We understand the nature of this issue. In essence, we can’t prevent AFK people from playing, but one thing we are doing is looking at different ways we can encourage at-the-keyboard play.
(And I know this will come up again, so here is why we can’t prevent people from AFK. Given that this is an online game, there are people out there who are very smart and will learn how to play AFK no matter what we do. It is just the nature of the beast. So instead of keep it so that only high-end computer savvy people can AFK, we make it fair so everyone can do it instead of just an elite few.)
I feel better now that this is encouraged by SOE.

i think that about sums up how most of the Non-entertainers feel...
we dont go to the cantina because we want to...we do it because we have to...
we dont want to "socialize" with the entertainers....we want to get healed as quickly as possible and leave..
early in the game myself and a couple of other people tried hanging in the cantina and using it as a rendevous point...but to be perfectly honest we couldnt stand being there...the main reason was the entertainers...we where trying to conduct business but really couldnt for all the entertainer chatter and to be perfectly frank the entertainers really annoyed us using sappy emotes every 5 seconds and talking about the silliest of things...it was really a place for RPers who enjoy mindlessly chatting.
Going to the cantina is really just a chore we have to do.
0dd then that so many on my server who are not entertainers are banding together trying to get them back to how they were adn saying how they wish it was like the old days.....

And it's better now ?
If you want to conduct business and feel you can't in a cantina, go to a store. You don't get battlefatigue conducting business, so if you don't want to be in a cantina, don't go there.

I have one question about people who are complaining about non-combatants not being able to get their FSCS without fighting in some capactiy. Mind you, this question is totally legit, so please don't flame me. I am really curious and seeking an answer.
If you do not want to participate in combat, then why do you want to be a Jedi? That is the essence of what a Jedi character does. It is my understanding thatthere aren't many other things for Jedi to do besides learn how to weild a lighsaber and manipulate the force mainly for some type of combat related activity. Now I guess there are also skills to use in iterrogation, healing, and movement, but if you wish to become a Jedi ONLY to use the jedi-mind trick then what exactly is the point? Plus, the way I understand, a Jedi must follow the Jedo skill tree and cannot become a crafter, or musician, or medic.
So the basic question I wish an answer to is, why do the non-combatants or people who wish not to participate in combat, want a force-sensitive, Jedi character?

I'm not one for calling people 'wrong', but I must completely disagree with you on this one. The Jedi are not solely combat-oriented. After reading much source material on Jedi, playing them in other games (PC and table-top RPGs) and such, it becomes clear that the Jedi are peacekeepers, yes, but not simple 'torch-wielding' swordsmen. The primary role of the Jedi during the Old Republic was that of ambassadors, mediators, negotiators and defenders (not only with force). It is true that most Jedi were extremely deadly in combat, and many specialised as such. But many people seem to think that Jedi are just 'tanks' with fancy weapons, made to look cool in the Phantom Menace by some guy doing cinematic martial arts. This is simply not the case. The ideal of the Jedi (and the training) was not to simply bend the force to one's own ends and will, but to become one with it (like the principals of Enlightenment). The Jedi were taught to ignite their lightsabre only as a last resort to all problems, and to seek to end violence as quickly as possible.
I personally believe it is wrong to view (and to play) Jedi as a PvP profession, but hey, I can't tell others what to do with their paid-for subscription.
Naturally, Jedi are based almost entirely from Japanese Samurai, and to believe that they are just cool dudes with 3-foot razors (another misconception), is to not understand them at all. The Samurai culture was based around a code of conduct, that in addition to helping one attain a higher level of humility, understanding, grace and mental/physical strength, would outfit them with the tools necessary to die in the most desirable manner (dying for one's master). In the Jedi, becoming one with the Force is the highest ideal most Jedi wish and strive towards.
Sorry that this isn't on topic
I'll go post it on the Jedi boards too ![]()
