Thread: AFK Entertainers are the worst!
I was in a cantina on Flurry when one of the entertainers remarked "Wow! This is the best atk band ever!" (We were having a lot of fun). About 30 seconds later he cheerfully remarked "okay, Im going afk, goodnight all!" I was completely boggled. Didn't he realize, didn't they all realize that by going afk you are creating an unfriendly environment for the rest of the players? Pretty soon the place would be silent and zombie-ridden, just like every other afk cantina.
I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for a new player to start up in a cantina that is like that. The ones that dont get totally turned off the profession probably decide that this is just the way you are supposed to play it. Many think you have to have a begging macro spam because it must be the only way to get people to watch or tip you. And very few of them learn any of the advanced mechanics because no real master enjoys hanging out in places like that and so no one is available to teach or guide them the way I was taught and guided.
The only way to stop this kind of thing is to simply refuse to do it. It should be easy enough for people who want buffing alts even. On Wanderhome my entertainer character is in corellia mainly. Everyone knows the pit that is Coronet and I refuse to dance there. Instead I've gained all my xp by healing guildies after corvette missions and now JTL. Completely ATK and completely fun.
No matter why you are doing the entertainer profession YOU as an advanced gamer and a decent person can make the decision to not add to the AFK problem. Just. Don't. Do it. It may require a little effort and a little creativity but there are other alternatives than to leave yourself afk in a large public cantina group. And believe me, it is MUCH more satisfying to know that whatever the problem is, you haven't contributed to it, no matter what.
The only person's behavior you can truly control is yourself. The only person who can set a good example is you. YOU make that decision. Not the game.

Ok i will explain futher. I am ATK about 40% of the time with my ent, yes i do enjoy playing it, very much actually. I am just not up for sitting at the keyboard for hours watching myself get xp? what is the point when you can do the same thing and be able to be away from the keyboard? are you saying because im not at they keyboard while grinding my ent that i am doing something wrong? What difference is it wether i am doing it AFK or ATK.
While im ATK im chatting in group with the other ents and we can get a good convo kicking most of the time.
I dont see what all the fuss is about.
In-gamexpshould reflect the player'saptitude at playing that profession. Have you ever met a "master" Tailor who doesn't knowwhat goes into anythingexcept for ribbed shirts and toolbelts? What about a "master" Chef who has never heard of Halva? What about an Image Designer who has to ask for explanation when someone asks for holoemotes and not a stat migration?
There are many people out here in Galaxies who have no idea what it is to actually play the professions. Very few people seem to become intimately knowledgable about the professions. Instead, they mindlessly grind them up to master and then they can drag out their master title and say "Look, I'm a Master!" when in reality, they have no clue what it is to be a Master in that profession.
Take it from me, the more you love these professions, the less important xp and levelling becomes. Instead of a grind, it becomes an experience to be savored and enjoyed. Sometimes I really wish for the days before I was a Master Entertainer, Master Musician, Master Dancer, Master Image Designer, Master Artisan, Master Medic, Master Doctor, Master Teras Kasi, or any of the other Masteries I currently hold. The fun is in the journey.

I do not grind to master title for the sake of being a master and i do know what im doing actually. I just do not want to be ATK all the time.

Guys.....you know what is even worse than afk entertainers ?
Being the only live ent in a band of 11 and trying to start a good conv with patrons.
Dang, those peeps arent even interested in a good talk...they come in and when you try to start an conversation all you get is "hi".
This is soooo frustrating.
Unfortunately very few ppl appreciate us live entertainers and yet complain about afk peformers.
Just had to get this off my chest
Oh no..this is more frustrating...
Having a new player want to join yourtroupe but every time they show up for practice you have to spend most of the allotted time explaining to them how to play the profession because all they ever really learned to do while working their way up the skill boxes was to turn on their macro and walk away.
