Make the Devs stop ignoring the Entertainers. We will not be ignored.

It's time for us to take some action, form up, unify, and show the Devs and anyone else who will listen that we're tired of our style of gameplay being ignored, and threatened to extinction.

What started this: TH's answer to the Musician question in the 6/10/04 19 questions post:

Musician
What force skills will you be implementing for specific advantage to the musician profession? Will they be implemented with the Jedi system, or how soon after? If the answer is "NONE" may we provide a list of suggested skills that would be specific to this profession for developer consideration?

The answer is “none”. Please work with NewJedi to develop a reasonable list and I will work with the team to see what is possible and what is not.

It is unacceptable that an elite profession should be completely ignored in the upcoming Jedi revamp. I would imagine that Dancers, Master Entertainers, and Image Designers are in the same boat - no Force Sensitive abilities. I'm not sure if we were forgotten about, or just ignored, but there should have been plans for something to be added content-wise for Entertainers, with the Jedi Revamp. Some examples for Force skills for entertainers, limited to buff improvements:

1) Increased Buff Duration (to match the length of Doc buffs).

2) Increased Buff Strength.

3) Decreased time to apply a buff.

These suggestions have been kicking around for a long time, but as no one from the Dev team seems to know the Entertainer professions' forums exist, we may as well not have discussed them at all. I would imagine that anyone with a limited amount of experience in our professions could have concocted these ideas, if only they spent a minimal amount of time thinking about it. Our correspondents have done a wonderful job at trying to communicate to the Devs that we need attention, to no avail.

Protest details:

Time: starting at 6PM EST on Tuesday June 15th until whenever - and every Tuesday thereafter. Heck, do this whenever you feel like - every day, if you want.

Location: Theed Starport, every server, away from all the merchant barkers.

Details:

Folks should form one big group, or several small groups. Dancers should dance Basic so anyone can join, and Musicians should play Starwars1 (this way any Novice, or folks who want to pick up Novice to join us, can play/dance with us too). Use lighting effects, put on a show. Everyone is invited - Dancer, Musician, Image Designers, Entertainers. Contribute by playing any instrument, dancing any dance, or simply just listen and watch, and chat it up. Have fun!

Doctors and Medics will be needed for healing - tell your healing friends this will be a good chance to get some serious xp from lots of flourishing entertainers! Quickness buffs to let us play longer and flourish like mad would be wonderful, too.

Group leaders should run a /bandflourish macro with decent variety, to keep things lively. All group members should *NOT* flourish or run macros - just do a "/bandflo on" and let the group leader (elect one for Musicians and one for Dancers in your group)take charge of your performance. We want to look professional and organized, and really put on a big show!

Bandflo's reduce xp, but folks, this is not for xp, this is not for heals or tips, this is for the future of our professions.

If you run out of action, just stop playing and wait to heal up. Group leaders, if low on action, should set "/bandflo off" and regain some of their action, to avoid stopping the group. Let the rest of the group keep going, but stop your flourishing for the good of the group's performance.

Keep comments constructive, to the likes of "We're not AFK, and we're not NPC's, we need attention from the Devs right now" or "Our professions need attention, too - stop ignoring the entertainers!" "Real Entertainers- we're not just for buffing, we actually *play* this game!" "I want Force Sensitive skills to buff faster, longer, and better!" Keep things as positive as possible, I know we've been frustrated for awhile, but too much negativity might turn off folks who could be willing to take our side in the matter.

Be prepared for negative comments towards us. "Get back in the cantina" and such. Most people totally agree with our problems with our professions, and we have their complete support, but some could care less. Do not satisfy them with a response. Jot their name down in your /notepad and decide later whether you want to provide yourservices to them. Who knows, maybe we'll get a lot more support than we think. Maybe people will listen and watch, and be interested in our cause. I'm sure many will.

Let's get the Entertainer professions in this game back into shape. Our style of gameplay is in serious trouble, and we're treated like we don't exist. We are not a priority to the Devs, and they haven't expressed anything to suggest otherwise. We have had very little additions in regards to content, improvements, and bug fixes(though the Image Designers got a little love recently, even they have some serious issues with their revamp that have yet to be resolved). We need to fit into this game, we need to have a purpose, we need things fixed that have been malfunctioning for a long time (like Entertainer buffs).

Let's stop getting ignored, and get some real attention/content/respect from the Devs -that we can take an active part in developing. Let's inform the playerbase that we're not all AFK'ers. That we care about our style of gameplay. We may not be able to buff or heal outside of a cantina (throw that in as a comment in Spatial maybe - "i'd love to buff and heal you, but buffing outside of the cantina is just one of many suggestions to improve our professions that have been completely ignored by the Devs"). But, we can still perform and put on a great show!

These protests should continue every Tuesday (or whenever the mood strikes you all) until some resemblance of attention to the problems with our professions is given. We need some solid word, not placating comments, that action will be taken by the Devs to improve/fix/enhance our professions.

Thank you for your time, now get out to Theed Starport on Tuesday nights, and let's start the Jam for an Entertainer Revamp!

Look they have already stated when they revamp entertainers it'll be after the expansion... We have a lot that needs to be fixed and it's going to take a while. Our dance moves alone could take a year, they have to do it digitally then put it to real life making it a smoother flow. And to get a good bit of moves done, you're looking at a year peroid; the fact is the are prolly working on it, just can't endulge anyhting yet because it isn't close to being done. Why get someone's hopes up when it'll be a good long time before they see anything being done? The simple thing them trying to find out what kind of missions we'd like is showing that they know we need something done about it. They've got enough to worry about--when we actually for once have totally server stability we'll get things done faster but you see we don't... so stop whining--- it isn't helping.

I am well aware that they *may* be doing something for us at this point. However, they've also stated that pretty much everything will be looked at and fixed "after the expansion." We will, if history is any example, be at the bottom of the totem pole if we take your passive view of "things will get better, we'll wait and see what shows up." I think many of use would just like the simple act of some assurance that there is significant content and gameplay additions in the works for Entertainers. If, however, the community shares your view of "stop whining" (which personally, I felt wassaid in an unnecessarily rude way)then I will stop "whining" and go about my business.

I welcome any constructivefeedback from the community regarding this.

A really great idea!
I am a Dancer myself on Gorath and I will try to get as much ppl to protest, too.
Sadly, I live in Germany and 6pm EST is 12am GMT+1 ... too late for most of the german ppl to join especially if they have to work the other day.
So my question: Is there anything I -or we- could support you with? In any way ...?
Take care, ~Cyn~ ^^

Every profession has problems, some more then others, but I don't think entertainers are one of those. Right now you can do all the things that ents were originally planed to do without any major issues or bugs (except for the recent gating of ID xp). Yours is mainly a RP profession so it shouldn't require as much attention as say the combat professions that are entirely dependent on their abilities and content. Ents are supposed to create their own social content. SoI knowitsucks for you that they put off the Hutt casino and that other social dungeon while adding the corvette and DWB for the combat guys, but they didn't really have a choice, they have to add content based on the numbers. More people would enjoy the corvette thena casino.

Well since there aren't that many ents left, go ahead and have your protest, its not too likely to bring any servers down. I just think you'll look kind of sillyspaming that you want a few skill mods in the FS trees. I've seen the trees on TC, except for the 2 extra experiment points crafters will get, the mods are pretty weak and a lot of people might not be willing to even spend the 1 skill point they take.

I've submitted this news to swg.stratics.com, and they've posted it, so hopefully that'll help generate interest/participation.
(incidentally, the post on the site splices parts of my email with parts of the post, and it makes it sound like the protest was my idea. my email submission to them didn't imply that it was my idea, and I don't want to steal credit. just some unfortunate editing by the news editors there)

I have to agree with the other people... Smugglers are getting a bad rap from the devs.. I feel the smugglers should protest WAY more than entertainers... second behind smugglers i believe is Bounty Hunters.. so called droid bug fix... and the devs actually think a BH can kill jedi.. HAH! but Smuggler i think is the most ignored profession by the devs... pushing back their revamp to fix the "precious jedi"... so the devs decide to put the 3% of players first before the combat revamp and all that other crap.. i guess this post has turned into a rant.. well to sum it up.. smugglers are in a worse position than entertainers..

A Smuggler is an elite profession. An ID is an elite profession. By saying that entertainers gota bunch of new stuff with ID, so we should be happy, that's like saying TKM's are getting Razorknucklers,so Smugglers should be happy. Musician, Image Designer, and Dancer are totally different elite professions off of the Entertainer skill tree. If one wants to be a Dancer or Musician, one needn't even do any of the ID skill boxes. It's a different elite profession. What binds us all together is our style of gameplay, the social aspect of SWG, which has remained stagnant for us for quite a long time. This is akin to ALL combat professions' gameplay remaining stagnant. No new content - no corvette, no death watch bunker, no new weapon schematics, no new missions, nothing.

And if you want to whine about Smugglers getting a revamp, you guys have a forum for that, and besides - you KNOW you're getting a revamp. Please, do NOT misunderstand, one of my alts is a smuggler, and I fully understand how frustrated and upset you guys are- but, at least you've gotten some indication from the Devs that you have a priority for a revamp and it's nearing completion. Heck, one of em was basically begging you guys for forgiveness for delaying your revamp - and rightfully so - they've dragged their feet on you guys for far too long. Our little addition of new content, the Hutt Casino, got brushed aside without much worry on the Devs' part. At least you're getting a revamp - we have no indication our professions aregetting worked on at all, really. There are rumors, but we are told nothing.

Seems you guys and gals got nerfed instead. For some reason, I can't get a musician or dancer buff at the same time anymore since the most recent patch from two different people. I have to get one, then the other, and I lose 10 minutes on my already short-lived buffs.

Or is there a trick to it that I'm missing?

This is but one of the many things that just don't work, but we get no word from anyone about it. Should it work? Is there a way to make it work? Why did it stop working? We have no idea, and no one on the Dev team seems to care or notice we're frustrated by it. It was nerfed by their bizarre fix for the xp gain exploit for entertainers - and now we're stuck becauseno one listens to us. Even better is when you listen and perform for 10 minutes, and get no buff - not necessarily when you're getting dance buffed, too. Or how about playing for 10 minutes and having the person get a really weak buff. That's always fun, too - since we can't buff over current buffs and we wasted both our time and our patron's time.

i agree, but this is not the smuggler's forum - if you guys want a protest, organize one. The purpose of this is not to judge what profession needs fixes more than another, the purpose is that OUR profession is unhappy and we want action. If you guys propose a smugglers protest, I'm there in a heartbeat. My alt is a smuggler. And even if not, I'd still show up, because you guys have been hosed since day 1.

Again, this is not to debate whose profession sucks more, or is broken more, this is to say "We are unhappy and our suggestions and requests fall on deaf ears. We request some reassurance we're not going to be extinct by the time they decide to actually try to make a new song or dance (when in fact we need about 20)".

At least you guys KNOW you're getting a revamp. We're getting a casino sometime late next year, I'm sure - with 1 new song to play. That's not going to help our professions.
