Thread: Continuity

You know, some of what we have been talking about have been great ideas. Some of them lack continuity completely. This is SWG, perhaps we should be looking for things that not only benefit us as a profession, but also make SWG more 'real'.

Lets put asside the bug fixes and nerfs for a bit. Lets look at the world as a whole. Is there a place in SWG for a DE? Oh yeah! Tonnes.

Remember, Sony asked us for 5 items on the wish list weekly. I would hope that we will see some of our ideas working thier way thru the pipe soon. Lets look a bit to the future, and if they have to re-vamp our class completely, so be it. I would welcome it. But lets compare droids in the movies to droids in game and see what could realisticaly be implimented with todays programming and tech limitations. Some of the things that bothered me about the DE profession were not so much the bugs, but the lack of continuity.

If we look at the novice DE, all you can do is make mouse droids to advance. If we could get some XP doing other things (Like repairing and maintaining droids) that should be XP worthy as well.

I also think we should get rid of personality chips completely. As I understand it, droid personalities come out on thier own. I for one would have never made a protocol droid act like 3P0. No way, no how. If droids are not memory wiped every so often, they develop personalities (randomly). You know, you never know EXACTLY what R2 is saying.. I'm pretty sure that 3P0 edits out alot of profanity. I mean R2 is the hero almost EVERY episode, and all he does is get crapped on. I'm sure he's SWEARING like a sailor. Now I for one can't blame him, however.. its not something I want happening when I'm hanging around a princess, or having my combat droid develop a complex when its time to fight. I loved that post about the DE's probot turning and running in a fight. Its not that I'm laughing at you dying bro, but if the droid had a personality of a coward, heh, yeah, that would be funny! (and star warsy!)

DE's could gain the ability to Mem wipe droids when they start acting like that. Then your droid is fine with the basic program until a certain time when.. boom.. he stating to get a personality again... might be a different one this time. DE's should get XP for this service too. ( and charge a nominal fee)

So what if you like the personality he's developed? Thats great! Don't bring him in for a wipe. If his personality is one that retreats (in the case of a battle droid) or is mouthy.. you may want to purchace a restraining bolt! (remember those?). Man I loved those things.. to this DAY I wish you could make them for toddlers. (of course with repeated use, your droid could either get real paranoid about it, or just bitter...) Immagine your doid giving you a calling down in ffront of your friends

Perhaps a cert systemIS the way to go, perhaps having a droid go renegade every so often (When not properly maintained), would be a GOOD thing. Remember, R2 bugged out on Luke.. only for Luke to tear after him in the speeder.

Droids could have rudementary AI for the stuff we are listing here.

These are just a couple of ideas, and they can be easily programed with today's limitations.

C'mon guys, think.. how can we make them more "Star Warsy". The Dev's will be less likely to swing the nerf bat and impliment things that might make life a tad harder for the players (Who own droids). Think of benefits with limitations, and you'll prolly get the dev's eye.

Some good ideas here.

I think that a rework will be necessary. I hope that the devs are reading posts like this one, and are considering some of the ideas that are being posted here.

I’m sure I will get slammed for this post but here it goes.

I would like to see a new server where continuity goes out the window. Anything goes on it. Everyone can start with a Jedi character if they want. It doesn’t matter which side of the war is winning. If you see a group of 20 Jedi, it does not matter. If you are rebel, you can still get Stormtrooper armor and an AT-ST. It would even be great is it was a PVP only server.

Flame away (as I am sure you are dieing to do so now)!

Hmmm, very interesting a server with all Jedi's....Cause that is what you would end up with.

there is a non continuity server in fact there are loads!!

you just need to do the following

1) log into starwars galaxies

2) skip past those boring ad's

3) choose a server....

Ok ok. I KNOW continuity seems to have flown out of the window already, but I have a rather radical (as in extreme not 'kool') Idea.

Why not do a reality shift?

I mean do a publish that's nothing but shifting the game either backward to the rise of the empire era (very difficult I know), Or do a reality shift to the new Jedi Order era. (much easier) (now keep in mind I HATE the new jedi order era, but I hate poor continuity even more)

Shifting to the new Jedi Order era would basically be not much different than things are now. Some toons would have to be change. No more vader or palpatine, but there are plenty of NPCs that could take their place. No more imperial crackdown, but you'd still see forces of the empire as even well into the Yushemm Vhong (did I spell that right?) war there are STILL pockets of Empireal control around. Basically, change the toons and give them new script and things would basically be the same as they are now, but with slightly better continuity.

Yes I KNOW there are a lot more changes than just that that would have to be made, Like Jabba he Hutt. Just replace him with Bob the Hutt. or whatever his name would be. For every Hutt crime boss that dies, there are 5 more to take his place. Hutts live up to a thousand years, you can't tell me there was NO hutts ready to jump in line in Jabba's absence.

There it is. Not the best Idea, not even really a feasable one, just a little thing I cooked up.

blah blah im a purist and anything that doesnt precisely conform to the way i think things should be is bad and should be changed. get over yourself, this is a game, not official star wars canon.

Its a great idea, i had the same thought a few weeks ago when i picked up Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. They did it in that game were Luke was starting up the academy again and the empire was still around doing what they do best. It also through in many familar planets that we have now, and added some new faces. It was all about bringing up the new jedi. Which as i would think is like good and evil. The world can not be free of one or the other ever. Its just an unbalance of force, so there would be many new dark and light jedi. Its a never ending story, even after Vader and Palpatine die, you just know that someone on the dark side would have to replace them or atleast a group of dark jedi would have some type of new council to fill the void of the darkside. Well, again its a great idea and they should have done it from the start from this pt of view. The game would not have had a problem with continuity, since we would be making history for ourselves.

Im not trolling, i just dont like it when people whine about continuity because they think everything has to conform with thier idea of what star wars should be.

I think its an interesting idea but they couldn't do this realistically. I mean its possible but doing such a thing would cause so many people to push the caancel button its ridiculous. Its just too late. If they wanted to stick to continuity and still have jedi running all over the game, they should have started it out in the new jedi order era. But it was all about the money. They tried to take all the most appeling aspects and cram them into the game because they were looking to draw in as many customers as they could. Everyone wants to live in the era of the original films, right? The idea of piloting an x-wing for the rebellion or standing next to vader is great. But also everyone wants to be a jedi. How do you do that without bending continuity?

Korvas: What are you? 12? 15?

I'm not whining. It's just an Idea. And it's not my opinion of the Sttar Wars continuity, is a bloody fact. Go watch the origional trilogy. You know... the one that came out before you were born? And count the number of discrepancies. Better bring your daddie's calculator though.

Korvas. You have just had your own childish bhaviour turned back around on you. Does.t feel good does it? Kind of embarassing isn't it. Specially the parts that are true.

You have somthing mature to say, say it. You want to talk trash, take it somewhere else.

I'm not talking trash, i'm simply telling you whats what. the devs said that making the game fun for more people is more important to them than preserving continuity. accept it. all the complaining about it in the world does you nothing. no point in whining about something that they've already announced wont happen.
