Well im on of those jedi wannabes and my crystal said to master this. And since im filthy rich i give all tips i get to the real dancers and musicians around.

The problem is i cant compete with a female dancer. So what do you recommend to a male character having to dance?

Anything i can do to get the XP or am i stuck taking a slower xp run because of my gender.

You can share the healing XP if you group with the other dancers, and you'll also get a bonus to dancing XP for grouping.

The trick is to, as Wemi said, join the same group as the female dancer.

Besides that, make sure you have a couple sharp lookin' outfits. It helps presentation a little.

Another way is to play up the "strengths" of a male dancer. *Some* female dancers tend to get a lot of attention by dressing skimpy and flirting. I've found that male dancers can get a bit of attention by looking macho. I tend to get a lot of comments/attention by dancing holding melee weapons (even if you have no melee skills, you can still hold any weapon you want, it'll just give you a message about not being proficient with that weapon).

You'll find that a lot of the dance animations are a little different when holding weapons. (ie: Try holding a combat staff while dancing - your character will twirl the staff during some flourishes.) My favorite is to hold a curved sword while doing formal 1/2. It looks just like a martial artist going through sword forms. It tends to make guys feel a little more macho to watch that than a guy just twirling around on the floor.

Think a lot of it just depends on where you are at/what galaxy and who strolls into the Cantina. I'm a Master Entertainer with just 3 boxes in Musician on Starsider. I play only in the Theed cantina on Naboo (so far... looking forward to moving into a player city cantina). For a long while (read several weeks) I didn't get any tips at all. Then since Saturday I've been making about 1.5k for every hour I play. Not too bad for me.

I try to keep my appearance interesting (black pants, black jacket, a rotation of different colored shirts (red, blue, green, white) and I also change my sunglasses to match the color of the shirt) and I don't always just do what gives me the most experience. I am capable of playing a higher instrument and get more exp, but I play my mondovial to make myself standout. You can do the same with dances. Some of the dances are terrible looking (ie: footloose), so go with something more appealing to look at. Or, make your footloosing into a comedy show.

Basically, the more unique you are, the more you'll get noticed/tipped. Just dancing around and not saying anything or catching people's attention isn't going to yield tips.

The trick is to wear hot pants. Then you get attention!

Male Dancer, playing up the open vest jacket is very common, although now shirtless may even be viable for a few dances.

Have a few outfits though.

If you're going muscian, probably the best thing you can get is SWG Collector's Edition for the glasses. They may be a bit common, but they do so work for many instruments.

I cannot say for sure. but when I used to heng out in the cantina in coronet (still do some times) I would get tipped plenty. Many dont tip you if your afk. some tip you for your looks. some tip you for your skills some tip the high some tip the low ... as a dancer I go for the sexy guy... oh and I am a rodian

with mu blue chest free of clothes.. some shorts and maybe sandals. I myself use the headwear when dancing, but not when playing music. oh and I totaly agree they should make some more macho dances only dance that looks better on male than female's is the poplock. all others are very much female related. I would love for some cool dances that us guys could do indeed.

*Works his way through the crowd of adoring female fans*

Sorry about that, got delayed...Okay, something anyone who know me will tell ya I know all about.... How to get attention...

Clothes - This whole idea of "less is more" with regard to clothing is nonsense. Take the ladies for example... As you can imagine I have spent a lot of time in cantinas, studying female dancers, all on a totally professional basis, of course... and I have to say I'd watch a well played lady in a sparkling gown everytime than somekid who spends all her days in the same fleshwrap, or nothing but underwear etc. and no offense, but they have nothing unique about em, ya seen emonce yaseen em all. Yes there is a place for fleshwraps etc. in a dancers armoury, but not 24x7.

Now me... I've worn shorts about twice, danced shirtless about4 or 5times, and worn hotpants on one occasion - and that's only as a bit of fun with my dancer-girl friends. If a customer asks me to dance shirtless, then I will do, but I dont do it for the sake of it - because it doesnt make ya special. By keeping covered up and dressing well, there's more to the imagination, leave the ladies WANTING to see more so much they have to ask ya to go shirtless (some even tip for it *grins*)

Now yes, on the face of it we dont get nearly as much to choose from as ladies. Personally I like the Casual slacks and trim lined shirts a lot - and have that combo in a lot of colours, and tend to change my clothes frequently. Add to that a few jackets, some striped slacks and muscle shirts here and there, and I have enough in the pack to look pretty fresh on the dance floor.

So if it aint the clothes... what is it that makes you different? Easy... Personality! Greet those that come in, talk to them and your fellow entertainers, get a friendly atmosphere going. Dont expect them all to talk back to you, but dont let that put you off either. Take the stage (but show respect to your peers), I usually announce my entry with a rhyme or two, just to say "Hey guys, Im here and Im not AFK!" *grins* Thank anyone who gives you a tip - dont announce your disappointment of not getting tips out loud, and dont setup begging macros asking for money.

Believe me, in a straight "attention fight" between me and some little AFK chippie in her underwear, I win easily, by being there, working the crowd and showing Im working.

That said, yeah there's plenty of players out there that will watch the girls, every time (all guys of course *grins*) Ya just have to accept it - but like has been said already in this thread, if you get in an entertainer group, it doesnt matter who in the group gets watched/listened to, you ALL get xp, and as a group you get more - so that is the key.

I dont think I ever suffered from xp loss being male - tips definately, but not xp.

As an OOC note - As you can no doubt tell, I RP Yand, and as a full-time career dancer. So what I said may or may not fit with your plans. I hope at least some of it was of use.

I hope you do intend to play your char whilst dancing, not leaving it AFK like so many are doing, especially the ones who have to master these skills to satisfy your holocron. Mainly because, you will be missing out on so much if you aren't there. It's great fun if you put yourself into it! good luck!

Yes.. Wear hotpants... some white boots, white gloves and go shirtless. Become the leader of the group, that way everyone knows who you are. I only did this to have fun and after awhile I noticed even guys watching me. (uhhhhhh). But you can also do the hotpants thing with a swooper helmet and an open vest for a Chip n Dales look.

Ladies beware.. come to the Theed cantina on Sunrunner for some of this =D
