Thread: are combat droids really star wars?
Fairweather? A lot and at one time a Majority of DEs wanted a combat droid, you either
A) haven't been a DE very long or
B) have been oblivious to the profession discussions.
Yes I'm being rude, but I **edit** tired of this discussion and the trivialization that "your" side uses on my side. ![]()

I;'ve been a droid engineer for a long time my friend. And yes i am oblivious. Most of the posts on here have gone to the CH level of screaming and kicking like little children. Quite honestly i think that if we get this combat droid stuff put in before we get more utility out of the droids (power management, task handling, slice bonuses, etc.) it takes away from the star wars feel for me in general.
You say majority as if you are omniscent....i noticed many more cries for capabilities before combat. it was all the brand new DE's from hologrinding that cry for combat droids.

Having combat droids in the game, during this time period, is a continuity violation.
---
You mean like cloning, 4 jedi walking around Coronet, spice being sold on the open market, every player and their dog having buffs/ spice usauge/ and a ch pet?
Who cares about continuity violations. I called Vader a dork and he didnt even kill me. Hows that for a continuity violation?
Think Im gonna go solo some dragons and a Rancor lair and think how it effects the storyline...
I really don't see a continuity issue with combat droids. They may not appear in the higher numbered episodes, but that is largely for technical reasons in making the movie, and the fact that they were not essential to the plot. In the timeline, there certainly would have been plenty left around as war surplus, and somebody who could afford one shouldn't have had much trouble finding the parts and someone to assemble them.
In the game, or story, they could have been useful to anyone who wasn't interested in carrying a gun.
I don't think they need to be clones of creature pets, they should have a very different role than that of meat shield. They should be the bodyguard of choice for all artisan based professions and possibly entertainers. A pet doesn't do that well (especially Lv 10 down), because they tend to have low attack capabilities for their HAM rating. As a guard, they never take down what is attacking me.
I would like to see low HAM high attack droids available to non-combat characters. Told to follow and guard they would get something off my back while I had my nose in a harvester. If I decided to go overt, a large enought one would discourage most attacks by oposition individuals who ran across me, unless they were heavy duty killers or suicidal.
A droid should continue to attack when I am incaped, so I have a chance to recover. These are combat droids, not run-away protocol droids, they should be happy to be destroyed doing their job. It always irritates me when my probot runs from an attack.
It would be nice if somedroidswere fast enough to keep up with a landspeeder (perhaps in a non-combat mode from a "run" or "roll"command) so I can get to my harvester with it still with me.
Droids need not survive a lot of combat, permanent damage remaining after repair would be ok and keep up sales. Low HAM would mean it was poor strategy to send them in first, their purpose is to attack in defense of their owner. Even a DZ70 scale HAM would be ok if it had enough attack to promptly dispatch a syck or bocat before it killed me. Since its target would already be in combat, it would not get many hits itself.
The crafting and entertainer community would be a good market. Most crafters have plenty of funds to buy and keep replacing their droids. Droid Engineers would be sought after, and their products in demand.
Those droids would not be very attractive to the combat characters. They really want a tank, and they could better use the skillpoints on combat proficiency for the same net attack values. They will still want CH pets to tank. A droid owner would be moderately useful as a damage dealer in a combat group, but less so than a combat specialist.
Those droids, however, would let us go most places and do most quests that required only moderate combat skills. The world would be open to us for a change, when we wanted to leave our shop. All that content that is now shut out to crafters would be ours to play with without starting a combat alternate.
It could happen! TH implied the droids are ready, but they need a place to put them in the professions. The lack of response due to the pacificst population of the production population is all that is keeping that from happening.
