Thread: These new combat droids stink, my lvl 30 droid cant beat a lvl 13 desert demon

Talk about embarassing. I get two customers brand new to game. I sell them two R3 models fully loaded with auto-repair, repair, storage and capped health and cl 30. Im going through the lessons, teaching them how to name them, how to alter commands, etc. Of course, one stops following hismaster. The other one is slow to take commands.

Finally after we get them set up, we decide to test them on some local desert demons. I figure safe bet. lvl 30 droid should wipe them out being they were only level 13. It wasnt even close...for the droids. The demon beat each droid (tried 3 times altogether) with half his health remaining each time. Can someone please explain to me how Im supposed to convince players to buy my droids when even Im convinced they stink and are pointless ??? How can I explain to my stunned customers (who think I ripped them off and demanded the credits back, which i agreed to) why their droid more than twice another creature's level cant win ?

And while we chatted and settled on me buying them back, i waited to see how soon they would regenerate. I had +44 auto-repair modules in each one and a repair module as well. It doesnt seem to help regen health though so not sure what they're actually for ? It took my R3 unit a total of 9 minutes to fully recharge from the dead. These are supposed to be useful ? Please someone tell me fixes are on the way tomorrow ??? Im simply stunned at how bad this publish was...

Given you were explaining droids to them - were you still grouped with the droids when they attacked?

If yes, then the droid is only CL1 as it takes on player rating and will get eaten alive by a cl 13 mob.

If no, then was it using high/low DPS?

Well, had to make a combat droid to see how it would cope if used by a crafter.

Eurani (my Droid Engineer) is Combat Level 1 and doesn't even have scout. Made the following droids with said combat/armor modules:

DZ70 Advanced - 1 Level 4 Armor - 1 Harvest Module, 1 Combat Module with 102 Rating (102)

Combat Level 30 - Health 3742 - Damage 61-284 - Armor 5000 dropped to 1712

As above .. had no problems fighting and killing a Level 18 Bantha (280 hit points in most cases)

Probot - 1 Level 4 Armor - 1 Harvest Module, 2 Combat Modules with 102 Rating (204), 1 Level 6 Item Storage

Combat Level 30 - Health 3742 - Damage 61-284 - Armor 6000 dropped to 1712

Ungrouped it Killed a Level 18 Bantha on Tatooine near Anchorhead with little problem (250 hit points max)

R3 - 1 Level 4 Armor - 3 Combat Modules with 102 Rating (306)

Combat Level 30 - Health 3742 - Damage 61-284 - Armor 7000 dropped to 1712

Again no problems (280 hit points max)

I thought the Combat Module / Rating was supposed to change the Damage and values ? By this it seems it was only affecting the armor.. which of course is the bugged area )

Decided for now to stick non combat droids (been selling well there anyway) and with this new insight create low combat droids for artisans so they can be guarded or if they have scout harvest from critters the thing killed. Hmm unless have to be grouped for that to work .. no doubt .. well will have to try that part out tomorrow ..

It seems that droids are taking the CL of thier owners when grouped.

This leads to the question:

If a CL30 droid groups with a CL 80 player, how effective is he against CL 80 Mobs? This could add 25% or so to a players DPS, which is nothing to sneeze at.

Anyone wanna run the test and find out?

This is true and has been since at least publish 17. I enjoy the extra 25% dps from my droid at CL80. This idea of having the pets take the level of the owner is a good one since it gives viability to pets for all levels of players.

Its not really all that "scary". The droids/pets aren't getting any extra damage from being level 80, they just don't get slaughtered by something thats higher than they would be if not grouped. Does it do decent damage? Sure. But of course, the problem being that the CH's "weapons" can be knocked out, and fairly quickly at that.

well pre pub 18 I went out with a group to hunt karyts. well i decided i want my droid out to help. called him and grouped with it and i saw the damages caused over the karyats and it was around 100 points of damage a hit from my probot.

All true. But nonetheless, it is fun having 4 things ripping into things on my behalf.

Has anyone noticed that a new combat droid doesn't give you the option to program "attack"?

It would be better if it worked like grouping with players where all members of the group take on the level of the highest member. This would give crafters a little protection bonus when out surveying without affecting the way things work for higher level players.

Yes, that's an even better idea. I'm not 100% sure how the system works now to be honest since there are rumors of changes in publish 18. In any case, the way I understand the current system as working is usable. Players higher than CL30 just group with their CL30 pets to bring them up. Players lower than CL30 need to not group with their droids in order to have the droids keep their higher level. Still as you point out, this is not ideal.
