Thread: are combat droids really star wars?
Well, I know that alot of DE were shouting 'droideka', which makes this turnabout a little confusing.
But I have more customers than all those put together that almost every time I talk to them invariabley get around to asking when we're going to get droideka or combat droids.
And I for one never broached the subject. They did.
Due to the movies, no matter what Ep. you like to quote, droidekas are popular with the new breed of SW fan - almost as popular as R2 and C3PO.
They want combat droids in the game. Even if they ARE just a rework of CH pets. I'm not trying to justify this route. I'm just telling you what the players I deal with want.
And there are ALOT of combat oriented players around here - the demographic for most video games goes for action - i.e. combat.
So, are combat droids really star wars? In many people's eyes, YES.
Do they fit into the current timeline of this game? I don't think many people CARE.

IG-88 was an illegally produced combat droid, made by Holowan Laboratories. As soon as he was activated, he went crazy and slaughtered all the scientists. He became a bounty hunter, and was seen on the bridge of Vader's Star Destroyer in the Empire Strikes Back.
Hmm, all you brainy SWG trivia buffs make me want to go back and watch the movies again. I'll have to look for this one.
As far as combat droids are concerned, it boils down to this is a combat oriented game like it or not. 90% of the player base has some sort of combat skills and ask me all the time "what can I make better than a probot".
The player base is screaming for combat droids, not the DE's so much (all though I sure wouldn't mind them).
If you have been around since launch you would know the biggest seller of all time was the pre-nerf probot. This was because it was a whole lot more useful to the combat classes than anything else we can make. If we don't get something in line with this again, we just plain are not going to be a great "crafting class". I have more credits than I can spend now, but it has taken 7 months to get there. I don't care about the cash, I just want to be needed in the game. I would just like to see something added that people actually push each other out of the way to be the first in line to have one.

In general i think im just an old time hardcore star wars fan (though im only 21 :smileyvery-happy![]()
most of these instances of droids in the movies are from the Special editions, and honestly they sort of take away a little (though i do love it, i miss my old grainy copy of Star Wars, Empire strikes back, and Return of the Jedi. Sitting on the video shelf at my dad's house a good distance away.)
I can see the arguments for combat droids, but i guess im just in with thecrowd that loved R2-D2 and his capabilities with locks ,and computers.
