Shouldreceiving service from a buffbot be a tippable or non tippable service?

While the people running buffbots justify themselves as 'providing a needed service since its hard to find a real entertainer', the real reason they do it is to make a little extra cash on the side. If noone tips these things, maybe they'll stop running them after a while and move on to some venture that will make them some money.

Buffbots should absolutely be tippable. With just a bit of collision detection on characters, I'd be willing to tip them over whenever I see them.

It seems that part of the problem with buffbots is that they're always standing upright. Now, I'm not sure about everyone, but I'd be less likely to use a buffbot dancing exotic 4 laying on its side on the floor. So sure... I'd always do my part to help, and tip them right over.

Oh... wait, I get it now...

Buffbots are no people.

No Tip, and best a Ban from that server.

They are the single greatest threat to the Survival of a MMORPG

unique Character Idea.

i would DB them, if i could. If i have to drop Mindwounds/BF i always

see a life entertainer, and tip good.

Whenever I see a buffbot run, it's not to get a little extra cash. It's usually an alt character that's made available to the main and the main's friends as a convenient place to always get a buff. The money is just a bonus.

However, I agree that in either case payment must be made for the effort made. Crafters find resources and make the items. That's an effort. Live entertainers take the time to heal and buff their customers. That's an effort. There is no effort in letting the computer do all the work for you.

So, no, they'd shouldn't be paid for their services. Of course, they shouldn't even be allowed to offer them, but that's been discussed to death.

Oh, and I also agree with Deila. Kinda like cow tipping, but more fun

I would love to say No they shouldn't get tipped. But I just have this feeling that IF people were to start doing that for buffbots more.(I tend to think most people right now do tip them for getting buffs) But I tend to think that if people stopped tipping buffbots for that... then it's a lot more likely they stop tipping me for it. And that really is the only way I make money at all.

I dislike buffbots because they circumvent an intended game mechanic/dependancy between combat professions and entertainers. For this reason alone, I would not do anything to support their flourishing in the game world (sorry about the pun, unintended).

What I do find some who agree with me doing is visiting them long enough to join the group with the bot and spam /stopm until the buffbot breaks and will remain out of service until the player returns to the keyboard and restarts it. I find this a poetic justice and though I do not engage in it myself, soundly applaud those who do... fighting fire with fire may not be right, but when those who engage in this care not for 'right and wrong' outside what literally will get them banned, I suppose anything goes.

So have you thought about it enough to figure out why you feel that way, or is your assertion just based on an animal urge to get what you want no matter who it hurts?

Lets not turn this into a total flame war like all the other ones.. please?

No, buffbots should receive no compensation in any way.

If there is a buffbot and a live player side by side advertising buffs, 99% of the people are going to go with the live player.

The only time someone will use a buffbot is when noone is doing buffs.

So I don't see any problem with the buffbot.

In fact if combat players know there is a 100% chance they will be able to get a buff at a certain cantina because even if noone is on duty there will surely be a buffbot, they will be more likely to come on a regular basis.

Leets (who probablymake up about 50% of combat-orientated players) actively prefer buffbots. They will tell you as much. Buffbots do a better job and faster than an ATK performer. Leets are only interested in one thing - pwning. If a buffbot is available, they'll always go for the buffbot because it gives them a better chance to pwn. No leet is going to pass that up - their entire philosophy is built on becoming as 'uber' as possible. Heck, with the added advantage of there beingnofeeling that they should tip, it's a no-brainer for them.

To say that these folks will go to a live performer when there's any alternative, is simply wrong. Leets have always wanted us gone from the game. We are an annoyance to them. The buffbot is their saviour.

Well that hasn't been my experience;

Generally what happens is players walks into cantina and say "anyone buffing"

I send tell and give them buff, and everything is good.

AFK buffbots generally can't do the 3 1/2 minute full buff; and time in this game is the very definition of power gamer.

If an AFK buffbot does a better job of buffing than you can while sitting there; then maybe you are the one doing something wrong.
