Thread: Male Dancers
I tried Dmux,I really tried. I gave it my best college effort.
I was up there with the best of them, smiling, waving, greeting, chatting, carrying on 3-4 conversations at once. Helping out people of my faction with covert information. I done this in crowded locations, I've done it solo in empty cantinas. I coordinated my lights and the dance, etc, etc, etc. I put forth my best show possible several times. The result was usually in the range of500-1000 credits per hour.
I'm kind of an analytical freak, so I've done stuff like "super effort entertaining for a few hours, look at how much I made". Then "no effort for a few hours, check the tips". And then "run missions for an hour, check the wallet". I noticed a couple things. The effort put in had a VERY minor impact on the tips I made. If I smile/wave/greet/chat withhalf of the people that walk in the cantina. That half will tip me about 60% of my total tips. The other half that I don't interact with and completely ignore give me the other 40%.
I do enjoy the dancing,I only wish that I could make real tips in the cantina, without "running missions". Running 5 destroy missions to buy something just makes me seem like I failed. And I hate failing. I think I might ask some of the regular customers tonight what I could do to earn better tips from them. ![]()
Tips? I've made like two tips my whole career so far. Female dancers will always overshadow us, they've got a bigger assortment of clothes. We all have to basically look the same.
Le'ab here from Bloodfn,
I felt alot of the pain you other guy dancers have suffered.. but since poplock2 i have bought some new outfits and make a killin over a few hours time at the smaller cities. I get some nice tips I have found that if you play the crowd and actually entertain, you will get your due for the positive experience. I also partnet with a female dancer, Fluffay alot. We have about 2 matching outfits so far and get many complements when dancing together.
Also I have noticed that since i have stopped asking for tips, i make more tips. You just have to show you are having fun at what you are doing.
Now, dancing for exp in the large cantinas like the ones in bestine and theed are a different story.. thats y i called it dancing for exp because that is all it is. As a matter of fact, I often spend money tipping the healers that are keeping me going.
As for the sex thing I think i have had one negitive comment made about me being a male dancer, and Fluffay downed him for me LOL - that was a trip. (Thanks babe).
On another note: has any of you sent a message into sony as to more masculine dances or moves? or some slinkier male clothing? I mean the ladies get practically a cork and 2 bandaids and we are stuck wearing full outfits. I have never been to a chip and dolls show but i am sure they aren't fully clothed when they are performing.
If i can help any of you on bloodfin, just let me know.

Yajedi,I'm a female dancer so I have no right to judge you becuase I've never walked in your shoes but I think it's silly to dance for tips. You complain about recieving tips??At first I would get AT THE MOST 100 credits per every 5 hours.I started wondering what I had done wrong.I soon found out that it's not what gender you are but how much you interact.I moved to a new cantina and started to INTERACT with my custormers and recieved better tips. You say that the males don't want attention from you.Well then mabey you should observe what form of attention you give them.Just keeping your mouth closed and dancing infront of the doen't work.Nor does batting your eye lashes.Yet if you talk about something intresting(yet not suggestive to only the oppisite sex)you might recieve better responses from the same sex.
To each their own,
Dmux
Good for you Yajedi!!!
I see my friends who are male musicians get the most measly tips because everyone wants to watch the half naked chicks. I hate to admit also that when my friend and I designed my character we said, "Alright, what will make her a money maker?"
Too many people come in and tip based solely on appearance and sex appeal, and completely pass by other hard working dancers and musicians.
I don't know what can be done about this, but I do agree that something should be done about it.
Best advice if you want to make money at this is to create a female. I dance because I actually very much enjoy it, mostly the social aspect of it. If I need cash, however, I have to go and run some missions. I can strike up a conversation with people, but if they have a choice between tipping me or the lovely Twilek wearing practically nothing shaking her body beside me, I have absolutely no illusions where that tip is going. And you know what? I don't begrudge them that, they're working as hard as I am and deserve those tips.
I've gotten tipped twice total, and the biggest one came from a female dancer beside me.
As others have said, being in the less crowded cantinas, especially on the more advanced planets, might net you more financial success. I prefer the party atmosphere of the crowded cantina at night, it's like a drug I cannot shake.

I dance to dance because I love to dance. IF I am lucky enough to make tips then its a good day, but I dont dance to make tips, I dance to dance....because I love it. I run missions for my money....and if there is a particular outfit I want (like this groovy dress & headpiece I am looking at that will cost me about 20k) I go out and run enough missions to afford it....its just as simple as that...
Male dancers are a wonderful thing & I dont think people appreciate them enough. One of my dearest friends on Ahazi is a male dancer & he is just wonderful....I love to dance with him as much as I love to fight with him. Hes just great like that, all the way around...
and remember sweetheart, it IS all about the Lekku, baby
I am a male dancer. I don't find getting tips to be too tough. Guys tip regularly just for BSing with them like one of the guys. It may come as a suprise but not all guys on SWG are overstimulated 13 year olds hoping to hook up with a pixilated representation of a female. I also find that adding the helper tag and being able to answer most questions that are presented to you also helps with tipping and forming a base clientel.
Granted living on tips is still not very profitable so i found a better way to make money. I get dressed in the best thing i have and get to dancing, (composite armor really kills your ability to dance so i only wear the helm) I get maybe 3 people every 10 minutes that ask what im wearing and where did i get it. It just so happens I bought six extra outfits of the same type so i stop dancing for a minute sell them one of my outfits, at a slightly inflated cost so that i can make a profit, and get back to dancing. Find a tailor with lots of skill and a keen business sense, they are ussually willing to selll items to you in bulk and/or at a reduced rate if you are willing to model their clothes and pass on thier name whenever anyone inquires.
One complaint i have about dancing is that the career is definatley geared towards female dancers. I want some male outfits and dances. All i can do is wear a tactical suit and do that **edit** footloose dance.

Trying to stick to the subject of male dancers....the only thing I can say from my observations is that, like in one poster's example, the men don't talk much. I'm female playing a female so I look for male dancers. Not to be sexy. I would be mortified probably if someone was a serious Fabioswankmeister. But if it's toungue-in-cheek or they are chatty/funny/playful I go out of my way to tip them well. I just don't see many of them.
The same seems to hold true for my own dancer. I play her to be fun and try to engage people in a little wackiness. When I make them tango with me or compete for the best riddles, etc. I get huge tips.
As far as Anchorhead goes, on both galaxies I play I think it's a lousy place for tips or entertainers in general. It seems to be a big PvP area and people just want to heal up and get back to battle. They aren't paying any attention to what you're doing there.
