Thread: Request to DEs who don't want to use our high end combat droids.
I'll ask this politely.
Please stop acting as though you represent all DEs, its simply not true. The split seems about 50/50 yet some act as though none of us want to be a kind of CH with droids.
I can respect you have a differing opinion on the matter, but please when the subject comes up, don't presume to speak for all of us.
Thanks
Really mature of some coward to 1 star me.....idiot.
Whats the matter, can't post a coherent reply ?
I will be the first to admit that the split is pretty much even from what I've heard, and that neither group can speak for everyone. I will say though that the forums are a far cry from the majority of DE's anyway. I think that a happy medium can be found that will satisfy both sides of the argument and at the same time keep the game in balance. I think one possibility would be to give out certs to combat professions as well as DE's (nothing DE only, as I still don't see how this makes any sense). Furthermore, I think this would work out more balanced if the droids had different capabilities depending on the profession it was certed for (such as a droid certed for a rifleman being given some kind of attack that damages the mind, and a carbineer an action attack).

Just for the record, I'm not the 1-star bandit....
I will reserve judgement on the "high end combat droids" until I actually see "high end combat droids."
But as DE is primarily a crafting profession (in that NO combat or combat support experience is a prerequisite for being a DE), I don't see how it is justified that BAM! at master DE (or whatever level) we all of a sudden become a powerful combat class.
I think the fear is that our biggest concern will be regarded as an inferiority complex next to CHs.
I'd like to see combat droids too, they're well established in the films, and they'd be cool as all get out. But we shouldn't be expecting to have droids that match up against the top of the line CH critters. It's just not a one-to-one comparison. Creature pets are good for one thing, combat (Okay, two things once you can ride them outside of TC, but they can't do both at the same time). Droids have several other uses besides combat and, potentially, could have a whole lot more.
They already offer mobile crafting stations, they enable a medic to do more in the field, they assist BHs with their jobs. How about other, profession enhancing options? Bio-sensor modules that enhance a Ranger's tracking ability, geo-scanners that increase survey results, light and special effects devices that allow any entertainer to have a top-notch light show in the field (I'm picturing R2 with a disco ball extended lol), enough autonomy to retrieve or restock a harvester, down the road it'd be nice if astromechs enhancing some aspect of piloting... etc... etc...
We don't want to limit droids to just combat. And given their potential there's no reason to expect them to go toe to toe with a Rancor (remember the two battle droids fleeing the acklay?)
That's not to say we shouldn't be able to sell droids that have combat abilities to match the level 10 pets CHs can give to anybody. And DEs themselves should be able to control even more powerful models. But that's only part of the story.
While I am fine with droids as a crafting profession... they will never have the demand a weaponsmith or armorsmith has. So I do like seeing "handling" skills added in as well, for those of us that don't want to sit around all day clicking.
So I concur with this statement, and frankly I have become very vocal about it... not all DEs want to be pure crafters. So stop saying its going to be DE's death, when in reality it looks to add more life to DE's.

Creature Handler needs no combat xp to get to CH nor to level. Sure its slow only taming and training, but its about as bad a grind as DE's have. Also having one combat droid out, wouldn't put us up in the ranks of a powerfull combat class. I really doubt that we could equal a non-combat based CH with a gnarled rancor.
I may not be a DE right now, since I decided to reroll the char (got tired of being a squid, didn't want to wait for my stat migration and was fed up with the grind to MDE with no new info from the devs) and this came out a week afterwards, I still am very interested in DE's getting some love. I would come back to the prof just because of that.
The Top Ten Reasons DE-Only Combat Droids Don't Make Any Sense
(10) Droids are smart and have AI...it doesn't take a rocket scientist to say "attack."
(9) We can't make money selling to ourselves.
(8) Chefs can't make food that only they can eat.
(7) Armorsmiths can't make armor that only they can wear.
(6) Weaponsmiths can't make weapons that only they can use.
(5) Architects can't make structures that only they can use.
(4) Tailors can't make clothing that only they can wear.
(3) Two words....Artisan Tree.
(2) Where in all of the Star Wars movies or universe is there EVER an instance of droids needing specialized handlers? R2 and C3P0 traveled from planet to planet without ever checking in with anyone. Episodes I and IIwere packed FULL with battle droids who fought on their own volition led by DROID commanders. Even the mighty Droidekas had no handlers.
And number one...
(1) We are ENGINEERS for heaven's sake!!! When was the last time you saw an engineer in a camo labcoat beating the hell out of someone?
You do realise that if combat droids are available to all they are going to be virtually usueless ?
They will be balanced to account for high level elite combat skills, since we don't have that if they aren't DE only they will be gimpy.
There SHOULD be more and better combat droids.
One DE's opinion.

It takes 92 skill points to fully Master DE. That leaves you 158 to take up combat skills to keep you from being gimpy.
If you want to be a combateer, take up combat professions. If you want to havea bunch of powerful pets, take up CH. Otherwise, don't bitch that you can't fight because you decided to craft.
By the way, I am currently a Commando/Pistoleer/Medic/DE...I am FAR from gimpy. You get no sympathy from me because you suck at combat.

I have to say, as DE/Architect/Master Artisan, I love being a crafter. However, darn it, I shouldn't have take a creature with me for protection. It should be a droid.
There SHOULD be more and better combat droids.
If devs finally listen, there will be better combat droids (available to all, both DEs and others). Then we can all sit around a campfire and teach our new combat droids to sing Kum-Ba-Yah. Happy Thoughts.
