Thread: Entertainers and AFK / Unattended Macroing...

I usually mix macroing with non-macroing.

If the cantina is really hopping and there is a lot of /say-based RP going on, then I will fire off a macro for the dances so I can keep up with the conversation and RP. If it gets quiet and the conversation hits a lull, then I hit funciton keys and try out different dance "numbers" (after which if I find one I like I will add it to my macro list).

The other thing I like to do is really strictly and perfectly time lighting effects... Certain ones go well with certain flourishes at specific points in the flourish. It's hard to hit the flourish button and then do a lighting effect on just the right timing every time. But if the dance is macroed, I can just watch the flourish with my hand over F12 (or whatever), and at the right time, hit that, and get the light to go off just when I want it. If I had to do (say) F3-2 seconds-F12, there is a much larger chance I will screw up.

Well now...

It's only "inhumane" to spend "so much time performing" if you don't like it.

I happen to LOVE playing my dancer and having her perform. I have macros that run while I am AT KEYBOARD. I never go AFK for long, and if it's more than a quick bio break I have her stop dancing and sit down. Do you know why I don't AFK macro? It's this: I don't want to miss even 1 xp that my character gets. That's right. I don't want to miss it. Because I love playing her.

I like getting new dances but I don't need them all RIGHT NOW the way so many people seem to. I am happy to work on each new dance for a while, and then after a week or so of nightly dancing, just start swapping in the lower dances (that's right -- lower dances, lower XP... I do it because I am not focused on XP).

I do not consider "having to be there" playing my character as she dances to be inhumane -- I consider it to be the most desirable form of an evening's entertainment that this game can provide. This is not to say I don't go hunting or crafting sometimes (she is also a marksman and an artisan), for I do those things too. But I don't like them as much as dancing and I don't do them anywhere near as much.

It seems to me that if having to be there watching and playing your entertainment is a cruel and unusual punishment to you, then maybe you don't like being an entertainer as much as you thought you did...

omfg if its "inhumane" then quite if you dont like performing all the songs all the time then leave the profession or grow some balls.

I agree but you sweeties know that by now, I think. I started using some macros myself last weekend and I find it's much easier to interact with people who come in the cantina and watch me dance/play music. AFKers should just go away, it's obvious they don't like the profession. It's very rewarding when you see that message popup just as you welcome a new customer in the bar.
