There are two ways.

1) Tips

2) Secondary Profession that can provide money

I chose number two. I multiclassed my Dancer with TK. I run destroy missions to gain the money I need. Relying on tips has proven to be unreliable.

I make my money mostly off buffs. As people don't seem to tip(they never have really tipped much) but now they don't seem to tip at all for healing. Some times I managed to group up with someone while they run a destroyer mission but I stay as far away from the fighting as I can as I die really easy.

The generosity of strangers for the most part.

Buff-selling is a good mechanic, and I hope we get better means to "watch the buff get into action", but not holding out for it.

Musicians can also craft instruments and sell them to make somewhat of a living, although probably not as good of one as in the past . Back in the later months of last year, I used to do pretty well selling instruments on the bazaar, with the Ommni Box and Nalargon priced the highest at 1250 credits and 2350 credits respectively. I remember reaching 100,000, 200,000, 500,00 credits in my bank with increasing sales from instruments lol .

Then when the Holocrons came, and more and more people started becoming Entertainers and Musicians and selling instruments, the prices eventaully went down.

These days, I still sell musical instruments on the bazaar in Theed and Coronet and have to restock daily, often times more than once, but at much lower prices. I'm not complaining though, since I now have more than enough money, and just enjoy making sure all of the new Entertainers and Musicians have instruments to play!

In the profession bases Buffs are the main income for most. How social you are and how attractive your avatar is to the audience will offer you higher tips as well. But you can't rely on people just tipping you to be there. Many know the fact that it doesn't take supplies for you to entertain at it's base. If you are only offering to heal their BF and Wounds they may not see a need to tip. Buffing on the other hand for a dancer is demanding and unless your stats are all dedicated to action and it's secondaries you will need a quickness buff. What does this mean? I spend anywhere from 2,000 or more to get buffed so I can stand in the Cantina and hope someone wants a dance buff from me and not a Automated player. I have no ill will for players with automated buff systems though. They're filling a need and when I need mind buffs for Rifleman I'm happy they're there.

I had the opposite experience with prices and AFK'ers. Depending on how annoying their macros are, how intrusive they are, how many professions they've mastered, etc, my prices for instruments go up between 2x-10x. (After all, I assume that if they send me a /tell, they've probably already tried the "masters" in their group and have gotten "Afk auto response: I am busy destroying this entertainment profession, leave me alone." from all of them. Even with these outrageous prices, I have never had a hologrinder turn down my instruments. (and yes, before I "price-gouge" I always check to see if it's an afk macrotainer. If it's actually a live entertainer, I'm liable to give them a free instrument and jam with them for a little while.)

Tips have always been my main source of income, and i've never had trouble keeping up my shopping habits Dancing from day one in the same cantina, making friends with the regulars and occasionally going elsewhere or to my own or various friends player-city cantinas. Get to know the people, socialize and have fun. Chances are they'll come back and visit you again.

I run a string of solar energy collectors, and sell it on the bazaar.

I made a lot of mine from playing gigs, and from participating in band contests.

We have an agent who books gigs for us. Things like weddings, private parties, etc. The pay is good and we get galactic exposure.

Plus, we have a periodic band contest with really good prize money.

When I lived off of tips, I was dirt poor. I barely had the 5K to pay for novice musician when I trained. I did make artisan goods for a while, but that just gave me a little mad money.

As expected, there are virtually no tips available to entertainers in the grind capitals, after all the populance in such places is almost entirely made up of grinding entertainers and medics. But if you tour the galaxy, and throw in a tiny bit of RP, you'll meet surprisingly many people who still value live entertainment, and are not afraid of showing this At least this is how I experienced things on Starsider.

Buffing provides additional credits but makes it harder to actually entertain (at least for me), and the buff-bots made it much harder to find a good location to sell buffs.

Of course, compared to other professions, entertainers make virtually no money, but at least it should suffice for a house, speeder, off-planet transportation and a minor shopping addiction without having to beg on the streets. And hawtpants.

If you're a male, don't expect to make much money from the entertainer professions (Maybe Musicians, but definitely not Dancers)
