Hello,

well, what I posted in the thread here http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=entertainer&message.id=15304#M15304
would still be valid as a request for consideration and information.

My main concern is that Entertainer professions shouldn't be cut from the rest of the game and from the money flow.

My char is currently Master Ent, Dancer, Musician and ID. I don't really desire a combat role.

However, there is little being said yet in which way stacking will actually be addressed. If stacking is still possible and just limited by the number of Elite Profession you can master, then it might be an idea to add some smaller combat skill mods to the Entertainer tree, maybe as a representation of improved "body control" or whatever. This wouldn't affect my char, but it might be a nice thing for mixed chars.

"Would you welcome an actual combat role for Entertainers in the CU and what professions do you currently have in the game?"

No. Entertainers are Entertainers, not combat professionals. I can always pick up some marksman or brawler on the side if I want to. Interaction in form of Healing in Camps and Cantinas is fine though - I like to go out with a bunch of fighers once in a while, keep back during the fight (get in one or two shots) and fix everyone up afterwards.

I'm currently running Master Entertainer, Novice Musician, Some Marksman, some Scout, Freelance Pilot.

Entertainers should stay (or rather: become again) an integral part of the day-to-day life of every player - just like doctors, crafters or creature handlers are.

And while you're at it: Get rid of the possibility to AFK entertainer. It completely destroys the game. Really.

Cheers,
Lotelion

Ok so entertainers are not combat and not part of the CU. However, they are changing the way the profession will work and taking some current attributes away without any clear thought as to what we are supposed to do. Have they figured out what an entertainer is supposed to do after the CU?

My Wife's character is master doc and dancer.....hmmmm.

jeez people. All Blair is saying is "no, SWG Entertainers will not become Bards from medieval fantasy games." What he is saying is that we will not be performing on the battlefield to apply short term buffs like D&D Bards. Performingduring combat will not be an option. Performing before(if our buffs stay) and after (BF healing) will still be there, however.

Social means interacting with other players in variousways, not just sittingaround and chatting. A doctor who heals, cures, or buffs someone is another example of a social profession. Either in this thread or the dancer thread, someone said something about being a "performance" profession. That's still social. You're interacting with other players. In that case, you're performing and other players are watching.

Point is, don't get hung up on the semantics of the word "social." Entertainer profs are not combat profs, and hopefully never will be. That's not to say you can't master musician and entertainer and master an elite combat prof and go kill stuff. It's just saying your entertainer profs will be helping you very little (or not at all) during actual combat.

Right now, it's time for the Combat Upgrade. Non-combat profs are supposed to get a pass/upgrade after that. If that doesn't happen, then it's definitely time to get utterly ticked off.

No, while I do not claim to be a Blair expert (I've only talked to the dude like 3 times ever, over a period of two days, only about his take on Ents)... I do not think that was his point.

When Blair means Social, he means "chat." It is silly to try to make him mean something else. It builds up expectations that will not be fulfilled. I think it is more important to try to understandBlair's real meaning of Social and try to find out what else that entails beyond the ability to chat in cantinas where combat players must come for downtime.

If you assume that Blair has any opinions against AFK or keeping the Cantina Chat Environment clear from spam or any other "implied" type of commitments like that which might be inferred from a dedication to a protected Chat environment and profession, you are pulling this completely out of the air because afaik, those promises have never been made and in fact the requests for such protections that have been madehave been turned down since the very first Ent Corrs asked for them in the very first days of the corr forums.

Panthu, nothing in my post has any relevance to the other issues surrounding our profession (AFK play, spam, etc.) concerning Blair's stance.

I'm merely pointing out that social means non-combat.

If Blair thinks that social means purely chatting, then he's being pretty myopic.

My other point stands. It has been clearly stated that non-combat profs are not getting any love at all until after the CU. If the CU removes the ability for pure entertainers to generate income, then that's a problem, obviously.

You should probably being saying this stuff so that it is more directed at Blair and goes in with the other CU feedback being taken up in the In Concept forums now. Try this thread maybe. Clicky

Please post your feedback on the "Blair's Blog" series (and particulary the quoted portion above) in this thread.

Also, please answer two questions:

"Would you welcome an actual combat role for Entertainers in the CU and what professions do you currently have in the game?"

It's one thing to have the option for people who do not *want* to kill things, but the statement from Blair seems to imply that those people are currently successful. Now what's the definition of successful that's being used to determine this? I have to run combat missions to pay the maintenance cost on my cantina. That's not very successful if you ask me. I think the problem stems from a lack of common definitions. What they seem to mean by combat role is someone who takes up arms and inflicts damage. But that's not the only role. In any war there are healers, suppliers, spies, fighters, etc... those varied roles are all intertwined in the "combat" although perhaps not directly involved. I would indeed welcome an actual combat role as an entertainer. I have one currently and have no desire to lose it simply because someone is under the mistaken impression I simply want to spend all day in a cantina waiting to chit chat with someone.

My current template is: Master Dancer, Master Rifles, Medic 2 2 0 0, Scout 3 0 0 0

Clearly the problem is that they are not part of the social playstyle

At this point I would welcome almost anything for Ents. But I guess it sort of depends on what you mean by "combat role" if by that you mean bardish type ability... then I think that would be very interesting at least. If you mean game tie in and interdependancy to the combat game. Then I have to say... Yes by all freaking means we MUST have a role related to that. Combat is the center of this game and everything else relates to it like spokes on a wheel... I would love to have a role in like crafting but we honestly need to have some tie in with combat.

My main Oh-Orb is Master Entertainer, Master Musician, Master Dancer, Artisian, Merchant

I have other Oh-Orbs on different servers that have crafting and combat of various types but they are mostly used to just take a quick break or meet up with someone

I think everyone’s definition of entertainer’s part in combat is different, same as everyone’s definition of the so-called “social profession” is different.

Do I want my avatar to have flourishes with AE-DOTs on them to be used in actual combat?

lol nope I don’t.

Do I want her to be contributing part of the overall game, be useful to combat and non- combat professions?

Yes, the hell I do.

Reading Blair’s statement makes my skin crawl, because I get the impression he’s expecting us to look pretty and stay quietly out of the way and let big boys play the actual game.

I sure hope my impression is totally wrong because I definitely don’t want to spend my in-game time exchanging fashion tips and cookie recepies.

I did not buy the game to become the Inter-Galactic Martha Stewart or the Mindless Bimbo.

My avatar is Master Entertainer, Master Dancer and Master Musician with remaining skill in TK.
TK not because it’s something I have fun doing, but because I DO have to pay maintenances same as everyone else and same as everyone else I do have in-game expenses.

Area DOTs on our flourishes would be really cool though!

And I'm still waiting for that cookie recipe

I posted. I doubt we'll get an answer, but hopefully betweena certain wookiee being very insistent and the rest of us, they might give us info before TC gets the code pushed to it.
