Thread: I would dabble in or even master DE if ...

At one point I was a Weaponsmith because I liked the idea to craft my own weapons. But I gave up since it had no sense at all to make a weapon until you are close to master and the way to it is very boring. So I decided to just buy my weapons.

I just gave up my full artisan skills and I think I miss them somewhat since crafting CAN be fun if it's not only done to get more xp.

If the plan shows clearly that the DEs will become the ability to play like CH do, I would really like that profession, since it covers most of the things I like in this game.

So I would love to become a DE if ...

-Most of the serious bugs get fixed
-We get GOOD combat droids, worth using
-DE get some CH-like advantages in using droids in combat

Some MDE state they have a crafting profession and don't want it to become something different. I do not see where the problem for them lies, no one forces them to change their play-style. Just because you got some combat-abilities(indirect) doesn't mean you have to do destroy missions the whole day. It'd be just the fact that you could if you would like to.

I don't want to see rancor-style droids moving around, just some guys which are somewhat tougher than a probot.

Just my 2 cents

No...... NO...... NO!!!!

a thousand times no!!!!

This, my noble DE friends, is exactly what i feared. Razorblade my friend, i mean you no ill will, but you see this is the exact opposite thing the DE wants. We DO NOT want to be 'metal creature handlers'. We want to be droid crafters and sellers. We do not hunger for PVP, some dont even hunger for PVE! We want to be able to build, craft, sell, and profit!

What is being proposed in one way or another in various posts here is a cert system for battle droids. The higher up the general combat skill trees, i.e. marksman, commando, BH, rifleman etc, the better certs you get and the nastier droids you can command.

You see, we dont want this power for ourselves, we want to be able to sell that power for a fair margin!

how can we get the devs to see this?

Hehe, that was exactly my point if I may stress this here. No change would happen to the profession, my idea for it is no more and no less than an addition. In fact I know a CH who does not use her pets for combat(except defense on travelling from city A to POI B) at all. She likes to tame, train and sell creatures and have them as their pets(as in "pet" not in a "combat-pet".) I think that's what most residing DE like about being a DE.

So this is the opposite case, enhance the profession, not change it so you cannot play it the way you did.

But then again, it's just the way I would like it to be done, not necesseralily the way everyone else likes it to be.

If your sole existence as a DE is to make credits, go be a Weaponsmith or an Armorsmith!

I'm sick to death of some DE's spouting that all DEs don't want to make and use combat droids better than a probot. You don't represent ALL DEs and most likely don't represent even 1/2 of the DEs.

I think the issue that most of the DE's that oppose this (including me) have is with the new influx of DE's that are in it solely for the combat capabilities. This hurts us economically (I won't go into detail here as I already have in multiple other posts) and also as our future as a profession. I believe that we are reaching a critical juncture, where we will be either turned into a combat pet class (at which point a large number of new DE's will join the profession) or be fixed as true droid engineers, making utility droids for people. If we have such a growth in the profession the devs will listen to the majority (which will be combat pet supporters) and work on the development of these. While some would argue that any progress is better than no progress, this would bring less and less attention to the utility side of droids, causing many if not all of the bugs to go unfixed, and none of our much wanted new features to be implemented. I would hate for this to happen as I truly think that utility droids is the true essence of star wars. It is not these massive combat droids warring against eachother, it is the simple protocol and R2 units that are carrying out the menial tasks that no one else wants to do (or it is too dangerous for living beings to do).

I really don't think it will hurt us financially. These new DEs aren't going to want to craft a lot of droids to sell, and most aren't going to craft droids to sell. They will grind through at ludicrous speed to get the certs. If the devs are smart they will only put the good certs very high in DE to minimize dabblers.

ah, but even the grinding hurts us (at least, some of us). As their is a large increas in the number of people requiring resources the price for resoursces will go up (its what, 600k resources total required?). I know I am not the only DE who buys all of his resources (owning a PA hall and a couple factories makes the whole harvester thing hard, and quite frankly I'd lose money in the time it takes to do harvester runs compared to what I'd save). Also, while most will grind, there will be a percentage (small, but significant in the numbers I think would begin the profession) that will only psudo grind, that is, sell off what they make at extremely low prices to attempt to make some of their money back.

I WANTa good combat droid, but i DO NOT want one so good that we have a lot of people going DE just to get them if they are master only. i think the best combat droid should only be half as good or less than the best CH pet. That way hopefully those who just want the best pet they can get will go CH, and not DE. I do not want a ton of people to go DE as they have gone CH (myself guitily included, I do love my sludge panther but will gladly give it up to stop the pet wars). It wouldn't be fair to the CH class either if we got a really good battle droid, that would beat most of what they can get.

Amen. I think we need to establish that there are at least two school of thought on this. However, in practice if the hermits (a playful nickname) have their way, then the combat DEs are screwed. Where as if if the combat DEs have their way -- combat droids, droidekas, etc.-- the hermits can still *elect* to renounce their combative ways for the harmonious life of pure crafting.

You are correct sir, I have the same opinion. Those who want combat won't hobble those who don't, however those who don't want combat have no problem hobbling those of us who want to do some combat.
