I really like this, it would be really nice and shouldn't be a balance problem since the droids are just going to be in your house. No big deal there, it's a small advantage in that you can repair and recharge but it's nothing huge. Just cool to have =)

Just a bump for an old thread.

I would really really really really really like to see this happen. But then again there are thousands of things that droid engineers and people in general would like to see fixed concerning droids.

Well...looks like someone necro'd this one pretty well.

I think that a house-tied droid, set on patrol, is a great idea and would help add a lot of immersion and cool factor.

I'd love to see this happen but, to be honest, we DO still have a lot of great ideas on our plate. Where does this one fall, you think, everyone?

Since it is possible already with current game functionaility - it should rank high on the list for a new feature.

Easy to implement, Star Warsy, Practical, adds no new capabilities - yet enhances gameplay.

I'd put this one under more droids in our datapad as DEs, and above new chasis on my list of preferred features.

A functioningdroid sure looks better than the bulky crafting stations for example, in a home....

Rogue,

It's interesting that you mention "new chassis". That request was pretty high up on the list of items that people wanted when I did my Top 5 poll many weeks back.

Would you say this feature really eclipses the ability to build more types of new droids?

I would say that this should be over the new chassis, since there hasn't been any indication that the devs are looking at adding any chassis until after J2LS. This to me indicates that a large request (from the perspective of coding/art/tying animation/resource research/interactions with specific modules in combination) like the new chassis would be low-rankedbecause of developer resources being scarce.

However, this appears to be able to use existing code, would not necessarily require new craftable research with resources, wouldn't require art or animations, would provide atmosphere and immersion easily, wouldn't be unbalancing, wouldn't introduce module-to-module issues with chassis, and would provide usefulness to a large portion of the player base.

Since this would be more attractive to the devs and those who apportion developer time, this would be a much more likely candidate for a fast acceptance.

That's why I'd rate it high.

You know...the more and mroe than I think about this, I think it holds a ton of potential 'water' for us, and for other aspects of the game.

Here's the quick notes I have on this idea:

  • A 2nd droid could be called from any player'sDatapad, specifically for the purpose of being a patrol-bot/immersion-bot insidea structure.

  • This would be 'special case' pet call, and would still allow all other pet calling rules to be as they are now.

  • The droid would retain any of it's currently installed functionality during it's time 'working' in your structure(?).

  • How one would keep such a droid powered for permanent use in the structure is unclear, since it seems that this would never fly if people had to be running back to their houses to add a battery once every hour. I'd think that a longer-life power source would have to be involved.

  • Perhaps, to help aid this idea to fruition on this idea, a few added things:

    1. The droid might require that a "Structure Restraining Bolt module" be installed, with somekind of Arch part needed. This helps add tosome of thecrafting interdependence that the Devs would like to see go up (so it might help to sell this idea).

    2. The GCW revamp might benefit from this idea of the 'homeBot' could have a factioned module that DEs could craft. Perhaps something like an 'Alliance Comm module' or 'Imperial Network module' that could notify factioned players of GCW related events, missions, etc.

This is all just sorta blue-sky stuff right now, but I think this idea could be very popular for players of all styles (which is likely key to getting it 'sold').

The restraining bolt addition is a good idea. Further more you could add some more architect furniture which could be a requirement for having bound droids in your house. For example a powerstation for the droids, which keeps the droids powered up. I agree that having to use bateries in a droid that's always in your house is a bit silly. They should be able to get power directly from the house via a powerstation. And of course there should be some sort of terminal to interact with the restraining bolt to keep the droids in line. These don't have to do anything really, no special coding involved, they would only be a requirement for having bound droids. Also one of those lil oil tub thingies that Luke soaked R2-D2 and C3PO in. It could either function as a healing station for droids or simply to keep them well maintained.

The code for binding them to the house should be pretty much the same as the code for binding faction pets to a base, allthough it would have to allow them to retain their commands, like patrol or something like that.

I don't think we should nessecarily limit the bound droids to only 1 per structure. Some might want to have a power droid, a repair droid, ad barker or any of the utility droids. Heck, the more droids the merrier. It's not like it's gonna unbalance anything since these droids aren't really going anywhere.

I have to agree with the above poster. New Chasis is a pipe dream at the moment, we all accept and know that now.... We're going to have to wait for that. Maybe this is something that can be done easily now. This is a cool feature, a definate idea to consider that doesn't seem that hard to implement in our minds. No art work needed, not a ton of coding, nobody from the art teams need to be pulled from JTL to work on it....

As always it also fits under our main battle cry since launch -Droids areStar Warsy....

Having an interactive home/shop environment utilizing 'bound' droids is just a cool idea - period.

Imagine a merchant with a bound Barker droid in his shop - greeting cusomers or telling them about specials.A droid shop with a usable Power droid in your droid shopto recharge your customers droids.Place abound stim-botto keep the entertainers healed a tad longer or heal them back up faster in Player Cantina's. Crafting ability is anotherobvious use here, but there are so many other things that can make this idea cool - for everyone, not just us....

I Disagree with limiting it per player - limit it per structure. We could USE more reasons to sell droids, not more limits. Maybe it could plug into the structure for power - and add a 'Add Power' option to the structure - like harvesters to provide the power for such things. This also relies on existing code for the most part too.

  • This would be 'special case' pet call, and would still allow all other pet calling rules to be as they are now.

As for special use - Make a bound droid permanent - only destroyable. It can't leave the structure....

  • The droid would retain any of it's currently installed functionality during it's time 'working' in your structure(?).

See above comment for power suggestion...

Tk, I honestly think this would be great towards the top of the list.

Small House, 1 Droid

Medium House, 2 Droids

Large House, 4 Droids

The reason I think this would be good towards the top of the list is that it helps a lot of our other issues.

1. DE's would get slammed to make more droids. No they wouldn't be repeat business, but we would sell droids.

2. Power and Repair Droids would harve a purpose, you could set them to your house, then charge your other droids.

3. Demand for other chasis would be high.

Not as important as bug fixing of course, but this would be great for the game.
