Thread: What /denyservice has gotten the entertainers on my server.
...if you're in a place where you're the only entertainer, sure.

Yeah, and what's to prevent someone who is the only entertainer in a joint to just NOT dance/play unless they are tipped first. Same "exortion tactic", eh?
I can't wait for /deny service myself.
There is a slight difference. With /deny, you can do selective healing. So, four of out five guys pay you, and the fifth one is SOL. This is bad if he is flat broke (and be prepared to see some of these people when auto-insure is thankfully turned off). The way it is now, you have to accept the fifth guy. Although, a true jerk will just take the money of the four and skip out of town. Such is life.
It’s not much of a difference, really. The griefers will still grief people. They didn’t need /deny to do that. The jerk patrons will still be jerks. The /deny won’t dissuade that. I suspect not much will change with /deny.
But I actually see a lone benefit to /deny. You can refuse to dance for people of the opposite faction. Okay, I can appreciate that. You can bet that if I’m dancing with rebels in Anchorhead, I’ll /deny Imperials along with the other performers (maybe I’ll take bribes to dance in a private house outside of town, heh heh heh).

We will then be the only class in the game with a negative, exclusionary command (beyond /ignore) to manage the service we provide. To me this is nonsensical - I may not like Michelle Branch, but if I'm at one of her concerts, does she have the ability to shut my ears off?
We already struggle with a major image problem in this game, folks. We have been called lazy, nerds, care bears, gay, lamers and a hundred other disparaging labels. Why? Think of the reasons:
1. There are too many of us who abuse the macro system to gain Master status without every learning how to be an entertainer.
2. There are too many of us who run our favorite macro-spam petitioning, demanding, or begging for tips.
3. There are too many of us who think overt sexual behavior is a way to get more tips.
All this, and a refusal of service is supposed to enhance our image?
Why not go for something positive, like a way to target a player and actively buff their mind pool? Or holos we can sell that give players heals or buffs while in the field? Something positive for a change, please?
Please devs reconcider adding this feature to the game!
It violates the very spirit of the entertaienr class. If real entertainers could deny service to people who download .mp3s don't you think they would? If I'm dancing or playing music in a public place I have no way of controlling who listens and who watches. It's a simple fact and a logical one. If wan't to be able to deny service I can allready do so by stoping my entertainment. I can also entertain in a private club where the owner can cast out people who are scum. Public cantinas are the dive clubs every entertainer has to suffer while they make a name for them selves. The fact that the owners (thats you devs) never kick out unruly customers is all the more reason to get your act together and take it on the road. I feel that the only purpose for this comand is for an entertainer to hold his customers hostage untill they agree to tip. Thats just a bad thing no matter how you slice it and I'm begging you to drop this idea and never look back.

Do you have music that you don't like? What if the entertainer noticed you didn't like it and started intentionally playing it? Or maybe you called that guy over there gay, so now he's started flirting with you just to get your goat? Maybe that girl is giving you the cold shoulder.
Seems to me like quite effective ways to deny entertainment. Sure, you can still watch/listen, but you wouldn't get enjoyment out of it.

I find it hard to believe these folks target everyone coming in the door and deny them service. Why do that?
Well, I'm not sure if it is going on in this case, but the people agitating for /denyservice as a means of ensuring tips would certainly do this.
/deny everyone who walks in the door. Then when they say, "Heal me!" you say, "Tip me first, then I take you off my /deny list." In other words, it's a tip extortion tactic.
Again I don't know if that is going on or what, but that's the only reason I can think of for doing that.

Oh brother. The use of /denyservice to receive tips is not extortion. Allow me to illustrate:
B goes to A's establishment to receive an essential service.
A requests that B pay up front for said service.
B cries, "Extortion!"
I'll start yelling at vending machines about their extortion. After all, they make me pay before I can enjoy the cool refreshment of a soft drink.
