Thread: Binding Droids to your house
I really like this, it would be really nice and shouldn't be a balance problem since the droids are just going to be in your house. No big deal there, it's a small advantage in that you can repair and recharge but it's nothing huge. Just cool to have =)
I think that a house-tied droid, set on patrol, is a great idea and would help add a lot of immersion and cool factor.
I'd love to see this happen but, to be honest, we DO still have a lot of great ideas on our plate. Where does this one fall, you think, everyone?

Since it is possible already with current game functionaility - it should rank high on the list for a new feature.
Easy to implement, Star Warsy, Practical, adds no new capabilities - yet enhances gameplay.
I'd put this one under more droids in our datapad as DEs, and above new chasis on my list of preferred features.
A functioningdroid sure looks better than the bulky crafting stations for example, in a home....
It's interesting that you mention "new chassis". That request was pretty high up on the list of items that people wanted when I did my Top 5 poll many weeks back.
Would you say this feature really eclipses the ability to build more types of new droids?

Here's the quick notes I have on this idea:
- A 2nd droid could be called from any player'sDatapad, specifically for the purpose of being a patrol-bot/immersion-bot insidea structure.
- This would be 'special case' pet call, and would still allow all other pet calling rules to be as they are now.
- The droid would retain any of it's currently installed functionality during it's time 'working' in your structure(?).
- How one would keep such a droid powered for permanent use in the structure is unclear, since it seems that this would never fly if people had to be running back to their houses to add a battery once every hour. I'd think that a longer-life power source would have to be involved.
- Perhaps, to help aid this idea to fruition on this idea, a few added things:
- The droid might require that a "Structure Restraining Bolt module" be installed, with somekind of Arch part needed. This helps add tosome of thecrafting interdependence that the Devs would like to see go up (so it might help to sell this idea).
- The GCW revamp might benefit from this idea of the 'homeBot' could have a factioned module that DEs could craft. Perhaps something like an 'Alliance Comm module' or 'Imperial Network module' that could notify factioned players of GCW related events, missions, etc.
This is all just sorta blue-sky stuff right now, but I think this idea could be very popular for players of all styles (which is likely key to getting it 'sold').

You know...the more and mroe than I think about this, I think it holds a ton of potential 'water' for us, and for other aspects of the game.

I Disagree with limiting it per player - limit it per structure. We could USE more reasons to sell droids, not more limits. Maybe it could plug into the structure for power - and add a 'Add Power' option to the structure - like harvesters to provide the power for such things. This also relies on existing code for the most part too.

As for special use - Make a bound droid permanent - only destroyable. It can't leave the structure....

See above comment for power suggestion...
