Folks,

Yesterday, i left my DE AFK in kaadara with a /shout script running advertising my shop. Got alot of sales out of it, and didnt seem to get any /tell complaints or anything... What are your thoughts on this? Is this a bad or immoral thing to do?

I have a /shout script but I only use it while I'm playing... and I have it active while I'm in cities (crafting, watiting for shuttle, healing and so on)...

Eh, Not really. Its not like you're AFK making droids. You actually made the droids you're just advertising the location.

On a personal note, It might be considered rude to be constantly shouting your wares, though I'd imagine if it was done tastefully (different types of tells, or in character) so as not to detract from others enjoyment of the game (and also not ever 5 seconds) You'd be fine with that.

What I typically do is take my R2 name him KralisDroids and have him patrol town while I sit in the Cantina afk (my afk message has the location of my shop). I can usually get a few sales that way. Of course in truth what ever sells the gizmo's is what you should do if you sell more by standing at the shuttleport harassing players hehe do it !

Heh I use a Binary Load Lifter named EmailDossaForDroids. I actually think it has worked on occasion. most of my sales are in guild, and the rest are from declaring status as a master DE. Also I make sure I'm searchable. Yeah you get DE's asking for training, but I actually like training people. helps keep the APP XP up in case I decide to master something else. With being a searchable master DE, and having an advert bot out selling your wares the only way you can, you can actually get a good business going. You can also begin selling stuff before you even reach master de, if you concentrate on making the right things.

One thing I want is to be able to set up an ad barking routine for a droid and have it patrol an entire city shouting stuff. It would sell itself, literally, to any other artisan out there.

Wow, cool ideas. Best I've done, other than putting a couple items on the bazzaar for auction at 3k, was name my R5 Seekerseller and had him patrol around the star port while I ran missions to make money. Seekers are really the only thing I can sell right now, but I just got a hold of some extrusive ore so I can make more R5s. Problem is, I can't imagine that much demand for level 1 modules.

I do have a 120 second pause in the /shout script. I tried to craft my bark so that it was in character. It is the sort of thing that you might hear in star wars ... minus the coordinates maybe ... but those could be considered GPS eh?

I'm all for advertising, but I really hate people shouting all the time. I'm much more in favor of using a droid or a an item on the bazaar.

I have a BLL that I have patrol around or sit right in front of the starport. Unfortunantly, another DE places his right on top of mine. The good thing is, that's against SOE's policy... bad news is they refuse to do anything.

I use a /yell that I do while im doing survey missions asI go and thats the best way I do business. Vendors were to expensive for me plus I like the being able to do custom jobs. The automated macros dont bother me, and for me wondering through towns giving yell comercials I have made most of my sales and client base from doing this. So sorry if it makes people mad but it works to well for me to stop, plus if it really makes people mad cant they put me on ignore? The only thing I dont do is spam it every five seconds or do it in the middle of a crowded area I try and step off to the side.

I find it annoying when people shout for themselves in a town when AFK...There is a guy on my server who does it all the time, I put him on ignore...And some the sounds of it a lot of people have done the same...

How do you set your AFK message? Can't seem to find the option for this.

This is just my opinion, but I think it is wrong to do anything in the game while AFK, be it /sampling, /dancing, or advertising. It's a game, play it.

I don't see a problem with /yelling or /shouting advertisements for your business, as long as its done tastefully. The people that yell the same thing over and over, every 10 seconds, arevery annoying. Leave at least 2-3 minutes between spams, this would upset less people, and cut down on the chat window scrolling so people can see their /tells or other people /saying stuff.
