Thread: DOWN WITH AFK ENTERTAINERS

The hilighting above is my own.
This is a common misconception. The EULA prohibits third-party macros. Any macro that is built with the in-game macro system is, by definition, a legal macro. The devs have stated as much. I dislike the problem as much as anyone but that doesn't make it illegal.
I have heard rumors that since the last patch there is reduced XP for doing sequences of repeated flourishes, but so far I haven't seen the evidence of it myself.

I will be opening a PRC cantina this week and plan on posting a sign out front: ALL AFK ENTERTAINERS WILL BE SHOT ON SIGHT. I will be part of a militia in town and I will carry this out. AFK grinders are just plain lazy. I made it to master Musician without being AFK,ok I went to the bathroom several times in that longclimd to the master levelbut never any longer than that. Article 7 of the agreement between you and SOE clearly states that the the use or creation of macros for the purpose of gaining XP while AFK is forbiddin, write an E-mail to SOE and let them know this condition is not only intolerable but makes the entertainer class next to worthless. I've been thinking about the same thing but haven't approached the head of militia about the idea yet.. The thing that worries me is the pile of corpses in the cantina. (Actually, they would be outside since warn gives them a TEF which kicks them out of the building)
No one is saying that macroing in itself is cheating. I use a macroto take care of my flourishes. I started because, before I did, I was typing "/flourish #" so often to keep my xp maxed as a musician that I had no time to greet customers, or sing little songs, or even interact with my fellow entertainers for companionship. I'm sure that I'm not the only non-afk entertainer who does the same.
My current dancer character has her own fans. She's got one guy that's a veritable groupie, who even moved to the same player city to be around her. And yet, I cannot seem to gain any healing xp. See, I can dance all day in that player city cantina, and I will too, and gain dancing xp. But the problem is, until that city grows, no one comes. That means no healing xp at all.
The solution to my healing xp problem? Why, take a five minute walk south to Coronet. But I've voiced my problems with the Coronet Cantina on Bloodfin numerous times already. The few people who aren't AFK have this bad tendency to prefer keeping the AFKers in the group, rather than allow people like myself to join. If I join, the leader will make the same amount of xp back. Know what his/her concern is? If I leave, and there's no live replacement for me, then they're making a couple less xp per tick because they cannot re-invite the AFKer.
This game is supposed to be about helping each other out, working together, cooperation. The AFKers aren't helping me, they're holding me, a legitimate performer, down. And these AFKers are even turninglegit performers against the other legit performers... their greed for xp seems contagious. They're disruptive to others' play environment.
While I get annoyed at AFK surveyors, they aren't harming people. People with harvestors achieve much better results. But the macrotainers are damaging. Not only the outlook on entertainers in general, but to the advancement of other players. Anything that gets in my way of successfully playing the game, that another player does, I believe is wrong. I don't do anything to hinder them.
To be perfectly honest, as long as you don't spam the spatial window with your begging for tips and heals, I don't dislike you.
I do dislike a person who has a group full of AFKers who refuses to drop one AFKer when a live entertainer enters the room.
The AFKer will still get xp either way. The AFKer can play when they aren't there. I can't. I need the xp boost of playing in a group.
Honestly, if you're forced by a holo, I see no wrong in it. But when a person AFK macrotains and prevents me from getting better, when entertaining is what I really want to do with my character, and worse yet, they give us all a bad name by spamming for tips and heals... well that just makes me angry.
You wouldn't like me when I'm angry. ^_~
My solution for the group leader - select an afker as a group leader, then disband and create a new group of live entertainers. You will get only the "live xp" boost and won't harm the AFKers too much, yet you won't get xp from the ones that you dislike either. Sorry if it seemed a little bit offensive.
What I forgot to clarify is that not all AFKers are as bad as the others. Some are doing it because they must, a holo thing. Others like to spam for heals and tips using their macros, which is a very, very annoying practice and reeks of greed and laziness. If you aren't actually playing, you certainly don't deserve a customer's money. The second type are the types I would boot for a live player, the first isn't doing anything wrong. The second type, on top of taking up ATK entertainer spots, is also giving entertainers as a whole bad names.
Yes, I want to use them to increase my xp. I wouldn't boot them all at once, and I wouldn't boot them just because they're AFK. I would only boot them if a live player enters and requests a spot while the group is full. At that point, I would boot the most annoying AFKer/the AFKer who'd been in the group the longest, and only that one.
I'm not asking that this curteosy be done only for me, you see, but for all the people who want to actually play out being an entertainer.
