Thread: What is up with no /tip for training?!?!?
I don't want to go off on a rant here [(c) D. Miller], but OMFG - would it kill someone to /tip you to train them. I just paid for a skill in full and some person comes by, asks me to train them and then doesn't even /tip me for the ELITE skill training. Did I get it for free? NO. Am I hurting for cash... NO. Is that the point? NO.
Jeebus - have a little f-in respect. People have no honor.
Ask if they wanna split the cost of the skill (even if you have it). Walk over to trainer and act like you learned skill.
Don't have a title under your name btw.
It's the kind of thing that we shouldn't have to ask for though. I'm sorry, that's just a d*ck move.
For those of you getting freebie training out there - have a freakin' spec of respec and at least make the OFFER to /tip someone for training. They work hard to earn their money - just like you.
The way I handle training is like this. If you want basic artisan skills fine I'll train you.
However when it comes to elite DE skills I don't train anybody. Call me rotten, but by training people I'm just taking away my future customers. I really don't care to have dozens of DE's running around my planet and if I train them (especially for free) I'm just going to erode my market share.
I'm sure some will want to flame me for saying this, but from the viewpoint of a merchant it just doesn't make sense to add competitors to your market!
I personally never ask nor expect someone to /tip me for training. I dont mind helping an up and comming DE out. Sure, i may have had to pay for much of my training, doesnt mean i should make them pay for theirs. I believe every time i had trained someone they appreciated it alot. Thats enough for me.
Also, training others gets you the points required to become a MDE. They're actually doing you a favor.
Gimps, I dont know what server you are on, butI dont advertise nor utilize a vendor all that much and I get more business by way of /tell's or e-mails than I can handle.
Your not going to stop up and comming DE's. Thats SOE's job. You will always find a market.
Well I'm already a Master so there's really nothing in it for me. I didn't always have this attitude but about 3 weeks ago a novice DE sent me a /tell asking if I'd train him in blueprints. I said ok, but I'd want 1k credits for it (since I shelled out money for the skills, this is a nominal fee). He then preceeded to start swearing and cussing at me saying it was my obligation to teach him for free because I had the skillsand he didn't.
So one bad egg ruins it for everyone in mymind. I gain nothing from teaching anyway so why waste the time to do it?
For those who are not yet Masters it's the only way to go though, and hopefully when you train someone they have the courtesy and decency to tip you. If they don't just never teach them again...
I'm not forcing anyone to pay me - it's a respect thing. I put in my time to make the cash and xp to pay for the training. I shouldn'thave to ask someone to do a little bit of work if I train them - am I their training b*tch or something?
For the record - I didn't say boo to this person when I trained them. Just /bow'd and said good luck. They said "always glad when I can find someone to train me"... so I said, "Yeah, it's a pain sometimes - I had to pay for that very same skill..." - what'd I get after that - "OK, see ya then."
Thanks a bunch buddy. Really hope you read this thread and know you're a cheapskate heal.
Man, I'm bitter tonight. I need to get to bed. Sorry if my greed has offended anyone. Perish the thought that someone would share training costs.
Yeah Gimpy - I had the same experience a ways back, which is exactlywhy I don't ask for a /tip whenever I train someone in anything (I never expectnor wanta /tip for Basic skills - although I always made it a point to at least /tip someone that trained me whenever I needed it).
Someone said I'd ruined their image of how a multiplayer game should be - that I'm a greedy a-hole and I should rot in hell. Thanks to you too buddy.
Ya, I still train the basic skills though because they're used by mostly noobs who sometimes need that helping hand and just can't afford a few hundred credits.
However when you get to an elite profession you're accustomed to the game and should have some form of income, hence you can tip for training.
If someone says you're greedy because you won't train for free, point out to that person that they're just as greedy for wanting to get something for nothing ![]()
*On a side note I don't think any half intelligent DE is in this for the money or greedy. If they really were greedy they'd of moved onto a profession that works and has some decent money in it*
K well I'm a master CH so I get spammed 24/7. Well people ask me everything from "do you have any non CH pets for sale" to "GIMME MONEY PLZ!" . And some people ask for training so i train them unless i have somewhere to be and then they usually just disband and then run away, but sometimes you get a person that tips you and says thanks. So it's really just people who tip and say thank you from people who just run away and disband the point is people need training and being a master (or close to master) of your profession means u have a responsibility to train these people no matter what.
Ps. I came to these boards looking for something about speeders but noooooooooooo gr ! lol
Hmmmm... There is such a difference in what people expect it seems.
Personaly, when someone asks to me teach them something (and when I ask to BE tought) my assumption is that the XP gained from teaching them is payment enough considering its the ONLY way to get XP for hitting master.
Medics don't generaly ask for tips when healing, why should anyone ask or expect a tip for teaching? Fact is.. if you don't specificaly say "sure I will teach you this skill for x amounts of credits" then expect to be tipped. Especialy considerng there are many people around willing to teach for free.
