Thread: Gotta love CSRs...

Before this post gets locked or deleted, I was told by the CSR to post, as Devs frequently visit the boards. This is going on both theEnt and Music boards, so sorry for the duplicates. Just wanted y'all to see where we stand.

Background: AFK buffbot in Mining Outpost on Dantooine, with several live Entertainers present. Of course, people were ignoring us, while hitting up the bot. So, I did my civic duty and reported the harrassment, and violation of the ToU.

CSR Reply:

"Greetings Mo'Ste, this is CSR-AaronJ.

Unfortunately, player afk buffing is not against the current user agreement. If an ingame macro allows it, it is permissable by our system as long as spamming is not involved. Thank you for your understanding and have a great day.

Sincerely,

Um... I don't think so... Of course, the 'Add Comment' option was blocked, so I had to submit another ticket. I pointed out how buffbots are a direct threat to our gameplay, spam or not. I also pointed out the Terms of Use (http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/tos.jsp), and how it directly states that "may not use or distribute macros or other programs which would allow unattended game play." I got the following...

"Greetings Mo'Ste,

This is CSRJoshuaM. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. Please be aware that section of the TOS is referring to the use of 3rd party programs. It is possible to make an away from keyboard macro that buffs other players (musican / dancer).

Sincerely,

CSRJoshuaM"

Um... again, I don't think so. This time, I could reply, and so I did. I pointed out that the ToU is very clear on the subject: NO macros or programs for unattended play. Nowhere does it say that while out of game macros and programs that allow unattended gameplay are not allowed, ingame ones that do the same thing are. The base result is the same: Unattended gameplay. I pointed out that while it is POSSIBLE to make ingame macros for unattended play, this was not the intention of macros, thus the upcoming macro nerf. If the ToU was meant to allow ingame macros, but not 3rd party, for the same result, then that's how it would read.

The reply:

"This is CSRJoshuaM. Thank you for responding so quickly to this matter regarding away from keyboard macros. If you wish to propose a change to the terms of service or EULA, please make it known on the forums as development frequently browses those forums.

Sincerely,

CSRJoshuaM"

Really encouraging. I found a game that I enjoy, with a social profession I enjoy. Until now. And they continue to wonder why Entertainers are leaving the cantinas, and becoming more and more rare.

Please forgive the double post.

Well, I agree with you that the buff bots are a pain. But as someone who is currently grinding entertainer I go AFK for long periods of time and therefor cannot totally disagree with it

And as someone who's mastered Dance and Entertainer..twice each..and never played AFK..I can totally disagree with it!

Please stop being in such a rush to master. Please be in a rush to learn the songs and dances, learn your skills! There are those masters who have bothered to learn their professions. Then there are those masters who bother the other masters to teach them how to perform, what flo combinations work where and how to use the skills. Which group do you want to be in?

I've been a Master Entertainer and Musician on Eclipse since Sept of LAST YEAR and did it without macro's. Now that I"m doing it on flurry I'd rather use macro's. How I play my character is no business of yours whatsoever. Also, most ppl use macro's even when they are ATK, so they can socialize and do whatever they want while they are playing. If I'm in a cantina with my friends, but decide I need to grab something from the kitchen, etc, Then what is wrong with me going AFK? I don't know anyone who can say that they don't do that.

I don't do that..never have..never will. I used to work for a game where afk play so unbalanced the player demographics that the devs had to change the code of conduct to outlaw unattended play 3 years after the game went live. Unattended play is bad for games. Players can twist whatever logic they choose to promote that unattended play is good for them or their character at any given time..butthe devs' decisionwill always come down to what is or is not good for the game.

Occasional, temporary AFK is expected. Staying AFK and advancing your character while you're sleeping, at work/school, on vacation, etc. is plainly getting around the time expectation the Devs decided it should take to master. If people continue it, and the Devs don't nerfrecursive macros,I can see them nerfing XP for each flourish. Imagine getting only 4-6 healing XP per tick.

Even then, you still wouldn't really know much about your profession. The Master title doesn't make you a Master.

PLAY the game folks. That's all we ask.

Of course it will change..it has to or the game will simply die. Unattended play is causing more imbalances than those seen in the entertainer professions. What we are left to ponder is, how long will it go on, how many more hits from the nerf bat will we have to take before it is stopped and whoof us willstill be here?

Personally, i had to go AFK for short periods of time because of my job. I'm an RA in the dorms of my college and when i am here i can be called upon to do something. My view is that if you play ATK a vast majority of time, and when you are AFK it is just for a short while it is ok.

When i think of AFK entertainers I think of the people who spend almost all of the time afk. For over an hour at a time.

I've had about 50/50 good/bad experience with CSR's. I've noticed that the first ticket gets answered with an obviously cut & paste reply the first time telling you to do the formula things to solve your situation. (Things that are straight from the KB search that you had to to in order to submit the ticket in the first place.)

By the 3rd or 4th ticket submission (referring back to the previous tickets each time) you usually get a CSR from the United States who will actually work with you to solve the problem, sometimes they'll even /tell you in-game to discuss it,and they'll often leave the ticket open for you to comment so they can come back later to see if your issue has been resolved.

Eventually all the tickets I've made have been answered to my satisfaction, but the experience in getting there usuallyisn't much fun.

Oh and yes, the most annoying thing that one of these CSR's can do is close the ticket before you get a chance to reply to it...thus forcing you to go through the trouble of another KB search andhaving to quotethe previous ticket. /shudder

What ?? Gonna be a while ? what does that mean NJ ? should I quit now and come back next year ? I want a freakin timeline on how far down the road this macro change is going to happen.

After JtL. After Combat Revamp.

After anything else in the game besides us is taken care of and working properly.

The only people I would have NO problem going ahead of us for some desperately needed changes is Smugglers. Because, man they need help horribly.

We're looking at mid 2005 at the earliest, I'd say. Just me guesstimating.

Trust me, we're not any kind of priority. But eventually they might get around to helping our professions, once 50% of the live Entertainers who enjoy this have quit.

All I can say is, keep fighting the good fight, chin up, and we'll do our best to try and get this junk resolved as acommunity.

I just look forward to some glorious month where we won't have some Robot Entertainer post:

"I play my game the way I want to, don't tell me how to play my game." We're not telling anyone how to play their game, we're telling people to PLAY THE GAME.

See the difference?

Not HOW to play the game. Just PLAY the game. That is all.
