Well, don't know about you guys but being a Master Artisan, Master Droid Engineer, and 3-0-0-0 Merchant leaves exactly enough skill points right now to master a single combat profession. For me, that's Pistoleer. But announced in the CU is that they are gonna up the skill points requirements so people will find it impossible to master 3 combat professions. Well, that would be fine if you only had to be an Artisan Engineering 4 to be a DE but we all know you can't get by with less than Master Artisan. Don't even bring up the interdepedency crap. DE is the only crafting profession saddled with that baloney which history has proven is a failure. Well, I'm sure I'm just pissing in the wind here. But when they force this down on us, I guess I'll finally just cave in and after two years as a DE, call it quits. I don't have any expectation that something sane will be done like move all the electronic components we need to be a DE down from Master Artisan to Engineering 4. There would still be vehicles to make people want to be Master Artisans. But I'm sure the Weaponsmiths, Armorsmiths, Tailors, and Chefs will all be able to squeeze one master combat profession in. Just not DE's.

I sure hope your wrong on this one. I am currently a Master Droid Engineer, Master Artisan, and almost a master pistoleer which means I also have marksman x4x4. If they increase the cost point on combat skills that will effectively eliminate almost all De's being able to have some form of defense, while checking harvesters. If they were to do this they would definately need to give us some form of DE only battle droid otherwise we'll be sitting ducks. Also I dont know about you guys, but when I get tired of checking my harvesters and making droids I enjoy blasting something now and then. This is disappointing news and I sure hope its wrong, but hey its sony so you never know.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone specifically state that they "wanted" to be MA. It's something you pretty much have to take as part of lessening interdependence.

I think there are a couple points to be made here (note I am not arguing one way or the other, just pointing out alternative points of view).
First, not having master artisan can be pretty easily worked around. I know it takes me at most 5-10 minutes to find someone to make me schematics for my GP/MM modules. Its not as convenient, but it saves 48 skillpoints, so there is a valuable tradeoff there.
Secondly, people are still thinking of things in terms of the current system. I believe if they do things correctly with the CU, there should be a much smoother power progression with combat professions. So you may not have the points to master whatever, that doesn't mean you can't still do combat. It just means you're not quite as good at someone who spent all their skills on combat (but then again they can't build droids, now can they).

Its rather hard NOT to think in the current system, as there is nearly nothing of the new system released yet

Very true, but until we do know exactly how the new system will work out I'd rather take a "keep it in mind as something to watch for but don't cry nerf" attitude, but thats just me...

Combat? We don't need no stinkin' combat!
Make it challenging - try doin' the harvest runs with no combat skills.
Make a couple of jetpacks in the DWB without firing a shot.
Combat you say? I send battlebots into the fray! They blow up, I'll make another.
I love this job!

A couple of points as well I want to make.
These changes were not done just to prevent triple mastery in general, they were done to make each class more unique, as well as easier to balance. Currently some classes such as Commando or BH take more skill points then other combat professions. Should these actually fight better then other professions or the same yet different? By making them a little cheaper, and the others more expensive, then they are easier to balance out.
Also, don't get hung up on what is in what boxes currently. The other Brawler or Marksman column that you will be forced to get, wont be an empty column, there will be things in those boxes to help you.
I know that this is rough on combat dabblers or Hybrids, but overall it will be better for the game. A crafter may be better off Mastering marksman and picking up a little Pistol, then trying to Master Pistoleer. The game is a balance of tradeoffs, or it should be. Currently, a character can be good at everything, when it should be the more diverse you are, the more options you have, but you wont be as good as somebody less diverse at a particular thing.
Don't panic and get attached to "boxes and titles," the goal of the CU is not only to balance things, but to make the game more fun. Templates and such are changing for everybody, not just hybrids, in the end though it will be better for all.

Take no offense at this, but it seems to me that paying for multiple accounts in order to avoid having to "only dabble in combat" or "hybrid" your character makes it much easierfor you to say that.

If there isnt any change in skill point cost per box i will likely change TKM into pistoleer, drop my Merchant skills and MA back to 4034
With the SP i get from that i'm gonna get at least nov. smuggler and go into combat with very much detonation power

Sorry, but I'm sick of the double standard. DE being handicapped by being massively dependant on Master Artisan while other crafting professions are only dependent on their respective artisan branch (engineering 4, tailoring 4, cooking 4).
They have stated that all combat professions will have their skill point requirements increased. Ummm, I'm already using all of them up. Where am I gonna get more from? No choice, something has to give.
Without at least one master combat profession, I can't pursue to variety of game activities that have allowed me to stay interested in SWG for about 2 years now.
Well, no matter, if it comes down to this, I've already made my decision. They can shove DE were the sun doesn't shine.
