Thread: Question about advertising
Part of it is a matter of how you handle it. Everyone is saying a message every 2 minutes isn't too bad. Actually I would find that horribly spamming. I'll often spend and hour or more at the Cantina chatting with friends and that means 30 messages about a service I don't really intend to use, and since few people only spend 2 minutes in an area (and those that do aren't likely to be purchasing anything) you are probably overdoing it pretty badly.
I'd do a shout no more than once every six minutes, probably more like once every 10-15 (if I were to do it). Also, I would change the message. Maybe not the substance but just the wording so it's not the same thing every single time. That will cut down on the irritation factor as well I think.
I agree - advancing your character while not at the keyboard is , imo, bad ... However, i find no other way to let folks know about my shop (especially since i can only play for about 90 minutes later on at night - i miss the big crowds...)
I dont find that this is "technically" advancing my character. I'm working toward master merchant so that I can list my shop on the planetary map ... but one other thing needs to happen - local shops need to be searchable via the bazaar ... then everything will be cool...
A shout every few minutes is fine with most people, but things get ugly with rainbow spam every few seconds. That's a good way to get on my ignore list and to be banned from my shop. I would really rather not deal with people who excessively spam, and I am sure I'm not the only person that feels this way.
The ideas about the droids are good. I have even used that to patrol my neighborhood with a probot and an MSE both named 'ShopAtNuma's'. The MSE does well for such a task, but a DZ70 or a probot certainly gets people's attention.
