In order to keep this professions fair and worthwhile, please start setting cover charges for your dancing/playing. If you are strictly an entertainer for your own guild, then please dance/play in a private building that you only give access to guild members. Even if you are still grinding the profession and just standing in Bestine or Coronet, whatever, PLEASE CHARGE. We need to keep this economy the way it should be (more credits in your pants). CYA!!

I think we should start paying people to listen to us.

You do what you want, but I seriously doubt this is a serious post. If it is, good luck with that.

I don't charge people.

I work for tips.

I don't, and will never, charge. They tip or they don't. And I seem to be okay, even if I have been in a rather obscure location along a river since BF was removed. You'd be surprised what actually saying hello can do. (Aside from starting a conversation, of course.) 100K for a conversation? 1-900 numbers can't get that. *giggles*

I do appreciate the sentiment in seeing my fellow entertainers think of ways to re-invent our integration into the player economy. However, forcing charges has never been a good way of ensuring business. Just like in our real-world economy, forcing the market with fees/taxes/levies/excises/etc only causes a general increase in cost of everything.

The same can happen here. I mean ask yourself, who's in charge of setting a rate thats acceptable? I've recieved tips in excess of 100K, maybe I should set this as my access fee... maybe we all should...

I've found, if you want to make a profit in this market, offer a unique service. IE: be LIVE (as I frequently say), and do other little gimmicks (songs/outfits/chat/etc).

I'm sorry to have to say this but...

No. I will not set a cover charge. If you can't make it financially because of this well... that is your problem.

My character is independently wealthy from other sources but even if she were not, she'd be a millionaire from tips. Why in the world would I ever need to set a cover charge if that is the case?

I don't take kindly to being told what to do with my character. If you want to cover charge, that is YOUR call. But don't tell me how to roleplay my Dejah (because that is what you are doing -- you are telling me that I must RP someone who has a cover charge).

In my opinion the covercharge facility is useful to only one type of entertainer - the AFK variety.

The live entertainer will get more than enough tips if they actually entertain - by entertain I do not just mean play music or dance and I most certainly do not mean having an almost naked twi'lek female demean herself almost to the point of prostitution.

Interacting with the audience, making a nice ambience, role-playing your character - it all works wonders.

You will never get 100% of your audience to tip you if you follow my advice but you will gain the respect of those who do and they are the important ones.

Entertainers have a special invisible in-game skill which takes a lot of time to gain ranks in - it's called "reputation".
