It sounds to me that SOE wanted to make you all useful by adding combat droids for a new droid handler profession. But you all are against it. Well most of you are. Thank your fellow DE's for being useless.
What a truely ignorant post.
This is how Thunderheart spun it - but this is now what happened.
TH came to us, and said, do you want to be a combat class, or a crafting class?
DE's voted crafting. Now, realize, at this point in time, there had been MONTHS of discussions on the DE boards about how combat droids could be certed.
Next thing we know, there is going to be a Droid Handler class - this flew in the face of every single discussion that DE's had had about how to cert combat droids.
No, I thank Thunderheart for his Machivellian tactics, and Holocron and the rest of the high level devs for poor management, bad communication, and outright lies to the players.

My point about CH needing another combat profession to supplement, that is just the way it goes. If you want to go into combat, you will need to know SOMETHING, you can't just expect your pets to do all of the fighting, and then complain if they are wounded, or killed. If they are the only ones fighting, it just makes sense that they might get hurt or killed. If you want to help them fight, stop whining and pick up some combat skills. It isn't hard, there is a lot of freedom to pick up and drop skills in this game!!!
Do you realize that every single advanced droid needs master artisan made parts?
An advanced probot with a L6 medical module and an L6 item storage mod in it takes 9 master artisan parts. An fully loaded advanced R3 droid, with all 4 crafting stations, a medical mod and item storage takes 28 master artisan parts.
So, to be at all functional, a Droid Engineer must have Master Artisan.
There is a dependancy on MA by DE that no other class even comes close to having. I have three factories, and two of them pretty much do nothing but crank out EMM's and GP's, and then make the droid sup parts out of those two master artisan parts.
The point here is that there is a skill point expenditure for droid engineer that doesn't exist for other classes.
Now, another issue. Droids are expensive to make in terms of the varried materials, and the rares. Hoppers aren't free to run. So, you need to pick up at least some merchant skills - at least enough to get your vendor on the map. Sure, if you have a great location or guild backing you don't need this - but many DE's don't.
In all candor, DE's don't have a lot of extra skill points to play with.

All right then creature handlers, how about the devs change the CH profession so that ALL of these great rare baby animals spawn, and you can tame all of the great pets that you want, but you cannot personally use them? Yes....we will need another profession. CH will be changed to Creature Tamer, so you will be able to tame and train creatures, but you will need to dump skill points back into the new modified Creature Handler profession before you can use your pets. Does that sound fair? That is exactly why some Droid Engineers do not wanta separate Droid Handler profession. Why is that so hard to see? The joke is a CH saying that CH is one of the weakest combat professions in the game, and needs to be supplemented by another combat profession. Duh!!! I am surprised that the person who said that can string a sentence together. The whole point of Star Wars should be droids, not creatures. It has been said time and time again, maybe you haven't seen the movies??? How many creatures figured prominently in the movies? Hmm..the Rancor and his crybaby trainer made one cameo appearance, before the rancor was dispatched by a novice jedi, who didn't even have a lightsaber handy. How about the droids? They are everywhere, R2 is always fixing something, droids are doing things all over the place. If you don't like DE, fine, don't become one. I am not becoming a creature handler, because I don't want to. I think it would just be better for the CH community to whine to the devs on their own boards, and not come here fanning the flames, or trying to get droid engineers to understand how rough the life of a CH is.

Sketh, don't jump on me buddy, I was responding to a poster from another thread who was complaining about CH being a weak combat profession.
Heh heh... sorry. I guess I am getting as defensive as everyone else is around here - something I try to avoid.
I was simply pointing out that if they want to fight, why shouldn't they need to put points into combat. If they want to help a pet, then the only way to do that is to pick up combat professions. It wasn't about Droid Engineers being able to fight, but I am quite capable to fight if need be. I don't think we are arguing the same point.
Quite possible.
As being dependent on MA, I am a Master Artisan, Master DE, and Master Marksman, so it is possible.
I can only afford novice carbineer, as I have merchant skills
And amen on the EMM and EGP never-ending factory run problem. Big old pain. It is quite a challenge juggling lots for factories (which double as storage most of the time), harvesters of various types, generators, etc. Storage is the biggest pain.
Aye. I two accounts - but one was primarily bought to hold a PA hall. So, that makes for the PA hall, 3 factories, 5 large harvestors and one fusion gen. Fortunately, I have been DE for long enough to have some stockpiles, and whenever a rare resource spawns, I just drop 5 harvestors of the appropiate type on it.
Anyway, please re-read my post about the CH, and understand that it wasn't originally pointed at droid engineers. I will stand by statement that if you want to fight, you simply have to put the points into it. You cannot expect to have super duper pets that can take out multiple opponents, and then whine that you don't have any combat power. That would apply to us as well, if we had uber combat droids. It is all down to the player at the end of the day, you cannot point a finger at anyone else, it is all up to the player where they want to put their skill points. Thanks.
I am not going to touch the CH thing with a ten foot pole. As far as the combat droids, I still wish we could reach a compromise on the cert system being an inherrent part of the other classes skill trees, but that is a dead droideka at this point, I fear.....

The one problem I see with even the most viable droid cert system is that it would kill the non-CH pet market for BE's...

There have been several compromise solutions to this, which basically entail certs for some droids, and a "mini-profession" takes skill points for other combat droids.
Drashk put forth one compromise solution a few weeks back - but the devs said something about checkers, so I think that even that is dead.
