Thread: Have We Effectively Slit Our Own Throats By Resisting Droid Commander?

Zoul,

The reason why so many DEs are resisting the addition of DC is becausefor 8 months, we had been promised the moon, the stars and everything in between for a "new and improved" Droid Engineer profession...then at the last minute, we were then told that all of those new things (combat droids, modules, etc.) are now just going to be handed over to another profession entirely...instead of fixing DE.

This is a slap in the face to all long-time DEs and those new DEs who genuinely like the profession, not the hologrinders (the hologrinder opinion is one of "we could care less", for the most part).

This is like being promised a new car for months, only to have your dad pull you aside the week before he buys it and says, "I've decided to give the car to your sister instead...but you can still wash it once a week and tunethe engine for her, but you can't drive it."

See my point? Instead of revamping the DE profession, as promised by TH, JustG and the devs, we'll simply be relegated to a minor support role slaved to the new DC profession. There are DEs in this game (myself included) who have stuck with the profession from either Beta or Launch...and to have the devs tell us that they've decided to abandon their original vision of DE and turn us into the droid version of Bio-Engineer hasn't gone over well at all.

There are many holo-DEs, noob DEs, and non-DEs who say "What's the big deal? I'll definitely pick up DC when it comes out!", you all see us old-timers as constantly whining about the state of our profession. Well, its not whining, we can assure you...its months of frustration that is becoming dangerously close to open revolt (so to speak). I know of no less than 7 DEs on my server alone that either plan to drop the profession or outright refuse to craft combat droids if DC goes live in Publish 7 and 8.

There is already a major breakdown in supply and demand if this happens...AND... every min/maxer and dabbler will flock to the DC profession, causing the same problem we saw with CH a few months ago. And we all know that this will only cause the devs to turn around and nerf combat droids in the end.

Well, either way Sodan, the end result is the same: TH and the devs are supposedly going back to the drawing board with some of our "alternative" ideas---which from the sound of it---if they do, it will postpone any really good changes from reaching DE for SEVERAL more months.

Bullcrap. We slit our throats by saying we didn't want combat droids in the DE tree which is where they were going: CH+BE=DE.

Its funny how this all makes more sense now. Sinostri always puzzled me with that particular remark.

At this point I would take anything...

/agree, except to the extent that they already told us that 1) there is not enough room in the development cycle to do any more work on DE beyond one month and 2) the utility changes would take longer than a month and 3) the utlity changes will necessarily blow chunks because droids adding bonuses to what players do is somehow bad. (Food, spice, armor, weapons, etc all add bonuses -- but NOOOOO droids cannot. We are the only frigging crafter class that can't do crap.)

Their fault... they didn't start openly discussion this issue until what, a couple weeks ago?

2) the utility changes would take longer than a month

Once again, their fault....a total lack of proactive communication.

3) the utlity changes will necessarily blow chunks because droids adding bonuses to what players do is somehow bad. (Food, spice, armor, weapons, etc all add bonuses -- but NOOOOO droids cannot. We are the only frigging crafter class that can't do crap.)

Artisans make powerups that all the martial classes use. Heck, they even recently had to increase the range of Turrets because people were using +Range powerups to blow them up without even being in range of their fire. A single powerups can give a +33%, +16%, and even one or two other +% bonus to various aspects of weapon use yet they won't allow droids to give a measley5% or 10% bonuses to skills or traits? Once again, their fault....

Have We Effectively Slit Our Own Throats By Resisting Droid Commander?

I would rather the profession die out (with the rest of the game) than see a robo-**edit** class.

there are a multitude of ways to integrate droids inSWG that dont involve a new prof, problem is all those solutions involve some fairly complex situational modifers.

some different ideas on non-cert:

PVP Droids: you buy the certs with fp's

Battlefield rules: you can call out all your droids pvp or otherwise on a battlefield

City Defense Droids: Based on a city size and speciality a city can have some additional droid defenders.

and more....

but all of these solns are very indepth in there makeup so a blanket idea was rolled out "Droid H/C"

which yes balances SP's for critters but doesnt do justice to the SWwe all know. What it boils down to is SOE and the DEVS are not going to give people better droids for free, sp's or some form of spending will be involved. I think its patendly BS. but its there sandbox, so if we want new higher CL combat droids we are going to see a new prof...oh except they just posted something about how that prof would be to hard to make so now there doing util modules that do (???)...oh nevermind.

Are we arquing the samething over again? About DH/DC etc.? We are going to get a post concerning the devs plans, so lets just wait for that (1 day, 1 week, 1 month, whatever). We've spoken, they've heard (supposedly), now we wait...some more. Besides, the original post was based on circumstantial evidence at best.

TH has basically told us that there isn't sufficient time to impliment our cries for utility droids (on the level we want, at any rate) anytime soon...and to do so, we'll have to wait until sometime after the Space Expansion comes out before the devs get back to DEs. If that statement is true, then we're screwed.

TH gave this summer as a timeframe. He made no mention of the space expansion.
Publish 6,7 was never meant to have any major DE changes though perhaps, 7, may
contain some combat modules.

He has also stated that the devs have the artwork, meshes, skill structure and coding ready to go for Droid Commander...and therefore able to get it into the game by Publishes 7 and 8.

My interpretation of TH's comment on this is that, since they've already done the developement on this, they might as well put it in, though it still depends on what they finally decide to do with droids.

This basically translates to me as the devs telling us "Take what we have offered you or freakin' forget about it."

TH's most recent posts convince me otherwise.

And the fact that Drashk has been pretty much MIA since he voiced his pro-DC position on the subject about 2 weeks ago doesn't help matters any, either.

I guess you missed Drashk post that he'll be MIA for a bit to deal with some RL stuff.

Now I understand that the devs sunk the better part of their allotted time to the DE profession focusing on combat droids and combat modules, and in turn SOE expects the fruits of this labor to be used in the game, but by the DE community resisting the will of the "powers-that-be" we won't be getting squat anytime soon.

Since the devs posts in early January, I've stopped waiting. Right now i'm just sitting back, play some other professions and plan to come back to DE when all the dust settles.

pretty much.

but what if you took yourfamily carinto the shop and said "i'm havinga problem with the engine light, and i need an oil change" and they say they'll work on it. 2 days later you get a call "we fixed the rear defrost, gave you a james bond machine gun out the front radiator, and added a compartment in the back seat for running drugs from mexico"

reguardless of how cool those features are on their own. as a law abiding citizen you have no need for either a machine gun or a drug compartment in the car you drive your kids to and from day care. and since you live in arizona, you could give a **edit** about the defrost.

this is our current situation with the devs. they just called us to say that they've got the machine gun speced and have already ripped out the back seat of the car. we tell them they should have talked to us before starting any of this work, and now they're trying to figure out if they can even get the back seat replaced before we come and pick it up.

Yeah, Master Artisans are definitely exploiters. I mean, to craft an item that gives bonuses is I think a bit out of line. Range extensions? Just 'cause the devs didn't think to make A FRIGGING TURRET'S range longer than a range extended rifles, I mean come on people! Quit exploiting with Master Artisan!

Heh.... Master Artisans are just super-mega-eclipto Checkers players, I guess.... Nerf their Checkers skrillaz!
