Thread: I would dabble in or even master DE if ...

I still believe the DE grind will discourage the "dabblers" from becoming DE just to get a good combat droid, especially if that droid is only available at the Master level. Perhaps I'm just "slow", but it took me 2 months to reach Master DE and more credits than I care to mention. This point aside....

One of the appeals of how SWG was implemented is one is not "locked in" to one playstyle just because of their profession. One can "mix and match" skill trees, so to speak, to suit their playing style.

No so with the DE profession. If you want to be a "true" crafter, you need to pick up Master Artisan as well. Now you ARE "locked in" and can't become "adequate" (I don't mean Master.. I mean adequate) in a combat profession... which means you're really gimped whenever trying to do missions or whatever. A Master Weaponsmith or a Master Armorsmith doesn't have this problem, since they don't have as great a need for the Master Artisan tree.

This is why I'm in favor of a high-end combat droid for Master DEs. It would (perhaps... we'll see when the stats are released) give me the ability to become "adequate" in combat. I'm not interested in PVP, but I'd like to go through the Themeparks or join my guild on hunts without being an utter weakling.

In other words, I don't want to be "locked in" to being a pure crafter. I want the same freedom a Weaponsmith or Armorsmith has.

I see some good reasons why "my" idea of the professions isn't any bad but would in some cases help it. People who dabble to get certs won't be interessted to craft all their stuff themself in most cases. Most CH dabblers don't tame one of their grauls themself, most first-aid2-medic don't craft a single stim pack in their whole swg-life.

The problem with CH-dabbler was not that they were able to dabble but that a) creature pets shouldn't be THAT common and b) they had the FULL advantage of the whole skilltree as a combatprofession while only taking some skill-boxes(seeing that BE are supposed to be the pet-engineers here.) If you dabble in DE and are able to get all certs(or most of them except perhaps a MDE cert) you would only be able to use those higher level combat droids but not to actually craft them, which is still the main purpose of this profession. This is after you already picked up Artisan-skills(which compared to Scout are not that often used by combat professions.) Also this would not change the main purpose of the profession towards a combat profession but only give DE some cool advantages which IMHO would be a very good addition to the immersion.

I always seem to read that it would make DE a much too common profession, but then shouldn't it be a VERY COMMON profession? Every one in the star wars universe should have a demand for droids so why should there only be a handful of DE around? (I seem to remember a young boy crafting his own protocol droid...)

Well, whatever the DEVs decide to do with it, I just hope it will work out and some day there will be more droids around than creature pets(to a large degree hopefully.)

PS: While most people who posted here seem to agree, most seem to dislike my idea since I got from 4 stars to 2. If you don't like it, WRITE WHY. DON'T JUST CLICK A BUTTON THAT'S NOT CONSTRUCTIVE! Thanks!

Droids need to be usable by EVERYONE.

That's the point.

I want to build super combat droids too. I want to USE them. I want to SELL them.

I want both.

Not DE only.... then there is no market to sell, and what's WORSE is that all the uber CH chasers will flood the profession.

bah.... it's not that hard to understand.

To clear things up, I agree that droids should be usable by everyone. There should just be some DE only droids. And DE should have some advantages using them, like having more than 1 out at once. Nearly everony was/is a CH/CH-dabbler. Anyway or even because of that there is a huge market for creature-pets anyway. IF all the "uber CH chasers" flood the profession it will greatly enhace the market; it is way more easy to tame an animal than craft a droid and most of those bought their creature pets. If they do not flood it, the fact that most of the new combat droids will be usable by anyone, while you can only use lvl 10 pets, will make anyone make wanting a droid.

If you don't want to be a fighting DE, do not fight. If you do not want more people to become a DE, try to keep the profession bugged.

There will be more DE around anyway, once it's fixed, and I have a feeling you are more concerned that you won't have a really unique profession anymore. And, people who do not like crafting and pick up DE for combat-reasons WILL NOT suddenly start to craft droids all the time and open up shops(that is if they have no interest in that. There might be people who suddenly realize that they actually that aspect of the game, but I think that would be very good, not bad.)

If they make your "super combat droids" available for everyone I am 100% sure that you will have to pay a price for that which will make it less attractive(from a designers perspective.) So keep those somewhere where not everyone can have them. It will make them something special like having a rancor(well, just imagine for a couple of seconds that it IS something special to have a rancor in this game ... ) and they can make some real cool combat droids without too much disadvantages.

Why are some people so determined to tell me that i can't craft and use combat droids? It would not hurt them in any way!!! Yet they are pushing to keep thier point of view and block us out, why? Are they so affarid of a little compition? Tell me how me running missions with my combat droids will hurt your gameplay!!

STOP BEING SELFISH!!! Let those of us who want to be able to run missions with our droids do so!!!

I want to be able to use and craft them also.

BUT I don't want them to be LIMITED to DE only use.

Razor the issue is that if your a DE who has CH style capabilities there is no profit since you make droids for yourself. If they implement a CH style system it should be seperate so that WE can sell the droids to YOU.

I think we have some other issues. I think most DE's would probably vote that if we were to be the ones to get vehicles under our crafting line, then yes, we could settle for not having both Vehicles (and I don't mean in 12 months from now people) and uber combat droids. But unless you can definately say we are going to be the vehicle people in a few weeks we want something to actually work, and what people want/need. We want more depth. Don't say ok, here's one combat droid, or one vehicle. We want to be able to customize these things. Not just color. We want gadgets, gizmo's, options, faster, or stronger, or tougher. Some variety. Whatever it may be. After seeing today's Friday Feature, I see why the DE has gotten 0 love. We are less than 1% of the population. But did the dev's ever realize that it's because we suck? Do you have stats of how many people untrained DE? That I'd like to see.

Ok, after reading most of the responses in THs thread and some more DE who show their disliking of my idea I think I have a better picture of what some DE feel about their profession. Actually there are those who would probably agree with me in most regards, those who want to be crafters only and those who want a new profession(I personally do not like that last idea very much ... )

Don't get me wrong, I do not want to do you any harm, I think the DE is one of the most important professions in the game(some days ago I wrote a lenghty post where I actually stated how important droids for the game are and how badly DE needs to be fixed due to that. Yay me )

Also I posted this thread with the spare info of the first official DE plan. That was drawing a picture of the "new" DE which has CH like abilities. Also I did not write "change this, do that", I wrote I would like to become a DE IF ... .

I addressed that already, at the moment you can make more money as a CH than as a DE in most cases. Most people have CH for combat not for walking around, searching creatures and tame them. In fact only few do that. They make a huge amount of money. Do you think people who do not want to search for a pet for like a couple of minutes but prefer to pay for it 10-thousands of credits would try to get all the good ressources, sit in their house next to their newly purchased crafting device and craft some combat droids instead of just buying them? I do not think so. CH are proof enough.
