the middle of nowhere on some planet in my camp. Thats it.

When in a cantina I Announce if I'm going AFK AND for how long (depending on the reason). But I always return as quickly as I can.

So as far as I'm concerned AFK Macro people may have their reasons for doing what they are doing, but I am taking the time out of my life and game time to earn the exp to get Master Musician, no matter how long it takes.
