Thread: singing = spam?
I generally space my use out a little bit (at least long enough for the last song to fade from screen for a min or two).
So basically you are saying that while you are at the cantina, I have to use 1-2 minute windows to converse with mycustomers because the rest of the time you will spam the chat ?
I can understand why people are angry. You are stringing together these songs way to fast. A song every hour or half is really great and people will listen to you. If they cannot talk at all because you are singing all the time... that's more than annoying in a place that's set up for socializing. Take bigger breaks. At least 15 minutes.

Well, last night there was probably 4 AFK entertainers, 3 or so LIVE entertainers,a doc or two, & a smattering of shall we call them Customers. there were periods fo at least 5-10 min. where NOBODY said anything. I was not constatnly running my songs & there was lotsa crickets chirping. Yet i still got abused by someone over the songs.
now if this guy was sitting there doing G-mail & or tell heck why was hei in a public GATHERING place where he can expect to get spammed?
as a place to RP or even socialize one shouldexpect to have to "shout" over the crowd noise (tell me you've never been to a crowded bar/restaurant).

You're an entertainer, right? If people aren't entertained by it, I'd stop. I do tend to agree that in a busy cantina it's just annoying when people are conversing and someone starts their long macro of lyrics.
That's just it People are entertained by it.. i get a lot more compliments than i do complaints. i've gotten some REALY nice tips because they liked the song.
it's just that it seems like once a night i get some JERK who thinks its cool to spam me with violent emotes & 20 separate (a steady stream) of the same "shut the **** up" spacial chat. Youknow if they would RESPECTFULLY ask me to give it a break (Sending me a polite tell...) I would be happy to. It's yet to happen though. just insults/abuse.

I think the solution here is: Some people are just jerks.
If you're responsible with your songs, then screw the jerks. You admit that you only do songs when things are quiet. As long as they aren't repeated every 5 minutes and don't take up ten lines of chat, I don't see the problem. Some people have to say something. When I sell pets, I adhere to the unwritten CH code (1k cost per CL). So when I'm selling a cu pa for 11k, some jerk has to come along and say, "I got mine for 3k. Look at his tricks. I can't believe you're really considering this. You must be a complete moron!"
Sure, that may be RPing. But more than likely, it's a punk kid who looks at his lucky break and makes fun of others for not having that break. Same for you. Maybe someone was RPing a jerk walking into a bar and insisting the music stops. More than likely, it's a punk kid who wants to call you a moron.
I sing too, and someone (a master Musician lol) told me I spam people... When I asked why, he told me to make a longer pause between lyrics. So I put a longer pause in my lyrics and I have no others 'spam' accusations.
But if someone told you he didn't like your songs just tell him to /addignore you !Usually they keep insulting you, so I put them myself in ignore list.
And don't forget to use /dump to stop your song if needed. (Works well to find the good tempo)

Oh, the non-RPers often THINK it's spam... but then I think their /shout - in - all - caps "WILL TRAIN ALL SCOUT AND MARKSMANS KILLS FOR FREE!!" macros are spam too.
There's an easily solution for both me, and them: /ignore. If they don't like it they can /ignore you.

I'm approaching ME & MM & i have developed a reportois (sp?) of about 22 songs I have developed as aliases for use in game. I generally space my use out a little bit (at least long enough for the last song to fade from screen for a min or two). but i do sing a lot. I also try to NOT repeat songs especially when the patronage has not changed out yet. Mostly I sing in Cantinas (though i have been known to sing while waiting on shuttles). NOW here's the Kicker...
I have FREQUENTLY gotten people yelling at meto **edit**, jumped on, slapped, punched in the face, etc. it seems at least once a night someone takes serious offence at me singing in a cantina.
Oh yeah.. I make some AWESOME money (relatively speaking :leia
in tips, Mostly due to my singing
Are there many other singers out there? Have you experienced this? How should one respond to this?

Yes, I have experienced this. Especially early on when I used to sing almost every chance I got. Never occurred to me that people would see it as spam, but so much so that it used to drive some poeple (including performers) out of the cantina.
So these days I reserve songs for gigs, quiet times in the cantina (and also quiet outside so I am not clogging up spatial), private with friends, rehearsals, and after being severely shouted at for singing at a shuttleport I only sing there if it is apractically deserted place, otherwise just music and dance.
Hope that helps comfort youknowing you aren't alone
At first I used to get really upset that people didn't appreciate the singing, but from their side if they are not actively 'listening' (i.e. reading) the song, it IS just spam.
Hell, the other day in Moenia I had someone running around shouting for me to shut up because I was emoting and interacting with the customers 'too much'. They objected to their screen being full of K'vera this K'vera that. Personally I'm a social rper so if the place is dead, she will try to liven it up.
All I can say is try having someone else sing a few songs when you are doing something else, and see it from their side
Yes some people love them, but on the serverI play on at least, the majority don't want their spatial full up of song.
Oh, neglected to say that as my singing and emoting was a bother for some, I moved to the local hotel instead for a time. If you can stick it and maintain a following then it's a great performing stage for songs. I still go back and perform sets every so often. But it does cut out a large portion of socialising unless people know you are there.
