Thread: Give the DEVs some slack...

One thing that's good about no news is that the DEVs are really thinking about this. they are putting this off so they can devote as much attention to our issues as possible, rather than just try to fix stuff. I say let the DEVs finish Cities, Mounts, and maybe Vehicles. After that, they will be able to devote more time to us, and we'll have our day.

I'd be amazed if they didn't implement a survey droid, one way or another, as it doesn't have to step on any player's toes. Give certifications for them to artisans with survey skills, like the survey tools themselves.

They've said they are going to make real battle droids, and are seriously considering working on a certification system for them. How exactly I don't care, as I don't really get interested in combat.

They know our issues, and once our DEV gets the okay to focus his efforts on DE, he'll look at what our correspondant shows them, and what he can't get from that, he'll find in here. It is only a matter of time before they make DE truly as impressive as Architect and Weaponsmith.

Blah... should they not have done this work 'before' releasing the game?

Slack? SOE has had alot of time to learn from their mistakes. Their main one is EQ. Yes i am a patient person, I am a DE and yes it is a broken class BUT I am hanging in there. With EQ they never EVER learned that you fix a problem berfore you add a new expansion.. they still have not fixed problems about the game from day 1 and look at how many expansion have came out.. they don't learn.. They just hide the problem with..MORE problems (Mind you i don't play EQ anymore and SW:G has so much potienal i hope SOE dosent mess it up). With SW:G, the better fix the probs they already have before adding more content (aka player cities, vehicles etc etc) or the game will just become one large dump of computer data. And for a game of this size and what very few techs/devs/csr's they have it just..well wrong. This is a name brand item andit isbeing treated like trash in my opinion... With all the Star Wars people out there and this game has only got..forgot the number..about 350,000 people playing...there should be alot more so that should tell SOE that they might be doing something wrong.

Heh, don't get me wrong, I was almost to quitting a week ago, but it's just a game. and they are trying to keep what promises they can. AND once they get to us, it's blatantly obvious they'll do as good a job as they can. Which has been shown to be fairly good when you look at all the other fixes they HAVE done. I agree they released it to early, but that was probably NOT the DEV's choice... but the financial backers, Sony themselves.

Ultimately, though my profession chafes, I'll still support the DEVs. Maybe I'm just a masochist?

I'm with you Dossa.

I think that our DEV (to my knowledge there is one DEV for about 2-6 issues and not a whole team of people working on one issue as so many people believe) is doing a pretty good job lately. Sintrosi has already stated, and I'm repeating myself as well now, that our DEV is also the DEV for Armorsmiths and Artisans, as well as working on the upcoming release of mounts. In the next two Big Patches, evidence of our DEV at work can be seen, if not from a DE poiint of view. We are not the only project that our DEV has. Yes we need to have issues fixed, but if you haven't noticed a few items have been worked on recently. The data storage issue was taken care of, droid persistence is begining to work correctly, and soon we will be able to color most, if not all, of our Droids. I hear people whining 'Those are just crap fixes, give us new droids.'. Well, I for one see the little fixes that are occuring for what they obviously are (at least from my point of view), items that will have an effect on future patches.

So many people are crying for the quick fix. These same people are the ones that are already giving up on the game. I've never played a MMORPG before, but I do a lot of reading and surpisingly enough, most MMORPGs have a lot of growth issues in the first 6 months to 1 year. Silly me, but I would think that the climb up to Master DE and the constant need to explain things to others regarding Droid useage would have taught everyone one thing.....Patience.

DossaOfBria - Your post is funny.

How long since the game has been released, and how many fixes that fixed things that were broke? How much has been added to DE since release? How many things are still broke with DE?

Heh, ambassador, I was talking about overall fixes. Which they have done a lot of. I wasn't just speaking of fixes to DE. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.

Oh yeah, and tho it may appear that I'm happy about our current situation...

I'm not. I can still make cash, and business seems to be picking up enough to make it profitable for me, but I'm not happy about our limitations.

That said, I AM optimistic about our potential, and optimistic about the time frame. besides, I'll be starting a second account to craft vehicles once they are available too, so I'll have something else to do while I wait.

Actually, I wouldn't say the 'fixes' work well. Their 'fix' for people and things getting stuck on objects and in buildings was to remove all collision detection, a pretty crappy 'fix' imo. Another 'fix' so that monsters wouldn't get stuck on walls is monster warping, which is now one of the most annoying bugs. Yet another 'fix' was the removal of actual terrain acting likea barrier to combat (ie, you can't shoot through mountains). And don't forget about the probot 'fix' to lower ham and damage, along with the t21 'fix'... you get the idea.

I would normally agree except for one fact that prevents me from doing so....

Everything in the original post is hope. It's not validated fact, it's hope. Those things you said, that they will get to us, that they'll implement fixes after Vehicles and Cities and Mounts, that the Devs will get to fixing us....all of that is just hope. We don't know for sure that any of that is true because the Devs haven't communicated with us. They haven't specifically told Sinostri any promises that we can believe in, simply because they haven't built up a good record with us yet. The Probot Nerf was supposed to be a band-aid fix until they got Certs in, but then they promptly forgot to put in the Certs.......Raph (or Holocron) said a few times that we are one of those professions which "desperately needs attention" and has "more issues than most", yet still we watch the Big Monthly Patches and get nothing but fluff and flavor without any real meal.

If I had something for my hope to feed off of, then yeah, I'd say to back off of the Devs too. But they've yet to build good credit with me. Refusing to communicate definately isn't the answer, and giving specific promises that they end up breaking is just as bad. What they need to do is set their own deadlines and be clear about them. Right now, Sinostri predicts that we won't get attention for another month or so, but even that is her own prediction since the Devs themselves haven't given any indication about their projects for us, known or unknown.

Trust is earned. They seem earnest enough to try, it's just they're not living up to the expectations that they sold themselves on.

Give them some slack? lol You actually believe they will devote more time to us after player cities and mounts? After those get released, and the countless bugs created by this, I bet they will be fixing those before looking our way.

The fact is, game developers are just like parents. They constantly give their "children" the "soon" line. Sure, they'll fix things after cities, mounts and vehicles... except that as soon as they are done, another problem will arise that they feel is more important. Then it will be after that. Except after THAT, another problem will arise ... and so it goes on.

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of appreciation for the developers of this game. They generaly seem concerned on giving us the best game possible, and the best feed back, and I've pretty much "given them slack" and not really made any posts about how droids are crapped to infinity... but the fact remains that Droid Engineer is now THE most broken profession in-game. We are the ONLY profession who has atleast one bug with EVERY item that we can craft and a problem with EVERY skill box we can gain. The fact is, fixing exisiting contant *SHOULD* have been more important than adding new content.

They are rushing to get cities and mounts in because they made a promise 2 years ago to have them ready for launch. People seem to forget that they made the same promise about droids.

You really see the Devs through rose-colored glasses.

They put out this game half done and unfortunately we all bought into it.

And how can you ignore how they have done nothing but spit at our profession since we went live, when we got any attention at all?

Or the fact that they are adding customization (which I welcome - it's requested a lot) when there are still modules that don't work in certain droids that used to, some combos don't work, etc - and all we have is trial and error to guide us.

The Devs don't care about DE's - any way you cut it.

I've seen an influx of novice DE's in the game lately, and after speaking to a few of them I found out they were under the false impression that "droids are going to be fixed very soon" or that "we're getting new combat droids in the next big patch!".

The only thing being fixed in the forseeable future is customization, nothing else.
