Thread: Can't IGNORE Spam Droids?? You've GOT to be kidding!!!!!
Okay. Let me put it THIS way... If you BUILD a Spam Droid for someone then you're JUST as much a part of the problem as the Folks who DO the Spamming.
I never had a problem with spam. I just put up my combat log and use tells, and I'm fine, what's the big deal? One other thing is something I think everyone should do: Just accept the fact that Coronet starport IS A MARKETPLACE where people hawk their wares. Once I did that, I felt a lot better. You can't expect everyone to stop talking in a marketplace because certain people find it annoying in that one area. When Obi Wan and Luke arrived in Mos Eisley, or when Anakin goes to see Watto in Episode 2, there were people milling about, shopkeepers no doubt trying to lure customers, people making deals, there was general noise about the area, as there always is when a large crowd gathers. So it is in Coronet, the hub of the galaxy at the moment. You're not going to find peace and quiet at a busy starport. You need to accept that. Don't go to the equivalent of New York's LaGuardia airport and demand that everyone be quiet because you find it annoying.
Also, there are going to be changes in the near future that will fix a lot of the spam. Starports will connect with most (if not all) other starports, people will have their own ships and can go anywhere whenever they want. I think this will break up the dense crowd in Coronet to some degree. People may actually start to hang out at the starports of previously unpopulated cities again.
Rippen
I hope they DO fix it. Remember... a LOT of us play for the SOCIAL aspects of the game. Its HARD to have a SOCIAL element when we are all forced to communicate in Tells. No public conversations are even Possible any longer in a Cantina. If you WANT to talk to several people you either have to Group or go off in the woods somewhere to sit and talk. Is THAT the intent of the Devs these days?? Yo drive all the socially oriented people into the woods? Cause THATS what's happening.
And some people have no concept of courtesy. Went to an outdoor wedding the other day. As soon as someone saw a Group of people gathering they came running and dropped a couple Spam Droids in the middle of the wedding.. Forcing a Wedding to go private?? Is THAT the purpose of Spam Droids????
When we ASKED them VERY politely to please remove them and respect our short time together to celebrate a marriage... well the response was NOT one I can copy HERE without getting banned.
Someone up there needs to do some Serious thinking unless the long range intent of the game is to market it eclusively to 13/14 yr old leet doods. Cause the Real people get awful tired of this kind of stuff after a while.
I can't agree more with Rippen on this one.I can understand your frustration with the spam, but as Rippen said, you're going to the busiest place in the galaxy and thinking there shouldn't be advertiseing there. I've found myself cursing the game several times when I couldn't "easily" carry on a conversation with someone at the starport, but you know, when I go out on a Friday or Saturday night to a favorite popular bar, I can't "easily" carry on a conversation there, either, because of the surrounding noise. Do I blame the bar for having noise? Heck no, and I still go back time and time again. It's one of the things that go with the territory under the circumstances of location.
As far as the Droid Engineers being to blame, I belive you're completely off-base with that. If you blame Smith & Wesson or Colt, or any other gun manufacturer for people being shot, then I can at least understand your philosophy on it. Just because they make the item, doesn't have anything to do with how they're being used. DEs do not build droids to increase spam. They build droids because that is their profession, and it is their method of making a living. Do you blame the weaponsmiths for the players who throw dueling in on top of the already congested area as well? I doubt it... or do you blame the creatures for having babies when the players bring out all of their pets in an already congested area? All of these things cause lag, which truly is the biggest annoyance, but the blame goes in the right direction with these things. It should go in the right direction for spam as well.
I think if a person were to step "out of the box" as they say, and look at the big picture, it would be easier to see the underlying problem. As it stands, the overall economy of the game is really jacked up. I know they are working on ideas to try and help get it under control, but that is not an easy task. Currently, the game is almost entirely driven on economy. If you don't have a substantial flow of cash or pile of it built up, there isn't much you can do in the game at all, because the prices for everything have been driven much higher for things than they should be. The reason for that is simple - everyone has too much money, because there is far too much money in the system. Because everyone needs so much money to move forward in the game, they have to do everything they can to make the cash flow soar, hence heavy merchant barking where the traffic is the heaviest. If the traffic were better dispersed around the system, so would the advertising be. I believe that when they achieve getting traffic spread out more and the money better regulated, the spam will spread out more and won't be such a nuisance from all being in one or two areas of the game.
But anyhoo... that's just my two cents. There are many opinions on this, and each to his own of course. My MDE character will continue building droids, and if my customer wants a barking module installed, then that's what will be installed. How and where he or she decides to use it is totally their call and their moral responsibility, because I'm completely comfortable with my opinion that I'm not the one 'causing' the spam. I wish you luck getting through it all, and hope they get things changed up a bit so it improves, but at least try to see well enough to know where the actual blame lies.

Maybe you should be ranting at the people who are abusing their Advertising Droids, rather than the people who make them. We can't do a 'personality check' on every person we sell droids to..
Eithert that or you should try complaining to SoE to get them to make Advertising Droids "/addignore -able". Its something that I'm sure we all want!
I wich they would allow the owner to increase the time between barks to save batteries, but they didn't.
If you wanna ignore me, go on, I do addignore ID that charge outrageous prices for a click on a button.
PS: And I'm totally against the add ignore to barker droids. Merchant spent skill points and money to use them.

AND top that off with IDers having to go to the now even MORE spam ridden cities to use the tents and you have SOE not listening to my suggestion of a player city tent too. When will they ever learn?
