Thread: just curious does gender matter to you..ex male in RL roleplaying a female entertainer?
Hello all:
Just curious, doesnt bother me any cause this is after all a role playing game, just wanted to see what your thoughts were. I have come across quite a few male players roleplaying female entertainers and other professions, and was really surpirsed on how well they play their roles, i think it adds to the fun, while some of my friends seem to think its wrong
Well as long as they are telling the people their a girl in RL its fine
I am a chik char and im a guy in RL
i make sure everyone know im a guy cause i HATE being hit on by other guys
I assume the character is a character and not the person playing him, at all times. Play whatever character you want however you want it. That's fine.

There are guys who are mutating into scaley close combat killers, rat-like snipers, oversized teddies, fascist oppressing militaristsand cold blooded killers. And someone has a problem with a guy playing a woman ? To me, thats exactly that: his problem. Not mine. It's a roleplaying game. Some people don't have enough fantasy to play roles or toimagine other people can actually seperate between role and reality. It's a shame that there is no way to keep them out... maybe hand them a copy of the next best gory, violant, bloody first person shooter... that might be better suited and keep them away ![]()
If anyone wants to know if I'm a girl in real life ( funny, no one ever asked my sniper if he was a guy in real life... ) I'll tell them the truth. I'm as much a girl as you are a gun-totting Zabrak Bounty Hunter.
Most people don't care much for IRL. Some do and can live with any role I play. Some have problems with people playing another gender. Their close-mindedness and/or sexual insecurity is theirproblem.
( That said, I can understand if parents don't want to expose their kids to people who act their sexual fantasies out in SWG. If someone asks me if I'm into domination and if I want to dance for him naked ( standing at the bank dressed in normal jacket and pants, that offer caught me by surprise ), thats not necessarily PG13. But if that's the role he wants to play it's cool with me. I'd just say No. )
There is a nice tread in the RP forum about "guys playing girls" in may find interesting.

Doesn't matter to me, until I get that good looking female Twi'lek calling me gay for flirting because she's actually a guy in real life.
Male dancers have it great /sarcasm off
As long as it's RP it's all good..right??

There are already people who have stated how I feel on this.
I RP a female. I have fun with it. It's also fun beating back the advances (in some cases). Of course, that's easy for me to say because I'm male in RL. I know that women who put up with this 7 days a week don't find this activity fun.
There are people who don't distinguish between a game and real life. While the bounty-hunter-in-real-life argument is very true, some of these people just don't get that clue. They freak out at cross-gender playing, period. I pick my online friends carefully. I have to really enjoy talking with this person and figure he/she is mature enough to be my friend. I have to protect my investment of time carefully.
I did have someone who seemed fairly mature freak out on me. When I read his e-mail to me,I see why. He was hoping to start up some relationship. Even though I never flirted with him, he apparently had these little thoughts and fantasies spring up about us. It opened my eyes a bit. I saw what a lot of real-life women go through when guys expect more than what reality allows.
Because of these people, I purposely crafted my character's personality to be more aloof when it comes to males. She is not flirtatious. She is a simple farm girl who has more important things to worry about than finding a husband. So I turn a cold shoulder to all advances. Of course, some advances are RPing, so I RP the cold shoulder in all cases.
But yes, I never assume that a female character is played by a female. I'll treat that person like a female. I say "she" and such. If I had a flirtatious male character, I'd flirt with "her." But since I'm not playing SWG to find a romance, I'm not going to go beyond that.
Of course, I have 16 years of online experience, so I've learned a long time ago to differentiate between text on a screen and a real person. *sob* I just now realized I've been online longer than most of these players have been alive. I'm going to go shoot myself now.
