I was playing my chef and crafting in the cantina, wound free and wanted to listen to some music. I found that I couldn't listen to some people. Well, they were low on heals so I logged in my 2nd account on my CM and went to the cantina....again no wounds. I was there healing the entertainers and found the same people had /denyservice on.

So what has that gotten them? No heals. And blacklisted. Also, I have made it clear to all other medics in the cantina NOT to heal the people that have them on /denyservice. If I am healing them and have no wounds, why deny? Welcome to no heals ever.

Maybe I don't understand the ability having not used it, but don't they have to /denyservice to individuals? In other words, they'd have to target you and explicitly deny you service.

I'm at a loss why that would happen. I find it hard to believe these folks target everyone coming in the door and deny them service. Why do that?

I guess I'm confused.

Well, I'm not sure if it is going on in this case, but the people agitating for /denyservice as a means of ensuring tips would certainly do this.

/deny everyone who walks in the door. Then when they say, "Heal me!" you say, "Tip me first, then I take you off my /deny list." In other words, it's a tip extortion tactic.

Again I don't know if that is going on or what, but that's the only reason I can think of for doing that.

yes, that must be it. I got fooled by 'Radiant' in the signature. *whew* thought I was really behind the times!

Either that or he was bitten by the bug that makes it impossible to listen or watch people: if I'm grouped with someone with my novice entertainer/novice medic character and they need healing, the radial menu gets "too full" and I don't get a watch/listen option. For some reason, /watch and /listen don't seem to work at that point either. (It may be something else causing the commands not to work, but this is what I suspect.)

I've heard from other people who have had similar problems. So don't assume that this is because of a denyservice: especially since they have to deny you explicitly, and since it's not off of testing yet.

Typing /listen or /watch works when the radial is "full" of other commands.

Are you sure these entertainers were all in the same group? It's quite common for there to be a band in the cantina as well as a few afk macroers who are not in the band. This could have been the case.

Concerning the unable to watch/listen bug, I've found the following usually works...

- stand up and stop an actions you're doing (dancing, etc.)
- /stopwatch and /stoplisten
- choose watch or listen from the radial menu, or /watch or /listen, whichever works


I don't think I've had this fail yet. The key is to be standing up (not sitting), and clear yourself out by stopping watching/listening.

PS - /deny is not yet in as far as I know either

/deny is on the Test server, or will be soon.

It is not live on any other server. Someone needs some facts straight I think, or got hit by a bug and overreacted a good bit.

Hardly an "extortion" tactic... There should be plenty of others around to heal you, and this is the only leverage this profession has, really.

I mean, if you posess a skill and someone wants training in it, they can't leech the training from you -- they have to ask for it first, and then you've got the option of charging them for it. If they don't like the price, they can move on to someone else....

True, it's pretty weird to not be able to listen at all -- and not get some kind of message like "500cr to listen to the band" ...

i will again post this the deny service is a joke.. much like tips are.

adding a hire command ro radial can solve this. (for healing only not for just listening) the hire fee much like tips is not set.. but what a player can afford to pay and completion of the heal can be worked in to the fame rating which will show a player honesty in fulfilling the job.(lets face it there are gonna be ppl who try to accept a job and bail low fame would discourage ppl from hiring an entertainer)

making so that the group shares a "hire" fee will make sure that even the new chars get a lil cash flow for starting off. again the whole band heals the mind much faster than an individual why shouldnt everyone get a cut. groups will also be a bit more selective of who joins because they want each person there to accept hires and everyone working hard to play the gig.

making so that the entertainer must accept the offer from the customer will helpeliminate afk dancer/musicians. see above

the tip idea in concept is great and should be left in... but to live off tips is nuts and if you want to play an entertainer/dr or other non combat rolls that is exactly what you are forced to live off. in real life even dancer/band get a base pay to go with tips... why not here (this should also apply to medics/drs).
