Thread: Combat Droids, A Bio_Engineer's Take
Weaponsmith vs DE analogy and why it holds NO water.
Go get a gun any gun, go shoot it. see how well you do, now get a engineer from winchester to shoot a gun...does he shoot as well as a biathelete or a swat team member? NO...he can make the best guns but he hasnt trained to use them. It takes training, it takes breathing, muscle control, practice, instruction, knowledge. Making a gun and shooting a gun well have no exchangeable skills, especially when you add in all the specials etc in this game. .
Now go get a computer engineer, and a swat team member, and see who operates that computer better. Thats the closest analogy that fits, droids are walking/rolling computers and some of those are computerized weapon systems. No one but a computer engineer or for our "world" a droid engineer will know how best to utilize that computer/droid. Thats not to say that the swat guy or the avg. player pistoleer etc can't use a droid/combat weapon system, but it certainly shows why a DE can by All means use any combat droid as well orBetter than the next player.
From a Bio-Engineer's standpoint, I must argue against DE only combat droids. As a BE, we too get to create pets. The only problem with our pets is that we need to aquire a whole new set of skills to use them. Even weaponsmiths require a different skill set to use thier weapons. Why should DE be any different? If DE are allowed to use thier pets with no additional skills, then that would make them over-powered as they are a crafting profession.
"But we are a broken profession," they cry!
Yeah... well so are we Bio-Engineers...

Tailors don't require certifications for people to wear their clothes.
Chefs don't require certs for people to eat their food.
Combat droids are one small subset of the totality of a droid engineer's repitore. Most of our droids are designed to serve in non-combat functions. As opposed to a Weaponsmith whose creations are specifically designed to do damage. So I do not agree that there should be a separate class for "droid handling".
And my condolences on being in a broken profession.

I agree with Fugee on this. Combat Droids should not be DE Only. It would be unbalancing and unfair to the other rpofessions and make Droid Engineer a dabblers paradise.
Combat droids should be available to anyone with even novice in any elite profession to give a balanced fair access to them. Broken profession we may be, but 2 breaks won't make us work right.
