Thread: Have We Effectively Slit Our Own Throats By Resisting Droid Commander?

Publish 6 is here and apparently combat modules have been intentionally left out and we now get an 8-bit Probot skin that was screwed up dev-side before going to TC...which they are going to go live with anyway.

All that is well and fine, who would have expected anything else? But...

TH has basically told us that there isn't sufficient time to impliment our cries for utility droids (on the level we want, at any rate) anytime soon...and to do so, we'll have to wait until sometime after the Space Expansion comes out before the devs get back to DEs. If that statement is true, then we're screwed. He has also stated that the devs have the artwork, meshes, skill structure and coding ready to go for Droid Commander...and therefore able to get it into the game by Publishes 7 and 8.

By "sticking to our guns" over not wanting the DC profession added, I think we'vewon ourselves a phyrric victory here. The message we're being sent is "Fine, we hear you...no Droid Commander. But don't expect any of these sweeping DE changes you all have suggested anytime soon."

This basically translates to me as the devs telling us "Take what we have offered you or freakin' forget about it."

And the fact that Drashk has been pretty much MIA since he voiced his pro-DC position on the subject about 2 weeks ago doesn't help matters any, either.

Now I understand that the devs sunk the better part of their allotted time to the DE profession focusing on combat droids and combat modules, and in turn SOE expects the fruits of this labor to be used in the game, but by the DE community resisting the will of the "powers-that-be" we won't be getting squat anytime soon.

Uh combat modules were never going to be in publish 6, they were always planned for publish 7, whatever else they add weather it be higherend combat droids or utillity modules will be in publish 8.

Seems about right. I was actually hoping that the DC will come out, then all the whining DE's will quit. Because that's all that this forum is right now, bunch of whining.

I'd take nothing over DH, though my opinion my not count in a month or 3 when I will probably quit. I wanna hold out for the space exp but this is just stupid.

Just curious Hobgrob - how long have you been a DE and what level? Are you a Master DE? Have you played a DE since the game went public? I don't recall any whinning going on by the DEs on the board. What I do recall is many DEs, since beta even, very frustrated with droids not working properly.

When a weaponsmith sells me a gun, he/she doesn't have to say; "...oh by the way. Sometimes the gun won't work. Or you can't do x special move with the gun. Etc...." Can't tell ya how many times I would have to talk people out of certain droids 'cause they don't work the way they want. Or tell 'em, sorry you can't name that particular droid. Or better yet - you need another droid with a repair module, but that won't help you cause you can only have one droid out.

I don't see any of this as whinning. Combat modules/droids are something that is desired. But certainly should not be used by the devs as an excuse to not fix the DE profession.

Ho...

First off, beacuse droids do not need commanders.

Second off, droids don't rip people's arms outta thier sockets when they are angry.

Third off, we want to be able to make something that sells to all players

Fourth off, we want to use what we make.

Fifthoff, we'd be a CH/BE clone if DH was added.

I'm sure other people have more as well.

Droids are for everyone, not just a special class.

Certs...maybe - not that it makes sense, but it prevents "newbies" from running around with ultra-droids. Of course, an ultra-droid would just prevent the newbie from climbing the ranks very fast because it would get all the kills.

A new profession? Why? So we can limit our already tiny market?

We stick to our guns. As a MDE for over three months now, I say fix what is currently broken, unnerf the probot's armour at the very least, and then let's move on into new territory. New territory should include upping the miserable HAMs on these droids! A toaster has a better than a 45 HAM! But, we have a floating less-than-a-toaster with a gun on it.

Kind of off the thread, but just a side vent: It's really sad when as a Master Marksman you can go out and fall CL 23 creatures all day without getting touched or CL 32 with traps and a bit of luck, but unless you are aCHthe best helper you can have is a CL10 pet or droid. A dog is tougher than a CL10 and I don't see people on Earth running around as creature handlers to own a dog.

This is not the game your looking for!

Don't know about you guys, but I've taken the CL10 creature idea to heart. But I'm not one for using the rules as they laid them down. Oooh no. Nowadays I just hire a half dozen newbies to run in front of me and take the hits instead. They do the same damage with their CDEFs and they have the same amount of HAM. It's great sending people to their deaths so that I can save my probot for the more important stuff

They promised us we'd get all kinds of attention for the January publish.

Now, it's February and we're getting a handful of desperately needed fixes and a broken Probot skin (assuming it's published without them fixing it first)... Now, if they're not even able to fix the Probot skin they broke themselves, why would anyone have any faith that their lame Droid Commander idea wouldn't be riddled with bugs and broken droids?

More damage has been done to our community by the developers themselves than all of us put together. That's an irrefutable fact, just take a look at the history of developer posts.

I meant I would prefer getting nothing to haaving to sell my works to some foolish 12 year old "uB3r 1337" DH profession hopper.

So your precious works can sit and collect dust without being used, because the thought of a certain group with special attitudes using themdoesn't suit you?

Yet we, as a class, want to be able to sell droids to everyone? Not tracking (<--- pun intended ... awh comon, it wasn't THAT bad!) here.

But certainly should not be used by the devs as an excuse to not fix the DE profession.

To a point, I agree. But I'm pretty sure the whole thought with the DC profession was to give a viable way to implement Combat Droids. We're getting a complete revamp anyway, and DC couldn't exactly hurt it.

First off, beacuse droids do not need commanders.

There aren't any cloning centers in the films either, but how long after they announced those? No one's whining. No one even seems to consider them as a rip in continutity. That's a pretty weak argument considering all the other stuff going into the game.

Second off, droids don't rip people's arms outta thier sockets when they are angry.

They fly starships and turn people into free-floating hydrogen in space.

They make up armies that conquer worlds.

They malfunction and get weird ideas and, get this, subsititue the computer core of the Death Star to be able to take control of it.

But they don't touch your arms..

Third off, we want to be able to make something that sells to all players

CL10 droids (we're getting those either way, right?) for combat and our new spiffy utility modules. Any additional market shares is good additional market shares. And quite frankly, I trust the dev team to be a lot more familiar with creating things that fight than utility stuff ("oh look, a whole 150 data storage slots! Yay me!").

Fourth off, we want to use what we make.

The majority of the vocal DE ccommunity wanted no part in having DE gaining the use of additional combat droids. By that logic, we wouldn't get any combat droids at all =P

Fifthoff, we'd be a CH/BE clone if DH was added.

So let's scrap vehicles, they're just a lousy mount clone anyway?

Eh?

In my mind, I definitely think the 'no to DC' is a step backwards. I've seen a few good arguments for not putting it in, but there's been a whole lot more (actually, the majority) that have been pretty bad and every bit not-logical. And DC has a lot more pro's than keeping it out, for the time being.

Oh well. At least they listened to the majority. Even though I think the majority is wrong, that's a token victory for the profession as a whole.
