Thread: Being cheap with tipping.
Ok, I'll go with that.
I also think that any other profession in this game needs more money (credits), whether it be armor or a gun than anything an entertainer needs.
A lot of people are trying real hard to get a house or get a better weapon and it just doesn't come off right when someones compaining about not being tipped.
I guess I have to get used to a whole new 'Un-Written Rule Book'
Thanks for your insight tho, well said.
Ok, I looked for another post for you in the game guides and another section but couldn't find it, so , I'll just write it here.
I don't want to offend you, but this is the life of an entertianer and only an entertainer, now, I don't know if you are also a medic or marksman or whatever, but here's what you got to do.
You have to go to any cantina, press /startmusic, or /startdance..... pick your song or dance and than you could seriously just type in /afk (away from keyboard) and leave until your electricity goes out in your house. Being an entertainer is by far the least talented profession in this game and it's really not even close.
You don't have to be by your computer to collect xp, you don't need any money for your profession (and if you do, it's very rare) and you get xp for free.
Of course you can always talk to people, do flourishes and minor stuff like that, but what do you really expect for a profession that requires you be in one room and type in one command.
There's a reason why it's the lowest profession started with and it's because it's the worse. Still kinda fun, but by far the worst.
One of my alternate professions is entertainer, so, I know what your talking about, but let me ask you this... for the people that don't tip you, are you really going out of your way to help them (for the most part?)
Now for medics, that's different, they have to be at their computers a lot, making stim packs, waiting to heal you and buy supplies, they deserve it a lot more.
Listen, I'm an entertainer too, and I consider any type of tip a gift and thank them. All I'm really doing (for the most part) is standing there playing music and I'm not one of the people who just leave their character at the Cantina all day and just play, I stay there, do flourishes and interact with people, but that doesn't make me anyone special or think I'm really going out of my way to help another.
Just my 2 cents...
Sorry man, but is is the easiest profession in the game. Ok, tell me this than, whats one harder?
Ah, Gnort, that depends on what you define as hard. I bet that you and I don't define challanges in the same way, and many entertainers would agree with my definition. To me, it is basically a snooze to click buttons and kill things. The real heart of a Role-playing Game (which is what the "RPG" in MMORPG stand for, as you well know) is, in a nutshell, roleplay. Roleplaying well is, to me, far more fun and challenging that going off to kill some tusken raiders or what have you.
Some people see this game as a glorified arcade shoot-em-up. To people like that entertainers are an "easy" class since they don't have to shoot anything, and having to go back to town to heal BF is a pain because they want to be out killing things, not in the cantina 'wasting time.'
Others (like me) see this game as an RPG, and to us the cantina time is not a necessary evil, but a great roleplaying boon.
You arerequired to stand in one room, am I wrong?
We are not "required" to be anywhere. You gain XP anyplace you dance. I can be a street performer if I want. My character won't be able to heal you outside of the cantina, but otherwise she can do the entertainment thing anywhere.
Please!!! I'm actually being entertained!?! Man, I'm there to heal my battle fatigue so I can go blast something again. I'm being entertained? As infor real entertained? You might want think about that, cause I'm giving you the chance to take it back.
No, clearly you are not being entertained. In which case /plop yourself down in the cantina to heal BF and go get a snack, then go back out to the video-game-shoot-em-up that you love so much. Nobody will mind.
However, yes, the entertainers can entertain people, if both the entertainer and the customer are rolelaying. In fact, the entertainer is, by far and away, the best roleplaying class in the game. Bar none. Roleplaying is built directly into the class. You can't be a successful entertainer without doing it.
Say what you want about SOE and LucasArts. I tip my hat to them. They actually built a game where RPing is not only encouraged but it is practically thrust on you -- by forcing you to go into the social hub of the town (the cantina, the theater, etc) to heal up... They did everything they could to enocurage and promote roleplaying in this game. Which frankly is shocking to me given the other MMORPGs out there like DAoC and Planetside which have no RPing to speak of in them at all. You almost have to go out of your way NOT to roleplay in this game. Which, if you want to do that, you can... but don't expect the entertainers to sympathize with it.
There is a reason why people who start the game, only 3% start off with Entertainer, so, really, what do you expect me to say?
Good. That makes my PC much more unique. I like it that way.
I'll tell you what, to be fair, next time I have some cash that I can spare and the people interact a little, I'll tip them(which I have, plenty of times), but it's people who really think they deserve it, for doing the simplest thing in the game (by far) that gets me.
Turning on /startdance and doing a dance macro is simple. I agree.
Roleplaying is NOT simple. It is far more subtle, complex, and challenging (roleplaying well, that is) than any shoot-em-up skills you might think you have from all that twitch-gaming in the countryside.
The long and short of it is, with practice, ANYONE can be a good twitch gamer. I've done it before. Not interested in doing it right now but I can do it. But not everyone can be a good RPer. In fact most people seem not to be very good at it. They also don't seem to either know or care that they're not good at it, which is kind of sad.
Roleplaying is the most challenging and exciting form of gameplay ever devised. When you are roleplaying, you aren't allowed to just answer questions any old way... you have to answer them in character. So saying, "Dude, that rocks!", from a roleplaying perspective, is a no-no, for example... because that expression is not "in character" for the Star Wars universe. (Instead you have to say something like, "Impressive... Most impressive." LOL). Good roleplay requires you to THINK about everything your character says, everything she does, every actions he takes. Not just easy stuff like, "Which action will gain me more XP." That's not challenging... you can look that up. But you can't look up, "What would my Twi'lek dancer who was an orphan say in response to this guy's question?" and then phrasing it correctly fir the character... THAT is a challenge. One that, sadly, most twitch-gamers seem not to realize is a challenge, and they generally aren't up to it anyway.
It's too bad you don't seem to want to try roleplaying. You might find out you like it. In fact, I will go so far as to say, I have never personally met anyone (live or online) who has tried real roleplaying for any length of time and decided they DIDN'T like it. It just doesn't seem to happen... And that says something, IMO.
As always, of course, these are my opinions, not facts. YMMV.

Cheesack, I originally said what profession is harder, but that was just a typo. I meant to say, what is easier!
No doubt it's the easiest profession to do in the game and I generally agree with everything you just wrote.
Your into roleplaying, your into something else (it looks like). Have fun.
I always tip nowadays, since I have more money than I started with earlier with the game. I never watch anyone who is AFK, since they don't appear to keep their eyes on the game, I don't appear to need to pay them. Most of the cantinas I enter have a few people in them though, so I can usually watch/listen tosomeone else. I do some dancing/playing in my spare time to get some Xp as I sit in the cantinas.
If a person runs missions daily, they will get around 10k a day. Lowest amounts>1,000. If they play enough to care. If you get paid at least 1k a day and you actually need healing, then you can at least tip under 100c. It's not going to kill your budget. I tend give over 200-500. Depending on wounds. Some people should just learn to spare a little every now and then. It's not going to cripple your bank account dropping 200c once a week in a cantina. Heck, 50c a day in a cantina isn't going to hurt either. Just tip these people, they are saving your butt.
Weird that people would actually not tip on a planet without anyone around. Some folks just never appreciate good heals.
