Thread: Combat Droids, A Bio_Engineer's Take
I was waiting on that. They main difference there is that anyone can wear Tailor or Armorsmith made clothing. Anyone can eat Chef made food. We too as BE make things other than pets, yet we still need CH to handle anything more than lvl 15 (lvl 10 with upcoming patch).

Combat droids are one small subset of the totality of a droid engineer's repitore. Most of our droids are designed to serve in non-combat functions. As opposed to a Weaponsmith whose creations are specifically designed to do damage. So I do not agree that there should be a separate class for "droid handling".
And my condolences on being in a broken profession.

The big problem in your example is that chefs and armorsmiths make items that everyone can use. You mentioned weaponsmith and the reason they cant use what they make is because not everyone can use everything they make. Being able to use droids in and of itself I have no problem with. Its when you start giving people special droids that only they can use is when things start to get a bit hazy.

And as I understand it, at this time you may also use a Probot which is a combat capable machine. However, I feel that the DE equivilants to the Rancor or the Grand Maul belong with the DE's. You, as a non-DE, can keep the probot and I'll use my advanced combat thingie.

See above comment.

OK, so does that mean that you, as a non BE, can have a CL10 pet while me as a BE can use a rancor? I mean, thats really what you are saying right. If you can build it then you can use it? Is that essentially your justification?

Carful what you write next too, you already stated that weaponsmiths shouldnt be using their weapons cause they are designed to do damage. Now what exactly do you plan on using a more advanced combat droid for?

PERSONALLY i feel that if you can build it you should be able to use it!!! Weaponsmiths and BE should be able to use anything they can make!!! THE DEVs do not have a clear goal in mind for this game yet! It was released before it was ready and they have been trying to chatch up ever since. I feel for the BE i have friends who are BE and i trully want them to get the love they need, includeing the ability to use their own ceartions, but for them to come on this board in an attempt to sway our profession seems really sad!!
So here is my plan.
Let anyone who can make an item be able to use the item!
Restore the probot to the prenerf stats
Allow the MDE to have three droids out
Fix the bugs
Then give us some reall combat droids
Allow eveyone the chance to run the missions to get the badges, this is after all is said and done a combat game, all of the main missions require you to kill things!!
As was said before, DE's do make other droids. A DE specific droid could be an advanced crafting droid, or advanced programming droid, advanced repair droid, or even something just for looks.
Currently anyone can use any droid they want, which is fine by me, but I see no problem givng DE's 1 extra droid slot for ANY type of droid they choose. Who cares if a Master DE has 2 combat droids, chances are they wont have a huge set of combat skills to make them overpowered or even anywhere near what a Master CH can do.
And Madrox, come on man. Lets not fool ourselves. While there may be a handful of people who find it useful to have 2 crafting droids or 2 of whatever out, combat droids is going to be the main function of this. Trust me, if they said you could have 2 R2's out at the same time, thish conversation would never take place.

But everyone says "Don't make DE only combat droids", as if that was the only thing a DE-specific droid could be.
Go ahead and add a DE-Specific droid because it would be great for the class, but make it something they a DE could benefit from.
I'm still undecided on this debate.
If we DE's get a DE only combat droid, that will open the doors for a more powerful droid. Any combat droid we make that is available to anyone will be reduced in power to keep balance. That's what happened to the old probot. The dev's should have put in a certification system, but that was too hard and would take too long. They chose the easy road.
But then if we get a DE only uber-combat droid at MDE, we won't be able to sell it. And only DE's that get involved in combat will benefit from it. Personally, I like being involved in group hunts with my guildmates, but honestly, I'm a liability with my skills tied up in artisan mastery and DE.
Something else I'd like to point out that a BE might not be aware of is that DE's are highly dependant on several other classes to make anything. You BE's might need CH to use your pets, but we need armorsmiths, master artisans, and even architects to be able to craft all of our droids. And on top of that, we also need factories. Oh, and we can't use our droid craft skills to sample critters to death to help us complete lair missions.
I don't want to sound like I'm picking on any BE's for having an argument, my sister is a BE and she'd probably get mad at me
. But I do have to defend my profession.
You're right on with this! We all should be able to use lvl 70 creature pets. No one should have anything exclusive to their class!

Don't mean any disrepect (honestly), but it sucks to be you. At least we can sell our droids to everyone. You have to sell your pets to CHs only and they can tame them on their own. Not much ofa market. Poor prof. SETUP if you ask me. (Like the concept as a whole)
Droids are inherantly different. They are automatons to do our bidding and NO ONE understands them better than we DEs do. We made them, they do our bidding.
DEs are different than chefs, weaponsmiths and armor smiths:
--No skill needed to eat food, take pills or don armor.
--Skill is needed to shoot and maintain a weapon like a flamethrower
--Skill is needed to command droids, thus DEs should be able to use all droids they can make. Some -- gasp -- might be too high tech for most to operate.
However for BALANCE purposes, I prefer some manner or cert system that puts all on a level playing field as discussed in another post by betatoxin. Keeps masters at equal footing and keeps uber droids out of hands of noobs.
