Hi

As my signature shows I am a Master DE on Europe-Chimaera and have been for several months. I went for DE as I enjoyed the fact that all my orders were custom ones, aside from a small stock of BH droids, so everytime I made something it was unique to the players needs. I enjoyed customising the orders as the customers wanted, even throwing in free customisatioin kits and batteries as a matter of course.

Since the CU I have dropped in and out of SWG, mainly because my alt was a ranger who I played solo and now soloing is completely shot, and am struggling to make any orders for people as they just aren't ordering them anymore.

From what I know and have read the only droids not broken are Astro, Combat (unpredictable yes, broken not completely), BH droids and Barker Droids.

To say I am now completely disheartened and bored of DE due to what SoE have done to it is an understatement. I never made droids for the creds, am 4 x x 4 shipwright and make loads of creds on weapon and torpedoe sales, but I did do it for the fun. Now this is gone can I please ask, nay beg to know what keeps other DE's from throwing in the towel?

My account is cancelled but has a couple of weeks to go, plus I have over 1.5mill creds in the bank so my house etc will survive for ages, but I just want the game to be fun again ...

Rgds

I feel your pain, it's not easy. Honestly, if I didn't have my guild, and other accounts to play on, I don't know what I would do. It used to be that you could easily fill your game time 100% as a crafter, and have fun doing it. Not only with DE, but everywhere, this is a lot more difficult now. Hopefully in the near future this will change, they need to realise that they can't push crafters out of the game as a viable style.

I'm not saying give up. I have faith that in the future, things will look better. In the mean time, maybe set aside your DE stuff, keep your parts and resources, spend your respec to pick up another profession. Maybe go BH and use your own Droids you can always grind DE back up again later.

Having your other account be a Ranger is tough too, they need work as well.

My point is that right now in SOE, there is plenty to do, the CU did make combat better, ROTW brought cool quests, space can be fun, PVP is great now. Maybe dabble in that stuff some until they fix crafting again.

I think you sorta missed the point ... what I was wondering is how people still keep going as DE's, not how they 'take a break' from it and do something else. Plus u missed the point that I dont like the new combat system as am more of a solo hunter, groups aren't my thing.

I think it's inevitable really that i'll leave in disappointment as to whats happened, and leave everyone else to make the best of a bad thing (in my opinion anyway)

Oh, I don't agree with respec ... the reason I stick with DE is that I worked so damn hard to get it. If u just respec to a prof how can u enjoy the progression?

I understand where you're coming from. After 2 years of playing, the idea of quitting for me becomes void because I'd hate to look back at 2 years just to end up disappointed at my progression. I keep churning out the droids because of "faith" and what the devs will eventually have in store for us.

This is Star Wars where droids were the top products of convenience and protection. Soon teh devs will realize it.

I understand your point, I guess the problem is that it is really hard to be motivational about DE right now. The only motivation I can really give is to say stick with it, it may get better. Many of us have been thinking that for a long long time. Myself, I choose to stick with it, yet at the same time, sidetrack my impatience with other things.

So I guess to answer your question "how people keep going as DE's," the answer is they suffer and tough it out. It can be fun yet miserable. They look towards the future and hope. Hopefully that is enough for you.

On a side note, I don't think the CU killed solo play, you can still solo fine, although Ranger has issues. You just can't tank mobs of 10 anymore, you can still viably clear lairs and hunt solo at or below your level though. Ranger does have problems though,so that doesn't help much.

As a pure crafter, and with my trusty Probot, I am able to carefully clear lairs of up to level 19 or 20 creatures. I am sure a Ranger can do better. I think much of the problem is being able, as a solo combat type, to accept the slower pace of the game now. Fighting things one or two at a time instead of 10 at a time.

As for DE, if its not fun, dont watse time trying to make it. Cancel for a few months and try again. Maybe by then some of the needed Crafting issues will be resolved.

If you are looking for a better crafting game, both EVE Online and A Tale in the Desert 2 are very good. EVE has lots of PvP, and ATitD does not have any combat at all. EVE has great graphics, the other not so much, but has a better crafting game.

DE, all crafting actually, is about due for some Love.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have any contact in-game with other DE's so other players I talk too don't feel the frustration I do with the game as it is, they are too busy grinding to be jedi's !!

Anyway, it's sorta comforting to know i'm not the only disheartened soul out there so I will take the suggestion of leaving the game for a few months to give the dev's a chance to sort it out ... just not with my money.

On a side note I will prob log a couple of times before my a/c runs out at end of month so if anyone is on europe-chimaera then feel free to say hi.

Well, I actually logged in and got my fantastic holograms as a reward ... i almost renewed my subscription right there and then!!

Seriously though, I saw the publish 20 notes and essentially they seem to be giving entertainers new props to use (whoop de doo), fixing jedi and BH even more (what a surprise) and very little all else.

I have to admit I am more inclined to playing something like Anarchy Online purely cause it's free to download and free to play (until jan 2006) and damnit i'm gonna play a warrior!!!

Well, i'll close with thanking people for listening to my rant. It's nice to have an appreciative audience as to what i've been experiencing and I may well return in the future ... watch this space

When you come back, if you need a helping hand, stop by Tempest and look up Crys. I might still be around, heheh.

You need to remember that things like Props for the Entertainers were something that they as a class were asking for. So you can't look at that and thing WTH are they doing.

Well I have exactly the same situation .. Eurani is a grafted Master DE and Soski is a grafted Master Ranger. Like yourself I am more of a solo hunter so when I send Soski out to check her Dantooine Harvesters every 4 days I kill a critter or two. As long as Im still playing Ill keep these two skills. Don't know why but I will. I tried out EVE for a bit to see the comparison .. but there is none .. regardless of the problems SWG has, it at least lets me do something other than killing and missions.
