Thread: Give the DEVs some slack...

Actually, I wouldn't say the 'fixes' work well. Their 'fix' for people and things getting stuck on objects and in buildings was to remove all collision detection, a pretty crappy 'fix' imo. Another 'fix' so that monsters wouldn't get stuck on walls is monster warping, which is now one of the most annoying bugs. Yet another 'fix' was the removal of actual terrain acting likea barrier to combat (ie, you can't shoot through mountains). And don't forget about the probot 'fix' to lower ham and damage, along with the t21 'fix'... you get the idea.
Exactly.
There have been very few real, honest fixes in SWG.
Watching the game develop from beta until now, the majority of "fixes" are just band-aids - which is why you see the same issues that were supposedly fixed come back weeks later.
It's also hilariously funny to read the patch notes some days - when 1/2 the stuff isn't really fixed that they say is.

One thing that's good about no news is that the DEVs are really thinking about this. they are putting this off so they can devote as much attention to our issues as possible, rather than just try to fix stuff. I say let the DEVs finish Cities, Mounts, and maybe Vehicles. After that, they will be able to devote more time to us, and we'll have our day.
Umm yeah, keep kidding yourself that the devs are working on all these other things so they can concentrate on our issue. We've been doing that for months now. How much time did they waste messing up the UI with the first super patch (which ended up looking uglier than the first one)? Or how about the fact that male characters can now go topless! woot!. These are the sorts of pressing new features that are taking priority over fixing our broken profession.
They know our issues, and once our DEV gets the okay to focus his efforts on DE, he'll look at what our correspondant shows them, and what he can't get from that, he'll find in here. It is only a matter of time before they make DE truly as impressive as Architect and Weaponsmith.
The Devs have demonstrated that they do NOT know our issues. They have shown that they don't even read our official issues list. For example, see how probots were confused with arakyd probe droids in the patch notes, or how they added a schematic for a droid repair tool in TC, not knowing that one already existed which simply needed fixed.
Right now our Dev is busy working on allowing the poke mon handlers to ride their pets.
Oh, dang... I said that word again... Hope.
All this talk about striking, making demands, etc. Ain't gonna make our situation any better. If all you cynics want improve DE, quit, so even if the devs never fix DE I won't have to listen to a bunch of doomsday fanatics...
Sheesh, It's just a game, and ever since I hit Master DE, my credit income has been better than anything else I've done in game.
That said, let's take a look at one major fix they did right.
Creature Certification. Remember when any Novice Creature handler could whip out a frenzied graul? Now it is limited to a certification system. Obviously the system needs a little work, and yeah they should've made probots on par with a top quality fully grown non-CH pet... but they didn't. And they certainly won't if you guys make unreasonable demands on them. Wanna know why I say unreasonable? Not because I think the DEVs are gods.... that they certainly aren't. What they are, however, is a bunch of software developers working on an extremely complex system. They have a budget, believe it or not, and most of our cash is spent feeding the game data back to us. What remains of their budget goes to paying back Sony, finally, for the original investment I'm sure, and that little slice left over pays for the DEVs. So our developer time is limited. And though the DE DEV is working on other things, th mere fact that the DEVs have acknowledged that we need work means that they have made a promise. and despite all else they do seem to want to keep promises. They promised Player Cities, Mounts, and Vehicles "soon" after launch, and they're trying to live up to that. I would also be amazed if they didn't have a team of DEVs working on the space expansion seperate from the Live Team.
In any Case, cynics, be depressed about a game all you want. I was. Then I got over it and started enjoying myself. It gets old explaining the limiting bugs we have, and explaining that NO you're not SUPPOSED to have more than three modules in an R4 droid, that's an exploitable bug, that I won't exploit, etc.
But yeah. I have Hope. I also have facts. The DEVs HAVE helped other professions out. Only a matter of time that they either help us out, or do the craziest thing, kill all Droid Engineering in a Star Wars universe. At which point I'll just quit. Without droids there is nothing interesting to me in this game anyway, so...
With that, I probobly won't be responding any more to this thread, cause if this doesn't convince or persuade you, nothing short of Developer attention will.

Give the Devs some Slack? You honestly think that once they get done with Cities, then Creature Mounts, then Vehicals, and one that you forgot the SPACE EXPANSION, that they will devote all of thier resources to just us? What will happen is those that they believe are the most critical skills will get attention after they fix all of the bugs that the will create when they finally implement the above four additions to the game.
It has been stated by many people that we will not see any significant changes in Droid Engineering for at least six months. Why you ask because the Developers have deemed Droid Engineering a LOW priority. The few of us that have remained are only staying around on the off chance that we are going to eventually get fixed.
My DE use to be my main toon, but I went and got a new account just so that I could play a class that I can do something in. (smuggler) At least I can go out and fight and make some credits, cause the few Droids that I do make don't pay the bills. Going to have to use my smuggler skills to make some cash to pay those thirsty harvesters that DE needs to get the skill. My partner has an arcitech and he has no problems other then having to buy my materials cause he can't mine the materials fast enough himself. What is the difference you say. His Class works. So until I start seeing some attention to our broken class then I hope the Devs learn our pain.
Maybe Lucas Arts should demand SoE fix the problems with Galaxies or have a different company administer the game. If SoE can't fix something that they created then maybe someone else can fix their mess.

Out of curiosity, how do you know that? As far as I know, no developer has made any comment whatsoever on that issue, saying that it is a bug or isn't a bug, even though the issue has been brought up since Beta. If they aren't saying anything about the issue and aren't changing it, itmay be implied as tacit approval.

I'm quite disgruntled with the way this game has been managed.. but that's the actual problem that I feel everyone is overlooking. The game is graphically beautiful, is more complex than I could possibly code in 5 years, and (while currently imbalanced) allows people to do pretty much whatever the heck they want.
DEVs.. GOOD JOB!!!
SOE Manangers... don't ever breed.. I repeat do NOT breed.
As a quasi-software professional-type person, I know firsthand that it really sucks when you're forced to ship something you're not done with. As far as SWG is concerned, I envision amanager that lives millions of miles away (in another dimension where time mysteriously goes backwards) demanding a 6-month project be done in three weeks because they got drunk with the marketing department and made up a bunch of deadlinesthat were based on the current lunar cycle as it relates to local centipede populations.
Given this heinous information, I live in daily awe that this game works at all.. ever. My deepest condolences to the actual developers and coders for unduly bearing the brunt of our irate backstabbing. My deepest and most sincere profanities to the managers who forced this game into going live a full 8 months before it was completed.
Cheers,
Thank you Stand_Philosopher.
At least there are a few people that understand where the real blame should fall and see the game from a different perspecive than just 'Man DEs blow.'.
What I think is funny, is that every time that the DEVs try to fix something the way that it was meant to be, at release, people start whining about the fix. When the DEVs have problems trying to fix a number issues and someone out of the 300k users finds a new way to Exploit it, people start whining about a fix. When ever a balance change occurs, peole start whining about the fix. I'll tell you what I think is the worst part about SWG. All of the people that are looking for a perfect game, that was released too early, because of the financial backers whining, and then whine about how everything needs to be fixed NOW, completely to their classes benefit.
I for one, can see that the DEVs are really tring to do the best job that they can, given the huge complexity of this game. There are a lot of people that need to get rid of their gloom an doom attitude and actually set down their crafting tools and weapons, and take a look around. The visuals are stunning, the complexity is amazing, and the intergration of a player based society is unreal. The DEVs are doing their part to fix what they can, when they can, but they have someone that they have to answer to, that is not us.
I dont know how to even begin to respond to this post. Let me just say that I have given the Dev's and SOE July, August, Sept and up till Oct 27th all the slack they need. After that I will be playing some other game developers game. And SOE can forget me ever buying another one of there broken software games again. No SWG space expansion (With more broken software not to mention bugs) and no EQ2 or whatever they try to peddle to me again.
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
(Nor will I buy anything that know Koster had a part in developing.)
