Thread: Can I get a rant?

The issue that needs to be discussed is the lack of gameplay, content, andways entertainers can seperate themselves from other entertainers with the same skill boxes (through in game items, perks, etc). I can't believe that Entertainers are taking this lack of attention from the devs.
"Loot" will kill what we do faster than any other thing I know. Because you can rest assured, live players won't get the lion's share of it. What I love about entertaining is the fact that the skill boxes don't make one better at it. The loot doesn't make one better at it. The thing that differentiates Master A from Master B has always been the person behind the character, and that takes a set of skills that no grinding can overcome.
Right now, people prefer ATK entertainers from AFK ones for the sheer fact that they both can do the same things, but the ATK one makes the experience fun for the patron. Its the only way someone like me can survive. But if you make the profession about loot, then the dancer with the better loot will get more business--attentiveness and effort to entertain notwithstanding. While its true that crafters and armoursmiths have to deal with this all the time, they don't have an unattended problem like we do, andthey arenot asocial professions the way the developers intended. We are different. We provide services, not goods. It becomes like this:
Master A is an unattended lot mule running a buffing macrowho's prime bought her a Jabba Uber Leotard, tapes, acquired all the loot that was available to buff at +200%. On top of that, she doesn't need to be paid
Master B is at the keyboard and works hard to greet every patron, but is only able to buff at +100% because of lack of loot. She works for tips.
Now tell me, if both Master A and Master B were in a cantina, who would get more business? Master B? HARDLY. That is why loot will kill our profession. It emphasizes distribution of "The Goodies" more than it facilitates gameplay.

When did I ever suggest loot? That's a horrible idea. Right now you could take 10 different Master Armorsmiths and they'd all have very different wares. If you took 10 different Master Pistoleers, they'd all fight differently. Now, out of the 10 different AS, they'd all be different players and have different personalities (just like entertainers), but they still have items that make them different. Different resources, crafting tools, techniques, experience, and whether or not they have done the R.I.S. quest can make sure that very few MasterArmorsmiths are alike at all.
When you look at two Master Entertainers, they're going to do the exact same thing in the exact same way. The only thing that you like PoetDancer (and I've seen this in all your posts) is the ability to use spatial. An ability that everyone in the game can use. I'm not saying that it's bad that you like it, but that's not why you like being an entertainer. Right now I can run the /dance emote in a loop via a macro, wear an entertainer's clothes, and through my charming personality and spatial chat, I can be an even better entertainer thanANYONE without Novice Entertainer. If someone wants to get healed/buffed there's a NPC healer/buffer right over nyah in the middle of the cantina. See any problems with that?
Actually, since this is about the Entertainer profession, buffs shouldn't be an issue since that's an elite skill.
Either way, the skill boxes in Entertainer do nothing (except for Image Design... but they don't have that much they can do until they're elite either). I find this to be a problem with the profession. Also, there are no items other than bio-enchanced or loot clothing that provide function to the Entertainer profession and the bio doesn't make much of an difference.
So, I mean, I think that the only thing that the devs did right for Entertainers is giving them Spatial chat. That seems to be enough for some people... *sigh*
Exactly what would you propose that we do? You think we like being ignored? You think we haven't tried to get their goddamn attention? Honestly, if you think you have a way to get their attention over here and see the problems, I'd love to know because I'm completely out of ideas.
Kirah reaches out and give Javier a warm hug . . . .
I know this is frustrating. I know that there areseveral troublesome problems with the entire entertainment profession and the lack of respect and attention given to our members by the devs. I will neither make light of them or belittle anyone's concerns about them.
That being said, we can't give up on our proffession. I doubt there is any other profession that has had the exodus that the entertainer (and specifically the dancer) field has experienced. If the best, brightest, most articulate and outspoken of our membership continue to leave then eventually only a few dogmatic holdouts and a legion of AFKers will be left. There will be no one to stand strong for our cause. And no one will care. Andthe uber-macho types who thing this game belongs only to them will have their way.
I love to entertain. I can't do it in RL, but its a blast in SWG. I'm not willing to give up.
You ask what else can be done to get the devs' attention, Javy . . . don't give up and don't give in. And don't leave. That's what else.

That question is academic. It does not matter how hard it is, they don't see any problem whatsoever with AFK macro'ing.
"If that is all the response I can get, then no wonder people go afk."
You should have seen Coronet on at least my server in the few months after the game opened before people knew they could AFK macro all day long. It was a blast and had lots of roleplaying and lots of people joking and socializing. Those days are gone now. Welcome to the new world.
