Our musicians were mentioning last night how they raise their music skill so much lower than dancers, because they can hardly ever use their highest level song since we are always letting younger entertainers to join us. Last night we were going to let a couple of players join us who only had star wars 1, but we asked them to go in the back of the room and practice so that everyone else could use music 3. This would've let them get the bonus xp, but not be heard. Well, they didn't like that idea and they started a group of young musicians/dancers (prostitutes *moan*) right in front of us. Didn't matter that much about their group, because everyone in that city knows us and comes there to hear us, but have any other musicians been running into this type of situation?

The cool thing about being a musician is that you get your max XP when you either play your highest song, or play WITH your highest instrument. They changed this in the latter stagest of Beta 3, so that you could play with StarWars1 and still get your max XP. The dancers unfortunately do not have this advantage, but it's OK because we don't all have to dance the same dance because there's no conflicting noises. :-) I'm not sure if this is documented because it changed so close to the release date...I could be wrong, but I definitely remember reading it in one of the patch updates in Beta. Try it out!

craft....you get the slitherhorn schematic for a reason =)

I bought novice entertainer and crafted them while I checked my harvesters. I was so far ahead in music xp by the time I got back to the cantina, I had to leave again to buy music1.

i've found that actually playing music for exp is worthless, i have a few 10k metal or so, just pumping out slitherhornes is fastest way to lvl, i find playing music for people fun, but you can only play starwars 1 so many times...

I've made it to starwars 2 so far, and slowly working my way to folk . Whenever a young musician enters I just ask them what their highest or favorite is and we jam on that. It's all about the fun being had for everyone involved...nothing worse than going into a cantina and having 2 or 3 groups of entertainers doing their own thing I think.

Should be in unison, working together for harmony. The only thing I do not like is the people who use a macro suggesting tips every 5 seconds. But I like to avoid confrontation so I just tell em to chill on the macro a bit, nobody different has entered for like 10 minutes.

Have fun playing music, you'll get to the next level eventually, I don't care if I'm first, I care about makign friends with other musicians as I go so we can start a huge band oen day playing in the theater guild halls .

For the moment everyone is only a song or two apart though in most cantinas. I seriously doubt novice musicians will be willing to widdle away at their next 150,000 xp skill by playing star wars I... hehe This isn't as much of a problem at the moment as it will be in a couple weeks, and imagine a month from now. I do hope they change it someday so that musicians can play any song and still get the highest xp - it is the only thing that makes sense. Would be nice if dancing worked the same way, I don't want to have to do the same dance over and over for 150-300k at a time. hehe

The biggest proble for me is that the Entertainment Healing XP to Musician XP is so off balanced. I gained Entertainment Healing 2 before i got to Musicain 1. It's insane.

I posted a workaround inside a post i did on the disscussion forum. But to let higher and lower level musicians/entertainers group.....

All musicians ungroup, everyone start playing thier highest song, get reinvited back into the group and you will continue to play the song you were currently playing. When someone runs out of stam, after they are full, let them disband or /kick them let them start thier song again and away ya go.
The sound is awful, but it does work. As you can see, you can do the grouping thing in several different ways, it is just up to you, however you prefer.
Hope this helps a bit...I am hoping they will fix it so that we musicians can get full xp (in a group) by playing the highest song of the lowest member, or to make it really simple, just make it so that when a group of musicians are together, you get max xp for any song you are playing.

Musicians get their max XP when they play EITHER their highest song OR their highest instrument. So you could be playing SW 1 with an Omni Box, and still get your max XP. (At least that's how it was at the very end of beta....I'm pretty sure that's how it is now.)

not that way now unfortunately...sounds nice tho. I just got Folk tonight and am lovin it...also getting 16xp per if I keep up with the flourishes. But if I play my old song I get 14...not much less and yeah it would add up. But still I say who cares. The only reason I'd ever want to play my new song is for a change for our audience. Bands that play the same song for hours on end. That is starting to get to me, esp when they refuse to play another song, even when they know 3.

Were you playing your older song with the Fanfar? That is your highest instrument when you get Folk (MusicIII)

just got my fanfar actually, and its still that way with starwars2 (goes lower per song) but with folk its 16. Same xp with teh fizzz or the slitherhorn too. So i think its the song not the instrument.
