Thread: How do Entertainers make money?

I've received a good deal of wealth through generous tips and benefactors. Some will even bring gifts, which can be sold for profit so long as they aren't sentimental.

But yes, a second combat profession is a healthy backup for cash.

Well I play a female, and it's not like I'm going home with a new Swoop bike every night. The fact is, people simplydon't pay for the service we provide, and that's true whether you're male, female, Twilek or Bothan. I'd say that 99% of cantina entertainers don't maketheir living as a cantina performer.

Someone mentioned the fact that, unlike other professions, our service gives us pure profit. Surelythe fact that we have no outlay for providing the service should be no reason not to pay for it. Surely we have just as much right to make a profit from our laboursas anyone else. If I spend 4 hours working to hone my abilities, while an artisan spends 4 hours at his work, why shouldn't I makethe same in terms of pure profit that the Artisan does? We both spent the same time on our labours, and he makes aprofit while I'm expected to make none at all.

I do notice that women make more tips than I do. I also notice that I used to make a lot more tips than I do now. It's definitely becoming harder, but it's not impossible. However, spending 5 hours in a Cantina and making only about 10K in tips and maybe selling only 3 buffs because everyone else has already used a buffbot is becoming very frustrating.

My greatest source of income right now using my entertaining skills is when I'm performing with the Rift Runners. I usually make about 50K a gig, but it seems that lately the gigs are becoming fewer and farther in between. Part of that is because we all seem to have busy lives right now, so I can't blame the game mechanics or the population for that. But, I think that right now, the best chance to make money is to become part of a band. Even if you don't, you can make enough money to survive, but you can't expect to buy any luxuries. You'll be able to buy some new clothes every now and then, you might even save up enough for a house. But, entertaining is a poor profession, it always was. However, there was a time when you could conceivable make a lot more than you can now...that was when we were an economically viable buff selling profession. If buffing could be made an ATK only profession, we probably wouldn't become rich, per se, but at least we could make enough to afford some of the simple luxuries than every other profession gets.

It also, of course, depends on your server. Some servers are more entertainer supportive than others. While I may be able to sell 5 buffs in an hour on Kettemoor (or more sometimes), I can barely sell 1 on Tarquinas. But, I also think the demand for male dancers is underrated. There are a lot of female players that enjoy watching a male dance (and males too, for that matter.)

How would you know for sure? I play a female dancer and I get peanuts, andthere's no way I know how much the people around me are getting tipped. It's easy for me to think that because I'm getting hardly anything, that others around me are making more, but there's just no way to tell for sure unless you have access to the game log.

I'm a male dancer. I got tipped 58 credits the other day in about 2 hours of ATK dancing. Yes, I own! Ph34r m3, I am ub3r r1ch. Or whatever it is one says. Actually I have had more tips that that on other occasions. Generally I run missions though as I have combat skills if I am ever short of credits.

Well, for one thing you say you don't believe in talking to your customers. My experience tells me that people prefer entertainers that talk to entertainers that don't. *shrug*

But it's true, we're seriously not making as much as we used to. A little as 2 months ago I could easily make 15k - 25k and hour, and that's me not using the Speed Buff exploit. In fact, my buffs would take over 10 mins, and I stillhad ALOT of repeat customers.

Again, it's been said before, but the buffbots are teaching people the new way to treat all entertainers: as free buff dispensers. All we can do is convince people of the advantages that we have over the bots. It's good to see some people post that theyhave converted to using Live entertertainers, or some posts that people have stopped BEING Buffbots.

Fight the fight, and be entertaining!!

Well, for one thing, one of my characters (not listed in my sig) is female. I don't play her often, but when I do, I tend to get a lot more tips even though she is merely a novice. But, she's sexy and she wears a leotard. Different servers, so you can't always compare. But, it seems to me as if she gets tipped more relative to the time I spend playing her.

Also, I have conversations with women entertainers and I read posts by women entertainers. They seem to get more high end tips from rich male characters. It's just a general observation. I can't say I've ever gotten a high end tip from a rich female (or male) character, and it sure isn't because I don't "work it."

1. Ok, get master entertainer and novice ID in addition to your other skills... stat migration pays about 10k a pop (about what you make for both sets of mind buffs at Master Level) I made about 200k a day off tips doing stat migration and I told people I did NOT want/need tip money. But people tip anyway as the realize that it takes 10 minutes and you cant do it completely AFK.

2. If you are an AFK entertainer dont even bother putting that "please tip your entertainer" crap in your macros as all it does is make everyone loose respect for the entertainer proffesion and quit tipping altogether. It also gets on the nerves of people not AFK.

3. Entertainer terminals/missions. People say these things dont pay well, but that is because the level of missions you get to choose from is based on your skill with the weapon you have equiped, if you have no combats skills but are a master dancer you get the lowest level mission. Dont ask me why this is. In any event, the low level missions do pay at least something, enough to buy what little a pure entertainer needs.

4. Entertainer Quests. These are going to be added to game and will pay out a few thousand credits each. You just have to perform a "Simon Says" audtion in a Theatre for a panel of judges.

5. Dont expect to get tips for healing BF/Mind wounds if you are not a Master Dancer or Master Musician. Why should someone tip you for helping you get XP in entertainer wound healing? Docs pay tumblers to get healing xp, crafters pay 300k for grinding reasorces to get crafting xp on practice mode, and you want a tip for them helping you level up? The woundedcan get healed faster watching the nearby Master performer instead of you, but they are being nice and helping your newbie entertainer group out.

6. Mind Buffing at Master Dancer/Musician pays well if you are willing to do it not just when you feel like it, but when others need it.

7. Perform places other than cantinas. In front of Ft Tusken, at the starports, in Jabba's Throne Room. People will often tip you because they enjoy the novelty of it, and because they know you are not doing it for the BF/wound healing XP but because you enjoy performing

8. Try and actually be entertaining. Dress funny or sexy. Change outfits. Flirt and chat with people. Write an interesting Bio for them to read while they watch/listen to you

That's fine, but don't you think that a profession - something that people actuallydo for a living - should pay the bills??? I mean if I want to be a Master Entertainer / Master Dancer / Master Musician, surely I should be able to have a reasonable expectation of making enough to get by on 3 MASTER PROFESSIONS. Don't you think it's a little odd that 3 of the game's master professions pay so little that it's virtually impossible to even pay for the upkeep of a small house??? I mean that's like saying that it'sreasonable to expectthat master cellistYo Yo Ma would live on the streets. In reality he doesn't need to find a second job to pay the bills. It seems that in SWG's wacky universe, world renowned musicians and dancers get paid worse than part-timejanitors inthe realworld. How does that make any sense??? Please explain it to me, because I must be confused or something.

This holds not only for afk entertainers, but for any entertainer. In fact, I find it more annoying when it's done by atk entertainers.

Heh, so do I. It's almost as if I think that being ATK these days is so rare, that if you are, you must be a real entertainer, so you should know better than that. I want to go up to them, and shake them and say, "What are you thinking?! You're acting like one of THEM!" LOL

On one of my character'sis an an Apprentice Dancer. I was dancing in the Bestine cantinaand was one of the only entertainers there. When someone came in I would greet them and I would talk to them while I healed their wounds. Within 10 minutes I had earned 40k. Doesnt seem to hard to me.

Let me assure you that your experience is by no means typical.
