Thread: Binding Droids to your house

I have a proposal for letting people (even non-DE's) have more than one droid out at a time.

How about letting you bind droids to your house. Similar to the way you can offer soldiers and AT-ST's to faction bases. These droids could not leave your house but can be used in the same manner as a called droid. This would open up alot of possibilities. Allowing you to keep a repair droid and a power droid in your house so that you can fix and power up your probot for example. Or you could have a protocol droid in there (doesn't really do anything now but might later on).

You could set them on patrol so that they look like they're actually doing something even when you're not there.

To get them back you would go to your structure management terminal and select an option like Aquire and that would give you a list of all the droids that you can retreave to your datapad.

That's not a bad idea. I've had a few people ask for a protocol droid they could keep in their house. When I tell them I can make them a chassis that juust stands there, they are a little disappointed. They wanted something that could actually do something, mostly merchants who wanted to greet customers. Usually they settle on the chassis anyway since the basic protocol (I'm not Master yet) doesn't have any functions anyway.

Keeping a power droid or a repair droid at home would be excellent. I can see it's function extending to overseeing maintenance of the structure and possibly any vendors within.

Exactly, and you could expand on this system if implemented. I don't think it would be a terribly hard thing to implement either. Mostly just reused game code. Allthough I might be wrong.

Something like this could also be expanded on and included in the use of player cities. This would be a great way for the Mayor and Milita to add roaming droids in the cityscape, or in municiple buildings.

This hearkens back to an idea I helped kick around back in the 'DE Structures' thread, that of a 'structure datapad'.

I want to be able to drag droids (up to a structure-specific DL limit) onto a structure's datapad, and have them act as you suggest from binding them to buildings.

A small house should probably be able to take at most one astromech or a small fleet of mice, whereas a PA hall could probably host a 3PO, a surgical, and an astromech or three. Combat droids could be tied to faction bases, too, for an extra defensive boost.

I would be happy if it would just work as faction bases to begin with. I mean they have the code right there, it shouldn't be too hard to implement it to houses as well and allow for droids instead of troops. Or just let you bind troops to the house as well.

This shouldn't be too hard to do and the benefits are really good. You could do it by adding restraining bolts as a craftable item in the DE skill tree. You would then call a droid while inside a house you have admin rights too, open your inventory, drag a restraining bolt over the droid and voila, your droid is now bound to this structure and can be used just like a normal droid.

The biggest benefit with this is being able to have a repair droid in your own house and thereby repair your own droids, or a power droid to power up the one you're currently using.

Also for harvesters you could program the restraining bolt to contain the waypoints to the harvesters you would like a droid to manage. The droid then would manage power and maintenance for those harvesters.

This could open up endless possibilities.

GREAT idea indeed... lets just hope the devs see this so why not try to keep it on top until Monday?

With luck "someone" will notice it.

Can someone post a link to that "DE structures" Thread? I remember reading that a few months back, and it had some really good ideas in it. I tried searching for it, but im no good at it. i agree as well. I think that Droids should have a much bigger role with structures and vehicles in this game. I think that when the space expansion comes out too, not only should droids be used in X-wings and the like, but they should be able to go around maintenancing ships, like the Millenium Falcon for example. Dont you remember seeing R2 fix the hyperdrive and other stuff too? I think they could have a lot more uses, more practical ones. This would give an easy seller by DE's that does not involve the stupid "balancing" of combat droids and Pokem...I mean creature pets. They could pretty easily do this, without a huge debate. I dont know about anyone else, but I dont have any opposition to this, and please state it if you do......with your reasons. I cant see why you wouldnt want a power droid powering a structure or a repair or Rx droid maintenancing you house. But also maybe im blind and deaf....Who knows.....

Good Luck with all these great ideas, last time we did like 1000 posts on this and the DEV's prolly never even read it, since none of them were implemented or they never even gave a reason why they shouldn't be. Happy Holidays as well!

Agreed! Great idea. I've actually had clients ask me if they could get a couple of MSE droids to just "run around" their houses! Right now the only way customers can display droids is to have a droid frame as furniture.

Yeah I see a lot of people use BLL Framesas statues, or just have them patrol around with an Ad name. I use frames in my house. But I should be able to have a droid, not a frame do something useful.
